In a Washington Post opinion piece yesterday (July 29th) Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards gave a defense of her organization after being exposed for selling aborted babies body parts. I hope to respond to the whole article in another post later today but for now I want to look at one of her claims about her organization.
Each year, 2.7 million people come to our health centers for high-quality, nonjudgmental, compassionate care.”
I want to note she mentioned “compassion” or “compassionate” three different times in her short opinion piece:
” I immediately apologized for the tone that was used, which did not reflect the compassion that people have come to know and expect from Planned Parenthood.”
The women who come to Planned Parenthood don’t do so to make a political statement; they come to get high-quality, affordable and compassionate care.
One can see that her carefully crafted words to the public is intentional in trying to portray Planned Parenthood as compassionate.
However for an organization that performs abortion it is nothing short of double talk to say they provide “compassionate care.” How can the murder of the unborn which is part of a package of services that Planned Parenthood has as their business be called “compassionate” is beyond me. I find it morally repulsive that Planned Parenthood can participate in murdering the most helpless among us and turn around to describe themselves as “nonjudgmental” as if that is a virtue.
If a picture is worth a thousand words I think this is appropriate:
