I watched the 180 movie yesterday. I liked it a lot. Did you watch it yet?
Yes, we watched it, and it was very good…Southern california is such a scene for witnessing using Way of the Master, Presuppositional apologetics, and raise the cry for justice for the unborn…I’m sure Northern california is too!

Sleazy ________. A documentary full of stupid amateur “psychology”, wrapped up in a pool of non-sequitur argumentation. Instead of addressing the content of the documentary in a meaningful way, you resort to swearing and self-refuting comments. I think this was a good movie, however, it leaves unanswered the question of what Christians like Ray believe should be the punishment for abortion. Equating abortion to murder and another holocaust. Ok. If you were king or queen for a day, do you imprison women who have abortions? Execute them as murderers? Execute doctors, or put them in prison for life? If it’s the moral equivalent to the Holocaust — that should be the logical progression in your thinking. Language like that used in this film might be useful to turn an opinion about abortion or Christ, and that’s good. But not asking or answering this question regarding the punishment for abortion leaves the film unfinished.

I think that given that Ray Comfort’s intention is to end abortion first…to demand Ray have a whole political philosophy work out of what to do after abortion is illegal is like demanding the abolitionists before the civil war to have a fully orbed agenda laid out of what we ought to do with slave owners, or for anti-holocaust Christians to have a full plan of what to do with Nazis…the goal is to free the slaves, stop the killing of Jews and end the abortion first.
Wow, He managed to change the minds of some of the most ignorant people I’ve seen. You can fill a mind with anything if it’s empty to begin with.
I really hope that anyone who sees this video takes the time to educate themselves to make informed, well-formed opinions of their own (conclusion drawn is inconsequential as long as they form it themselves). This was ridiculous and I don’t know anyone who I associate with who would even get close to being swayed by this.
It makes me sad that the people in that video exist. It breaks my heart that they are in the majority. Maybe education should be the main goal here… If classes aren’t even teaching people what happened in World War 2 we are failing our young ones in big way.
Also, the use of alternative youth as a symbol for the ignorant sinner is disgusting, unimaginative and uninspired.
The scope of this film and the arguments provided are so narrow. Only those easily lead would follow based on only this. Nearly every argument is invalid in a pure logical sense. The subtitles should read: Association Fallacy, Incomplete comparison,Fallacy of Contextomy, Thought-terminating cliche, argument by analogy, Reductio ad Hitlerum, Apeal to emotion, and the coop de grace, a Judgemental Language Redd Herring.
Good job, Ray Comfort, at managing to only use logical fallacies to sway so many people.
Fallacies do happen. Rather than assert it, can you demonstrate (1) a quote from Comfort, (2) what minute and second into the film this quote is lifted from, (3) and what fallacy you believed is being committed, and (4) why you see it is fallacious?
Truth is mostly simple. Logical fallacies and faulty assertions are often hidden amidst complicated and voluminous “reasoning.” It is an easy place to hide them, even from ourselves, just as it is easy to be unseen in a blizzard. Moreover, our minds will seldom reason beyond what our hearts accept first.
Too often, the role of our minds is to satisfy the prejudices of our hearts. If we do not already know our hearts, we will someday, for we will each stand before God sooner or later, and we will see whatever rationalizations we have had for what they are worth…nothing much if they are about inconsequential subjects…and nothing but trouble if they about serious subjects,
Rationalization is the product of emotion, not logic, and, I submit, pride is the most pernicious of emotions and is rooted in faulty character development. A proud person can only reason well about things neutral to his or her ego. When a proud person’s position is held tightly, however wrongly, there is seldom a loosening of the grip. In fact, often there is a tightening. Humility allows one to admit one was wrong. It allows for correction. Humility, therefore, is the key to honesty and, by extension, solid and truthful reasoning. A proud person has got to be correct from the get-go about a position, and who knows as much in the beginning as at the end of one’s life? Proud people, therefore, die as fools if they never learn humility. Their destiny is eternal humiliation if they do not arrive at humility before they die.

