I don’t know how long it will be up online at Ligoner’s Ministries but they have right now on their website an apologetic mock debate series titled “Silencing the Devil” where R.C. Sproul plays the Devil’s advocate and his mentor John Gertsner respond for the Christian position.

While the links are to the videos, I’ve begun listening through them as MP3.  Each segments are about thirty minutes long.  Here they are:

1.) Can We know the Truth?

2.) Is there a God?

3.) Is the Bible Inspired by God?

4.) Is God or Man is Sovereign?

5.) Interview with R.C. Sproul & John Gerstner

Again, these won’t be online forever! If somehow you visit those links above and it no longer works, you can purchase the DVD HERE through Ligonier ministries.

The method of apologetics employed here is Classical and influence by the Thomistic tradition, as those observing the debate will see in their exchange.  Of course, here at Veritas Domain we are Presuppositional in our apologetics methodology, but I thought it was good to be fair and give a hearing for Classical apologetics’ better advocates and also to learn from it.

Having said that, there were certain points in the debates that I would not have responded the way Dr. Gerstner did, and at times I think I would have headed at a different direction in a debating scenario during the moment of having to think on your feet.

RC Sproul has also interacted with Presuppositionalist Greg Bahnsen available at Covenant Media Foundation as a four CD set HERE

In light of the previous posts on Islam, I think it is appropriate we keep on speaking about Islam, which persecutes Christians worldwide.

In Afghanistan, becoming a Christian is a dangerous thing to do as Said Musa discovered.

God has freed him through International pressure according to International Concerned Christian:

Why do “people” say that Islam is a religion of peace?

5:54 “O ye who believe. Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors. They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily God guideth not a people unjust.”

8:65 “O apostle! Rouse the believers to the fight. If there are twenty amongst you, patient and persevering, they will vanquish two hundred. If a hundred they will vanquish a thousand of the unbelievers, for these are a people without understanding.”

9:5 “… fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war) …”

Islam Teaches to Beat Your Wife

Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and forsake them in beds apart, and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them. Surely God is high, supreme. Sura 4:34

Update: I am inserting the surat in Arabic. The verb to “beat” or to “strike” is underlined.

Forced to be Muslims

When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to [accept] Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them. … If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them. Sahih Muslim, Book 19, Number 4294.

“And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and Faith in Allah; but if they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practise oppression”. 2:193

Qur’an 9:123—O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness.

Qur’an 48:29—Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves.

Qur’an 9:29—Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Sahih al-Bukhari 6924—Allah’s Messenger said, “I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: La ilaha illallah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah), and whoever said La ilaha illahllah, Allah will save his property and his life from me.”

The Heavenly truth that God will give believers eternal rewards should motivate us in doing ministry.

Randy Alcorn put our grumbling in ministry in perspective:

What a motivation this is when we feel our labors are unappreciated by others!  We can be freed frmo the burden of concern about whether others overlook our deeds, because God assures us that he will not overlook them.  When we understand what it means to be promised a reward from God, any prospects of rewards from others–or any bitterness for not being rewarded by them–will shrink in comparison.” (Money, Possessions and Eternity, page 129).

John Frame’s book, “Evangelical Reunion” has been a hard to find book in physical hard copy at one time.

Then he allowed it to be free online through his website, but it was in Html format. Now he has it in PDF form!

In John M. Frame’s large festschrift, “Speaking the Truth in Love,” Frame describes his own book in this way:

“This book is a cry of the heart, protesting the scandal of the brokenness of the body of Christ through denominationalism.  It analyzes what denominionalism is, how it came to be, and how the Bible evaluates it.  Then the book presents an utterly unrealistic vision of how these divisions might be healed” (Speaking the Truth in Love, 8).

Utterly unrealistic vision of how to resolve it?  Perhaps, I’ve yet to read it.  But does Frame has something to say concerning the problem? The book’s now in PDF.

I read this book a few weeks ago, my memory is not as fresh on it as I write the book review as compared to other book reviews here.

