This is a Christian children’s book that I picked up from the Shepherd’s Conference. Unlike my younger unmarried days ten years ago in which the first book I read from my pile of purchased books from the Conference it isn’t a book on systematic theology, apologetics or ministry. Now it’s a children’s book to my daughters!

This is a children’s book written by Christian pastor, theological professor and Christian writer Kevin DeYoung. DeYoung is probably better known for his works for an adult Christian general audience. This is what I believe his second children’s book and he brings his writing skill to share biblical truths in a way that is accessible to his specific audience which in this instance is for children ages 1 to 3.
I love how the author wrote this book based upon the ABCs of the English alphabet. For instance A is for Adam and DeYoung tells us that in the beginning God created Adam and Eve. Parents reading this to their children will be able to expose their kids not only to biblical truths but also to the Alphabet. I thought it was pretty cool with how the book was a “biblical theology” marching from Genesis to Revelation beginning with God’s creation and ending with God’s new creation. It’s kind of neat to see that summary of the Bible! Each Alphabet covers a page that has a picture of the word of that letter.
Since it is a children’s book of course there is illustrations. The illustrator Don Clark at times gives pictures that are more abstract and maybe too abstract for the children. I know that in my reading to the kids they did ask me what does the picture has to do with what was read. Yet at other times the pictures are concrete and enjoyable and a delight for my children. For those who are concern with second commandment issues with images of Jesus this booklet is illustrated with that consideration. As a whole I did enjoy this book’s illustration and also the colors throughout the book. This cardboard book is handsome and printed in quality material.
I recommend this book because it is kids tested and theologian approved.
We attend DeYoung’s church now and are very happy with it. They take theology very seriously. We’ve been going through the Westminster Confession word-by-word in new member orientation!
Wow praise God! I’m much encouraged to hear that! How long have you been attending his church for now?

Another gem:
“On the one hand I am surprised that the maniac you mention is Dutch rather than American, but I also think of the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch, another Dutchman.”
Dutch?
Van Til, Bavinck, Dooyeweerd, Ouweneel…
Wahhabism, Saudi-Arabia, Al-Saud
Calvinism, The Netherlands, Oranje
Thanks, I enjoyed your review! I’ve enjoyed DeYoung’s “The Hole in Our Holiness” as well as several of his articles.
You’re welcome Tom. I have not read “The Hole in Our Holiness” but in seminary some of the guys told me they thought it was good. By chance do you have a review of his book on your blog? If somehow I read it already forgive me as I can forget with everything online
Here you go!

I am so impressed that someone thought about integrating Biblical Concepts into a children’s book of ABC’s. I’ve seen children’s books of Bible Stories, but this is really original. 😀
I agree that was pretty cool to tie it to the alphabet! Thank you also for the reblog! I hope you are having a blessed day

What a wonderful idea!
I really like the concept of Bibical ABC’s and dads reading to daughters…😊😊😊
Are you also familiar with his earlier work on which this is based? “The Biggest Story” (2015) is geared toward 5-11 year olds and tells the Genesis-Revelation narrative in 10 short chapters. Many of the illustrations from “The Biggest Story” were re-used for “The Biggest Story ABC.”