Response: While abortion was illegal for most Aryans in Hitler’s Germany, Hitler was by no means “pro-life” as Prolifers are today since he supported forced abortions on those who were less than pure by his standard of “evolutionary” progress. The same is the case with contraceptives: he was against people who were white, blond hair and blue eyes having contraceptives, but then others he would sterilized. Concerning this as a historical fact, I would advise you to consult Dr. Richard Weikart’s “Hitler’s Ethic” or any of his work for the matter by this author, who’s PhD dissertation went through many German primary sources on the same manner.

Response: Rather than simply assert this, (1) provide the quote Comfort gave, (2) what minute and second into the film this quote was given, (3) and what fiction book it came from (title, page numbers, etc)? l woud let those close to Ray know about there error for the future.

The only legal abortion in Nazi Germany was an exception created in 1935 that allowed for purposes of racial hygiene and that was only if the woman provided her consent. The only medical procedure forced upon people were sterilizations against those who were deemed by the courts to be in violation of the eugenics laws.
As Comfort stated, people shouldn’t vote for politicians who “advocate murder in the womb”. Hitler didn’t advocate that (actually I don’t know of any politicians who do), so Hitler would be an acceptable candidate, especially since he’s so pro-life.
The quote from the book of fiction appears at 23:29. The quote and the title of the book is given. It’s a novel with 10 novelettes and is classified as fiction.
Ray clearly mentions that he believes a medical procedure is a holocaust in America, right after he did an entire video comparing abortion with the Jewish Holocaust. Abortion is a legal medical procedure that is often done to the benefit of the woman’s health and is also a life saving procedure, the Jewish Holocaust isn’t. Why is the false comparison made? I can’t imagine groups like the Anti-Defamation League being very happy with Ray’s mockery of the Holocaust.
I don’t know if you’ve actually watched the video. Ray says rape and bank robbery can be fun at around 24 minutes into the video. I really suggest you watch the video next time.

Response: And all this you said…somehow demonstrate that Hitler as the dictator of the Nazis was pro-life when they allowed abortion in 1935? Historical question for the historian Doug: Did Hitler’s government had any forced abortion in the Concentration Camps?.

Response: Hitler was not pro-life. There is your own self-admission in statement seven, that the Nazis, HItler’s own party and government, legalized abortion in 1935. Hitler is not an acceptable candidate by Comfort’s standard my friend, your argument does not follow. That is the case with just what you have provided here, and without further consideration of the historical data..and on that note, this leads to some historical question for our friend Doug who know history so well to tell others to recheck it: Can you describe and document what was the activities of the Nazis (whom Hitler led) when it comes to the issue of abortion in the Concentration Camps (please don’t quote me Neo-Nazis revisionary history please!)? Do the same for the following: What was the legal status of abortion in Nazi conquered territories where non-Aryans reside? While Hitler was not in favor of abortion for those who are “healthy” by his standard, what was his view of infantcide of the “weak”? I ask, because any pro-life voters would be repulsed by a candidates who has a positive view of infanticide of any child.

Response: Riddle me this, what page is the quote from? If you look up the table of content of the book, what “chapter” does that page fall under? Can you identify the literary form/genre of that section of the book? Moreover, who wrote that section, and tell me about him and what he is famous for.

Response: Where did Ray Comfort “CLEARLY MENTIONS” that he believes a “MEDICAL PROCEDURE IS A HOLOCAUST”? I think you are having a hard time correctly extrapolating what he is saying if you think he is ONLY saying a medical procedure is a holocaust.

Response: Document to methat abortion is “OFTEN DONE to the benefit of the woman’s health.”

Response: Every comparison has it’s continuity and discontinuity; Here’s an exercise for you to TRY to represent the other side fairly rather than a simple straw man: Tell me what similarities is Comfort trying to draw with abortion and the Holocaust in his own words. Since you seem to be challenged in representing the other side fairly, you should give full quotes plus minutes and seconds where it’s found. That exercise might make you think more clearly about an opponent’s position, I know it helps if you put your effort into it.

