Earlier this month Schreiner has lectured a series of lectures surveying the books of the Bible. The Master’s Seminary has made them available online on Youtube. I’m halfway through them myself. Here are the lectures below:
Yup, I appreciated Schreiner’s “Faith Alone” as well. Still haven’t gotten to the last two books in the Sola series. I hope to listen to some of these next week when I’m stuck in my cubicle. Not enough time, Jim!
Grace Alone and Christ Alone but I’m pretty disappointed in Carl Trueman being a regular writer for First Things. I’ll probably skip Grace Alone. It’s getting hard to step around the compromise.
I’m half way through the series and to be honest I thought it could have been better. In particular I thought it might have been good if Dr. Schriener could have opened up to actual passages, etc. But from other people’s lectures that survey the Bible I think this is unfortunate but not uncommon largely because I think the lecturers are trying to go over many things in a limited amount of time. Lord willing I plan to post something tommorow of a survey of the first five books by a no name guy that I think might be helpful to others in surveying each book’s purpose, structure and how it points towards Christ in a legitimate way and the inter-relationship of the Book in relations to the development of the Canon and the Gospel. Nevertheless I did enjoy Schreiner’s series in the sense of making me think about the Bible and his views and thoughts. Let me know if there is anything else I should clarify from my comment and/or your thoughts from Schreiner’s series, etc. I do think Schreiner is a wonderful new Testament scholar and wished he lectured on Romans the whole time instead which is a book that he has a lot of strength in. God bless you Bruce!
Thank you so much Jim! I think I will wait for your update. A while ago I bought an Amplified Bible which provides a short summary and overview of each book etc. I’m almost finished Revelation now and I found the experience of reading through the whole Bible in this “expanded” version very rewarding and I highly recommend it. I cross reference with the KJV, NIV and the ASV etc.
God’s grace and blessings to you also Jim!