This is a good work by Cornelius Van Til.  The work is divided into five chapters with the first one on Christian truths as a system.  The beginning discusses the importance of thinking about Christianity in terms of a system and the need for systematic theology.  From here, Van Til discusses the bearing of systematic theology in the field of Christian apologetics.  It is an important theses of Van Til that what one believes should shape how one defend what one believes, an important point that Presuppositional apologists wishes to make.  The second chapter discusses what a Christian philosophy of life looks like.  The third chapter is a discussion about the point of contact in apologetics with the unbeliever.  Here Van Til makes an important point in that the point of contact between the believers and the nonbelievers can have actual common ground for point of contact but that common ground is not neutral.  Chapter four is on method and chapter five is on the issue of authority, although I felt chapter four dealt with much on the issue of authority before chapter five!  One of the weakness of Van Til is that critics often complain that he talks in generalities when it come to other ways of doing apologetics (his shorthand for non-Presuppositionalists is the “Roman Catholic” and the “Arminian”).  But his description does describe generally how some think about and actually do apologetics.  I recommend this work.  The edition with William Edgar’s comment is not filled with as much lengthy comments and footnotes as Edgar’s edition for Van Til’s “Defense of the Faith.”  This is a plus in the sense that lengthy footnotes can bog down the readers who wishes to hear Van Til for themselves.  The minimal comment is a plus to the Edgar’s edited edition.

What is sad is that this is an argument given by a Congresswoman.

What an appeal to pity…eating Ramen.

For the record, I love eating Ramen.  All my sisters and I love eating Ramen as a kid growing up.

Eating Ramen is temporary in life, but death is forever.

Someone vote this Congresswoman out!

The hard part is not yet over…there’s still the Senate…and then the most anti-pro-life president in American history.

From Life News:

The House of Representatives today voted overwhelmingly to scrap funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business and ensure it can’t receive any federal funds through any departments or programs.

House members approved the Pence amendment on a 240-185 vote with 9 Democrats joining most Republicans to support de-funding the abortion business. Another 7 Republicans sided with most all of the pro-abortion Democrats in the lower chamber in voting for the pro-abortion organization to receive taxpayer funds.Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana was the main sponsor of the amendment, which prevents federal funding of Planned Parenthood’s national organization and 102 named affiliates.

“This afternoon’s vote is a victory for taxpayers and a victory for life. By banning federal funding to Planned Parenthood, Congress has taken a stand for millions of Americans who believe their tax dollars should not be used to subsidize the largest abortion provider in America,” he said after the vote. “I commend my colleagues in both parties for taking a stand for taxpayers and a stand for life. I encourage my colleagues in the Senate to support this legislation and end federal funding of Planned Parenthood once and for all.”

The Pence Amendment does not affect the funding level for any federal program.  Instead, it disqualifies PPFA and its named affiliates from receiving any type of federal funds. Though some Democrats claimed the amendment is unconstitutional, in a 2010 ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit rejected a claim that a similar law, cutting off federal funds for the organization ACORN and its affiliates, violated the Constitution’s Bill of Attainder Clause

The fight to stop Planned Parenthood funding is not over as the amendment is part of a continuing resolution bill needed to fund the federal government and the funding apparatus still faces Senate action and likely conference committee action — which could ultimately leave the amendment out of the final draft of the bill that goes to pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

I need to go celebrate and eat Ramen

How could these people be Muslims? They cannot be from the religion of peace! Muslims are peaceful people or maybe not …..

The American media would like people to believe that Islam is a peaceful religion. But the Quran states otherwise ,

  • “And slay them (the infidels) wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out, for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter” 2:191
  • “And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and Faith in Allah; but if they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practise oppression”. 2:193
  • “Fighting is prescribed for you, and you dislike it. But it is possible that you dislike a thing which is good for you, and that you love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knows, and you know not” 2:216
  • “Seize them and slay them wherever you find them: and in any case take no friends or helpers from their ranks.” 4:89

The Ahmadiyya sect is banned in Indonesia. Even though the Ahmadiyya sect considers themselves Muslim but the Sunni sect in Indonesia do not regard them as fellow Muslims. Instead, they regard them as infidels simply because the Ahmadiyya sect believes in a prophet after Muhammad (without rejecting Muhammad). Therefore, they apply the verses above in the Quran to kill them. What do you think they would do to Christians in Indonesia?