Response: Cite to me quotes and minutes and seconds where Ray mocks the Holocaust.

Response: Your original statement 5, ““Given the fact that Ray stated that rape is fun” is not at the entire 24:00-24:59 minutes mark. I think you refer to the interaction in 26:00 and following. As I said earlier, we must read/hear this in it’s fuller context and it does no good for you or your cause to engage in straw man fallacies. In that immediate context, the Neo-Nazi says, “I like fornicating, it’s fun…” Obviously, the guy’s ethical theory assumes that a hedonistic ethics where fun= what is right, something a Christian disagree with. So Ray Comfort offers a logical self-defeater to that ethical philosophy by saying these EXACT WORDS in 26:02: “Well, YOU can like raping and bank robbery can be fun, BUT it’s NOT RIGHT.” You originally alluded in statement five that Ray Comfort is immoral due to his view on raping. But Ray Comfort explicitly states that this is not right. He did not even say that he himself think it is fun, but that even if “YOU,” where the referent is the Neo-Nazi, happen to think it is fun, it is still not right. You can go ahead and assert twice that I did not watch the video, but that’s better off than implying that you watched the video only to not really have listened carefully and understand it.
7) Pregnant women in the concentration camps were put in the execution line. Pregnant women who were visibly pregnant obviously, weren’t suitable candidates for the work crews as their pregnancy would have hindered their efficiency, so they were thrown in the lines with the sick, elderly and children. So there weren’t forced abortions, the Nazis wouldn’t have wasted the time or the resources.
8) Abortion wasn’t legalized as a whole since abortion was outlawed because the Nazis wanted to produce a larger population. The law was changed to allow undesirables the option to abort since it was the belief that conditions like alcoholism, mental retardation, etc. was genetic. So rather than wait for the child to reach reproductive age where they’ll have to be sterilized they allowed the woman to abort (after which she’d be sterilized to prevent further occurrences or breeding). Previously mentally retarded children were simply executed (letters were sent to the parents about the child dying from an accident or disease but families found out when they compared the form letters). The Catholic church heard that Catholic children were being executed so the Nazis stopped the practice. However, it was still illegal to get an abortion not approved of by the state.
9) You should be asking Ray that, he provided the source but didn’t provide the page. Not that it’s relevant. Quoting something Hitler says from a Captain America comic doesn’t make it a quote simply because someone doesn’t know what page it’s on.
10) Abortion is a medical procedure and Ray clearly used the Holocaust as an analogy. I already explained that before and I shouldn’t have to waste my time repeating myself.

12+) If you’ve failed to grasp the concept that Ray was making an analogy (and a bad one at that) about the Holocaust and abortion I don’t know what to say. Anyways, the ADL did condemn his mockery of the Holocaust. For someone claiming to be a Jew he doesn’t heed the teachings of the Torah very well considering what the Torah and the Talmud say about abortion.
Anyway, that’s for your response. I am writing an article on the video and appreciated your feedback.

