I have been unable to sleep the last two night.
Tonight I have two verses that is going to be my “tablet sleeping pill.” Nothing special, perhaps it might be situational to my immediate context but I wonder if it might help others still.
The two verses:
“Though He scoffs at the scoffers,
Yet He gives grace to the afflicted.” (Proverbs 3:34)
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [h]without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)
And an extra-strength verse:
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but [a]leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. (Romans 12:19)
I imagine pastors who struggle with inability to sleep might face the common problem of scoffers, wondering about what is wise for a decision and dealing with wrongs against them.
All three verses is God centered and calls us to have trust in Him. We must trust Him that He gives grace to the afflicted and those who humble themselves before Him (Proverbs 3:34). We must seek God for Wisdom for He is wise (James 1:5). We must trust in the Lord for justice for He is a God of wrath (Romans 12:19).
If we trust in hope of who God is as He is revealed in these three verses our faith will reveal itself with our actions. If we trust that He gives grace to the afflicted we would relish Him which in turn changes our disposition. If we trust in Him for Wisdom we will ask Him for it and thus we would pray! Finally if we trust that He is a God of wrath of justice, we would not play God and take actions in our own hand.
Three sleeping pills. Consult with God and apply as directed.
