I saw this excerpt clip from a larger sermon by Paul Washer about a month ago and for some reason I’ve been thinking about this.
I hope you watch it, it’s short enough (6 minutes).
It made me think a lot about the incredible need for good biblical resources for pastors and church leaders overseas in the missions field. There is a serious need for resources, serious need for translations and serious need for materials being affordable. There is also the need for more teachers who are capable to go overseas and not just stay in cozy seminary settings in the West waiting for the rest of the world to come to us for theological education.
It has made me pray more for God to equip God’s people overseas. I think Paul Washer’s ministry is a wonderful ministry to support.
This is POWERFUL! Will check out his website. Thanks for sharing this.

My pleasure Brother!
That really hits on a theme I’ve had for some time. As pastors, our focus is to be on the church, feeding the church and leading the church in worship. Far too many fix their eyes on evangelism thinking the sole purpose of the church is to reach the lost. They forget, the LORD rescued Israel out of Egypt so that they could worship Him, not reach the lost. Reaching the lost is a by-product of our faithfulness, not the goal of our faithfulness.
I agree with you….. so true… the body of CHRIST …. has to take care of herself in order to help others…. just like a mom…. won’t be any good for her family if she doesn’t take good care of her own needs.
I loved this. I am so blessed to be a part of a church that has a heart for missions. Our church recently built a church in Tanzania. We bought a couple of huge food trucks to help a minister after the devastation to the Philippines from the hurricanes a couple of years ago. We support orphanages in Peru… Bought a new van for a minister in Brazil, support a missionary in China…the list could go on and on.
As for the minister in the video clip, it is obvious that he is sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. That is what I call a divine encounter.
It’s encouraging to hear of churches actively involved and give sacrificially for the cause of Christ in Missions! Our church also give a significant percentage of our giving towards the work of missions. We must be obedient to the Great Commission both locally and around the world.
I believe that is one reason why my church is prospering so much. I’m all for the prosperity message when the focus is on Kingdom growth. I’m a prime example. Every year my wife and I give more and more but my pay check stays about the same. The best way to explain it is that our stuff just does not seem to wear out. In 28 years we are still on our same refrigerator, we just purchased our 2nd washer and dryer. My 9 year old truck has never been in the shop except for oil changes. My house is 21 years old and I’m still on my same AC unit. I could go on and on. I’m not bragging on me but on God. I live by Malachi 3:10-11. Now’s the part where you call me Looney, but the focus has to be on God and Kingdom growth, not on personal prosperity.
Amen Patrick! A lot of what you said reminds me of a book by Randy Alcorn called “Money, Possession and Eternity.” Have you heard of the author before? That book revolutionized the way I viewed money and I think its biblical. He’s mentioned something similar that sometimes the blessing from God isn’t necessarily “new” things but other ways such as things being sustained long after its normal duration. I see God has been gracious to me too in that regards as our young family give sacrifically to the local church and missions. We’ve learned first hand the truth that God’s Word is true: God is faithful.
I never heard of him, but I will look him up.
I first learned about tithing and giving from Kenneth Copeland. He gets a bad rap for being a prosperity preacher, but what he teaches is what I wrote about. Most of the criticism levied against him is due to his preaching that words have power and we have what we say.
I used to have a poverty mentality and spoke about how poor I was. One day I got the revelation that life and death are in the power of the tongue. “Well,” I thought. “What if I try start speaking God’s provision instead of my lack.” Suddenly, my whole life changed. I’m not perfect, but I realized that I had been speaking doubt instead of faith in more areas than just tithing and offerings. I learned from Kenneth Copeland to begin speaking God’s Word over my life instead of speaking my circumstances. I think you and I have shared enough that you now realize I’m not a total flake. There is such truth in carefully monitoring the junk that comes out of our mouths.
Just throwing this out there, but if you ever want to have a deeper back and forth conversation not tied to any one subject, email me at _@_.com.
I do have concern for Kenneth Copeland’s theology. I hope you know me enough by now that I’m not saying this to merely be divisive. Thanks for sharing your email and the invitation for future discussions! By the way I’ve edited your given email since a lot of trolls, spammers and weirdos in the past have emailed people who left email on our blog. Hope you know it’s not that I’m against you giving the email, and I’ve got it down!
I appreciate you removing my email. I was concerned about the trolls.
As for your issues with Kenneth Copeland, I too have some reservations with some of his theology. But, I tend to look at it this way. Even though I have huge respect for your teachings, we don’t always agree. However, I would be a fool to throw out everything you teach just because we disagree on certain areas.
I apply the same logic with Kenneth Copeland. I have learned much from him just as I have learned much from you. I just filter both of your teachings through the Word. If I don’t agree, I just push the portion I disagree with to the side and feast on the rest. It’s like eating fried chicken with mashed potatoes and squash. I totally disagree with squash and will quickly shove it aside. However, I plan on chowing down on the chicken and taters.