Dough and Slimjim, I hope both of you guys (pro-life or pro-choice) will both agree that murdering an innocent human being is wrong. I think the main difference between both your views is your view on personhood and how you both will answer the question: “When are we human?” Whether Hitler is pro-life or pro-choice is not the main question to ask in solving whether the pro-life argument is valid or not. The abortion debate goes further than asking what is a life? Just pointing out that the embryo is a life does not prove abortion is evil. Many people have pointed out that living cells are also living. And nobody will say that it is evil to scratch our arm because in the process of scratching, we are killing life (bacteria or individual cells). However, the Abortion debate is asking “when are we human” and “are all humans’ persons”. The whole abortion discussion hinges on these questions. Because if we are not human yet, why make a big deal about abortion. Abortion will be nothing more than a medical procedure and morally equivalent to a scratch on our arms. But if we are human at conception then it will be wrong; it is taking the life of an innocent human being. It will be wrong just as it is morally wrong for me to kill an innocent young adult. It will be wrong just as it is morally wrong for a mother to kill her two year old child because she no longer can financially support the child or for any other reason. I admit if we are to start with the belief that we are human at conception, the conclusion is harsh (abortion is killing another human being). And I think that’s why many people do not accept that starting point that we are human at conception, because it leads to a conclusion we do not want to accept. So all of this goes back to the main question, “When are we human? What do you think? “When are we human and why?
When are we human?
It true that society should not take away a person’s right to choose without good reasons. Ideas such as this protect the public from tyranny. Perhaps it is out of the fear of discrimination and violations of rights that society does not want to outlaw abortion. However, are there ever good reasons to limit someone’s rights to choose? What would you consider to be a good enough reason? The embryo’s right to life, is that good enough? Perhaps, before asking that question, one must first ask, “Does the embryo have rights?”
The embryo has rights because it is a human being. Some oppose this statement by calling the embryo an organism, a ball of cells, and a potential human. Planned Parenthood’s definition of an embryo is “an organism that shares the woman’s blood supply” and a zygote is “the single-celled organism that results from the joining of the egg and sperm”. True, an embryo is made up of cells but so are toddlers, adults, and the elderly. In fact, all humans are organisms, “a form of life”, made up of cells (dictionary.com). If being human means not being made of cells, then no one can claim to be human with unalienable rights. By pointing out the basic biological structure of life does not prove that the embryo is not a human being. What intrinsic identity of humanness does the embryo lack? What makes the embryo fundamentally different from humans? Some will say experience, consciousness, size, development, environment, and dependency. If so, what stage of life does one acquire these attributes? At conception, implantation, first trimester, second trimester, third trimester, birth, adolescent, adulthood? When can one be called human? A teenager has more consciousness and experience than a toddler. So is the adolescent more human than a toddler? Of course not, both are human. At adulthood one is more developed, independent, and bigger than all other stages in life. Then is one not human until adulthood? If what make one human are arbitrary constantly changing traits such as consciousness, experience, and development then one can never know for certain if one is fully human or even human at all. However, when we look to the biological facts one can conclude that at conception a human being is created. When the egg is fertilized by the sperm a zygote, “the tiny new cell, smaller than a grain of salt, contains all the genetic information for every detail of the newly created life- the color of the hair and eyes, the intricate fine lines of the fingerprint, the physical appearance, the gender, the height and the skin tone” (The first nine months, Focus on the Family). The zygote, the stage before embryo, has all the DNA and genes needed to be biologically human. If this is the stage before embryo, the embryo must also be nothing less than human!
Right to life vs. Right to Choose?
Since, the embryo is a human being than his or her “right to life” cannot be violated by another “right to choose”. Countless unwanted embryos die in the process of abortion. Some die through the abortion method of suction, others through Dilation and Crettage, while others through prostaglandin or hysterotomy. By killing or letting the embryo die through these means are immoral. People who are concern about a couple’s right to choose should be equally concern about the embryo’s right to life. A disregard for the right to life is a disregard for all other rights. When the embryo’s life is taken, all his or her rights die along with him or her. For example, killing a new life will mean the life will never get the chance to be an adult, to fall in love, to start a family, to have children, and to choose. If all human beings have a prima facie moral right to choose, then the embryos also have this right. This right cannot be theirs unless they are given the chance to grow, to live, to love and be loved. Abortion not only limit the “unwanted” embryo’s right to choose but makes it non-existent.
There is a seemingly clash of rights- the right of the couple to choose versus the embryo’s right to life. However, this is a false dilemma. Couple can still choose when they want to have children without disrespecting the embryo’s rights. Example: Abstinence or contraceptives. The debate whether abstinence works or contraceptive is ethical is another debate.)
Are all humans persons?
All humans are persons. A being is human if he or she has human DNA and human parents. Denying a human personhood is an injustice. The Nazis justified the Holocaust by claiming a Jew is inferior to the Aryan race and less of a person. Another example is the American slave trade. In the past African Americans were oppressed, enslaved, and legally only three- fifth of a person; the state denied them the status of full persons. It was not until 1868, the passing of the fourteenth amendment, when former slaves were legally recognized as a full person. Today, society must not make the same mistake as the Nazis and their fore fathers made. Society must not deny any human personhood; rather, society should include all humans under the category of persons. Every human should be protected under the Constitution. The fourteenth amendment states: state should not “deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Every human being whether healthy, mentally sharp or disabled must be protected and not be deprived of life. Also, if it is morally unacceptable for a physician to do harm (under the Hippocratic oath)on a healthy person then it is also equally immoral to harm a disabled or unwanted person.
Is there ever a good reason to limit someone’s right to choose? Yes, if that choice will kill an innocent human being. If that is not a good reason, then what is?
Not terribly impressed with this video. If you want to watch a film that treats the abortion issue in a complex, even-handed manner, watch “Lake of Fire”. It makes 180 look like a commercial.

