Two weeks ago I wrote a post on gay “pastor” Jordan Brown Alleged Homosexual Discrimination Cake Turns out to be Fraud.
I found his Twitter and tweeted that post to him, calling him to repent.
I also found his twitter has multiple times this picture:
I think what he has to say in the picture is rather cliche and superficial.
- It’s a rather popular thing for people to pit Jesus against religion. People from all kinds of spectrum say that, ranging from Evangelical Conservative Christians to cults that subscribe to legalism and those who are against biblical Christianity and claims to be “Spiritual but not religious.” When many people with disagreeing worldviews agree with a slogan, it’s time we clarify what we mean. Especially with the word “religion.” And for that manner, who do we think Jesus is.
- For starters, I’m cautious when people categorically reject the use of the word “religion” in any positive light and claims to still follow the Bible. In the case of Jordan Brown one of his past tweets he claims homosexual agenda advocate Matthew Vines is powerful in exegesis (I would disagree). This at least shows Brown giving lip service to the Bible’s authority. His own “church” website also affirm the Bible. So when we turn to the Bible do we find the use of the word “religion” in a positive light? Note the words in James 1:27, “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” Jordan Brown is against “religious doctrines,” but does the Bible also speak about anything “religious” favorably? James 1:26 states “If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.” King of ironic that one who claims to be Bible affirming would reject that term that the Bible uses favorably.
- Definitions is important. If by religion we mean the things of God, obviously, Jesus is not against “religion.” I think that is the sense of how James in the Bible uses the Greek term that is translated “religion.” The issue then is between true versus false religion and is therefore not a problem with religion per se.
- There’s a sense in which it is right that Jesus is against “religion.” But Christians must clarify what they mean and what they don’t mean. We can’t build a false common ground with someone based upon vagueness or worst, an intentional deception. If by religion we mean a system of one’s own effort of works righteousness, then yes, Jesus was against “that religion.” That’s because Jesus presented His own works of righteousness to save us from our sins when He died as a substitution for sinners whom He save on the Cross. In a sense Jesus is our own “religion!”
- What does Jordan Brown mean by religion and “religious doctrines” that he has thrown out the window? Unfortunately he doesn’t tell us. But it is telling by what he has thrown out of the window. Homosexuality is a sin? Thrown out of the window. This is a biblical teaching. Granted he might think that this sin is not prohibited in Scripture even though one has to twist the Scripture to come to that conclusion. He might be sincerely misled by those he follow such as Jerry Vines. I can’t read his heart. But it’s enough to realize that the religious doctrines Jordan Brown has thrown out of the window definitely include Biblical doctrines. That’s foolish.
- We also should ask the question of which Jesus Jordan Brown had in mind that is against the biblical teaching that homosexuality is a sin. Is it a Biblical Jesus who affirms God’s Laws or another Jesus which is really no Jesus at all? For our posts on the biblical view of homosexuality see our Index to Veritas Domain’s Marathon Series on the Christian Response to Homosexuality.
- When you really think about it Jordan Brown’s quote about throwing out “religious doctrines” out of the window isn’t really profound at all. I’m blushing for him just seeing Brown posting this more than once in his twitter.
- Considering the lack of clarity in this picture quoting himself, the unbiblical position he’s taken on sin and his evil stunt against Whole Foods I think we must say that Jordan Brown has thrown his mind out of the window. Jordan Brown if you are reading this, please see your sins in the way the Bible describes it and seriously repent of your sins and turn to Jesus Christ.
Yep. He just made a god in his own image.
You said it brother!
Reblogged this on Talmidimblogging.
Thanks for reblogging this post!
You’re very welcome Brother!
People who choose to ignore God’s teaching and call it religion have chosen to delude themselves and God will allow them to wallow in their delusion. It’s sad that there are so many like this man who harden their hearts and close their minds to the truth.
Indeed it is sad to see people being hardened also their minds being given over.
SLIMJIM, I agree with everything you wrote. That said, I must point out that the apostle Paul was not afraid to sneer at religion in order to make his point about Jesus. To the Galatians he contrasts the Jewish religion which he once followed with Christianity, and in Athens he observed that his listeners were very religious. J.
Definitely I think that’s Biblical.
The guy trying to scam whole foods was an actual pastor of a churchnwith. Web site? May his congregation see the trurh and find a real church. May this faux pastor find Christ!
