Another sweet set of Apologetic links 🙏😎
Thank you for the reblog
You’re very welcome Pastor Jim 😎🙏
Jim, I enjoyed Jason Lisle’s “Christ in the Movies” post. The independent fundamental Baptist church we attended after we first accepted Christ could probably best be described as “moderately” fundamentalist in some regards. The pastor was a big fan of action movies, especially movies with karate and other forms of physical fighting. But I also subscribed to the IFB newspaper, “The Sword of the Lord,” which condemned ALL Hollywood movies. It was preached in IFB circles that going to a movie theater was tantamount to visiting a brothel. Better that pastors should teach Christians to practice discernment when it comes to movies and other forms of entertainment (books, television, music, etc.) rather than condemning everything wholesale.
I thought Dr. Lisle’s article was nuanced. It wasn’t a blanket condemnation nor was it a total uncritical acceptance of all things cinematic. When you shared the Independent fundamentalist mentality it reminded me of how I first learned about it when I was in seminary with some students from that background and how they shared they went to very fundamentalistic schools where movie theaters were condemned but then renting a movie in Blockbuster was ok (at least for this particular circle of cultural fundamentalists). I tried a while back to write some posts on culture and films from a Christian perspective. Here’s the round up of those posts: https://veritasdomain.wordpress.com/2015/03/02/index-to-worldview-dilemmas-in-the-movies-and-comics-series/
Thanks, Jim. Just read your “Is it ever appropriate for Christians to view sexual sins in film?” and I agree with you. Many Christians think, “We’re under grace so we don’t need to get uptight about films with nudity.” This past weekend I heard a Christian woman boast that she saw both “50 Shades of Gray” movies because an unbeliever asked her to go and she didn’t want to come across like a “pious prude.” Yeah, we need to flee from that stuff because we’re not above sinful lust.
A bit off topic, my wordpress reader today has been problems in that it freezes when I try to read posts more than 12 hours old. Do you have the same problem as well?
No, no problems for me.
Atheists are an embarrassment- they are like the mad aunt no one wants to invite to Christmas dinner.