I thought the movie revealed some disturbing trends & it was thought provoking, which is laudable for a film. I got a lot out of it. But I cannot equate abortion with what the Naziis did. Even if there is an analogy, (and it’s debatable) analogies are not the moral equivalent. Despite the good parts of the film (reminding us about history’s lessons and forcing us to confront some ugly truths about abortion & our convenient choices) I was turned off towards the end.
Ray Comfort essentially condemns all non-Christians to hell, even if they’re living a good life because they don’t believe in Jesus Christ. If I were with my Jewish friends watching this, 3/4 of the way into the film, they’d have been offended and then the whole goal of the film would be defeated.
If I were Ray, I’d have stopped after making the analogy between the 2 Holocausts. Decide what your goal is Ray; is it to get people to think more pro-life? OR is it to argue about their religious beliefs?
IF you try to do both in one film, neither will be achieved.
Also, with rape victims and abortion, Ray asks why the innocent child should pay the price for the crime of the father. Fair enough. But then Ray ignores the fact that making the woman have the child of her rapist is making HER pay the price for the crimes of another. Giving birth is not risk free, and giving up a year of your life (pregnancy and post partum issues) is a big deal and it’s a price only the woman pays in rape cases.
Finally, I don’t think all abortions are alike. Some pregnancies can be ended BEFORE implantation occurs, and that is just not the same as gassing Jewish families.
I still think the movie is worth watching. But if I were Ray, I’d put the “Christians Only” message elsewhere. It totally detracts from an otherwise provocative presentation.

I hope my comments would not unnecessarily offend you as you have given me good fuel for thought and I hope perhaps my comment might make you consider a bit of where Ray might be coming from.

Response: Ray Comfort believes that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and therefore there is none good or righteous. I see that there are differences of standard of right and wrong going on here if you disagree, so it’s best to ask what do you believe is the standard of right and wrong based upon Jen?

Response: Can you articulate why they would have been offended? Just curious…because Ray Comfort himself is Jewish. I’m assuming it’s the reference to Jesus or is there something else I’m not seeing?

Response: I don’t necessarily think it’s that mutually exclusive; I think if someone becomes a born again Christian with the Spirit living within them, and working in their lives to live by biblical principles, it would make them less likely to be involve with abortion.

Response: Let me begin by saying that what the rape victim goes through is a horrible tragedy; it’s wrong what any victim has to go through when raped; and it’s sad. However, that wrong has already happened to the rape victim and I don’t think it’s sound ethical principles to bring about more wrongs as a solution, since two wrongs does not make a right. In the instance of the woman, she’s already have been wronged, let’s not make another wrong by murder of the unborn.

Probably not the same method in both those elimination, I see the discontinuity there; but it would seem to me that Comfort’s point was that both involve an elimination of certain classes of people on the basis of arbitrary factors such as location, development, etc.

Great great film. Hope more people see it and makes them think. In my opinion if God joins ittogether and allows it to grow them its alive human being right there. Right at the moment of conception. Otherwise there would be no conception. God Bless all…..
