Last week I wrote a post titled “How does the biblical doctrines of Christology help us have a more godly marriage?” Of course studying Christ will impact all areas of the Christian life and not just marriage. It has never ceased to amaze me how meditating and studying Christ have produced godliness in the lives of believers. This is the case because the person and works of Christ become powerful motivations for the Christian fighting against sin.
Concerning my previous mentioned post, I realize sometimes people find some of my posts are too long to read at the moment. So here’s a a witty ditty for your theology. Or more precisely, here’s a witty ditty for your memory that hopefully remind you why meditating on Christ helps you fight against sin. Are you ready for it? Here it is:
As we adore Him, we abhor sin.
Study the attributes of Christ. Study the works of Christ. Dig deeply from the Scripture for the truth of Christ’s Divinity and Humanity and draw out the implications from these doctrine to bear upon your life. But as you do all that, don’t forget the simple purpose is that you are to adore Him. As a result of the Spirit’s work, as we adore Him in worship, you’ll find sin and temptation losing their grip. Adore Him makes you abhor sin! Move over, O Idols of our hearts! One more glorious than you is here: Christ Jesus our Savior and Lord!
Psalm 119:11
Amen
Amen the Word is important!
Great post!
Thank you sir! I appreciate you reading this!
Reblogged this on Talmidimblogging.
Thank you Vincent for the reblog!
You’re very welcome Pastor Jim!
Nice. Fill our minds with the things of God, and no room left for the things of Satan. This is a time when limited brain power is quite useful. Space is limited, so no room for the garbage if I put the right stuff in. Good reminder, Brother Jim, thanks.
Wow that’s definitely another aspect of looking at it! Thanks Wally!
Good point Wally…I for one have so much useless garbage stored in my brain that I must delete something in order to make room for more…Should I tell another joke before hitting the delete button? 🙂
LOL, Patrick, what you said makes perfect sense to me. My storage is limited, so if I use it for God, not as muc is left over for the devil. And yes, keep on with the jokes. Your cheesy jokes are a high point of my day usually.
🙂
Good little witty ditty…
Hopefully it is not too silly…
Nothing silly about it…I hope you take this in the spirit for which it is written, but I consider this to be one of the best that you have written. Not because it is short, but because you wrote from the heart. You allowed us to see that you do have a fun side to you while keeping the subject right on target.
I am reminded of Romans 2:4. It was the quality of God’s character that made me want to give up certain thoughts and actions. They simply didn’t compare well, and they got in the way of what I really wanted. Thank you for the memory prompt.
I love Romans 2:4! I just preached the passage recently. Thanks for pointing to that verse and its connection to motivation for sanctification.
