Earlier this month I wrote a post titled “One Witty Ditty For Your Memory: Why Meditating on Christ Helps Us Fight Sin.” I’m thinking of making more of these kinds of posts in the future.
Two truths that Christian must hold is the severity of our sins and also the depth of God’s grace. Soften either and you have an imbalanced theology. So to remind myself of my guilt and also of God’s grace I thought this is ditty worth committing to our memory:
My sins, enough to have me stoned,
His saving grace, sufficient to atone.
Our sins makes us deserve the wages of death (Romans 6:23). But through the grace of God in Christ Jesus who died on the cross as our substitute, He is able to sufficiently atone for that guilt.

Thanks for reblogging this
You’re very welcome Pastor Jim!
YES! Please keep doing this if you can. Things like this can stick in our brains!
Wow this definitely encourages me to try to make more of these posts
Penal substitution is the heart of the Gospel and the bedrock of true Christianity. If that’s true, then a gospel message that defines the atonement in some other way is a false gospel and a Chrisrianity based on a false Christianity a false faith.
Amen. I am appalled that some would say they believe in the atonement but deny penal substitutions atonement. Makes no sense in my book
Thanks, Jim. I’ll remember that one. As you know, I come from a religious tradition in which most members think they do a good job of obeying the Ten Commandments.
Yeah, definitely remembering your background or others like it when I posted it. Hope it would be used by the Lord…thanks Tom for sharing!
That was a very witty witty ditty!
Seriously, though brother Jim, things like this are great. They really stick if you know what I mean.
Man that encouragement makes me want to make more of things like this!
