This is an introduction to our series of posts that we will be doing on “God created roles for Men from Genesis 2.”
To begin with, why this series?
Answer: It is worth studying this topic because we should ask the question of what is the difference between a man and a boy. We should ask that question if you young and transitioning to adulthood. We should ask that question too if we are a male adult. Even if we have been a man for a while we ask that question in consideration of the next generation that we have a godly influence over. Think of our kids. Our grandkids. The kids we minister to at church. What is a man? What are you supposed to be as a man of God? What were you designed for?
But why this study from Genesis 2?
- It shows us God’s intention with the creation of man.
- Like Genesis 1, Genesis 2 is also important and foundational for understanding a biblical view of manhood and womanhood.[1]
- Note that Genesis 2:24 is quoted in the New Testament three times.
- Genesis 2:24 is quoted by Jesus in Matthew 19:5 addressing divorce.
- Genesis 2:24 is quoted by Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:16 addressing sexual immorality.
- Genesis 2:24 is quoted by Paul in Ephesians 5:31 addressing marriage.
- Other verses from Genesis 2 is presupposed in the rest of the Bible.
- Good point: “Turning the page to chapter 2, we might wonder what kind of sequel could match or exceed the glories of the first chapter. But, in fact, what happens next in the biblical story? After the heavens and the earth come together in the first creation, a man and a woman come together in the first marriage.”[2]
Thus this will be the purpose of this series: We will see 4 truths about men from Genesis 2:15-18a so that men would live up to God’s design of your identity today.
Stay Tune!
