I haven’t recently have these kinds of post that puts things into bite size memorable ditties but I thought it would be good to post this one in light of some heavy counseling I have been doing recently in ministry.
There comes a point with those who are in serious rebellion against God where their wicked lifstyle is going to incur grave consequences that I start warning them with a passage from Proverbs 13:15: “Good understanding produces favor, But the way of the treacherous is hard.” I usually start using this verse as one of the last things I say to those who willfully choose a path that is wrong. Here’s a little rhyme to drive the point home and hopefully make the person remember how serious this is:
If you reject godly instruction,
Be prepared for the path of destruction.
Sometimes the most loving thing you can ever do is warn them about their sin and also point them to Jesus for forgiveness, salvation and sanctification.
Thanks for this witty ditty! It’s a good one. I’m always emphasizing God’ unmerited grace in my posts to contrast the genuine Gospel vs. works righteousness false gospels, but Christians need to follow the Lord in obedience. I’ve read a few articles recently about the “hyper grace” movement, where Christians are encouraged not to feel convicted by sin or to confess sin. Very dangerous. Believers should not be weighted down with legalistic scrupulosity, BUT we also need to pay attention when the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin through the Word.
Yeah….I like how this subject is written of in Jude 4 of the Amplified Bible. Those who teach hyper grace are perverting the true grace of God. They are using it for liberty of the flesh and not liberty in the Lord.
That is a relevant passage. Grace is not a license to sin.
Amen Tom! You are right, we are saved by grace but that doesn’t mean after being saved we just do whatever we want but if we really understand the Gospel we would be motivated to loving obedience to God. Because of your comment I want to write a post on “hyper grace” or “radical grace,” maybe sometime next week (if I remember)…and remind me if I forget lol!
RE: I want to write a post on “hyper grace” or “radical grace,”
Looking forward to it! The articles I read referenced Joseph Prince, who seems to be one of the principle propagators of hyper grace.
Good ditty. It is like driving a car blind folded. You might be driving along fine for a little bit but eventually you are going to crash and it is going to hurt.
Patrick that’s a good analogy. Unfortunately when people are chasing their addiction (really their idolatry) they are as you described it…blind. As blind as a bat…I just pray that the truth captured by the witty ditty and the verse from Proverbs be used by the Lord in a specific counseling case I am dealing with that they repent and turn away from their self-destructive lifestyle; can you pray for that brother Patrick?
Absolutely…
Thank you for the witty ditty…
You’re welcome Crissy! If you are led please pray for repentance with someone I’m counseling to warn them from their pursuit of a self-destructive lifestyle
I will bring the person before the Lord
Amen, Slim. Sometimes I think we just don’t practice enough tough love. Gentle truth because people are fragile and should be handled with care, but just the same we need some plain speaking going on.
Agreed sister. I think I err on the side of being overly gracious as a Pastor (outside the blogosphere). But sometimes there is a place for tough love warning especially when people are getting self-destructive and destructive towards those around them. If you can pray for a specific unspoken counseling matter I am dealing with, I will appreciate it very much sister.
Praying right now for your unspoken counseling matter. Asking for eyes to open and ears to hear, and that the Lord will bless you with the wisdom and strength needed.
Amen! Great ditty witty!
Thank you; if you can pray for the person I’m dealing with in regards to a counseling case that prompted this post, I would really appreciate it sister.
Good ditty!
Thanks Wally; if you can pray for the counseling case I’m dealing with, that would give me immense joy brother
I can’t think of much that is more true and relevant than this ditty Jim.
Indeed. I hope the Lord would use it as a wake up call for those who need it just as I hope and pray God use your most recent post…how was your Lord’s day?
Thank you for this Witty Ditty, brother, I love it! These really help me connect theological truths to a memory, so I don’t forget them. I have a memory of a gold fish, my daughter calls me the ‘forget-a-nator’ so I am really blessed by these!
You’re welcome! I thought that is funny: “e ‘forget-a-nator’” is that like a play on “forget” and narrator??
Yes sir, isn’t she funny? Children truly are a joyful gift from God!
Good one, brother.
