We must be careful that just because something is made into a “meme” doesn’t mean it is logically sound. For instance here’s a meme on social media:
Of course this question is trying to make a case against Christian cake shop owners’ refusal to be involved with a wedding ceremony that they disagree with.
So here’s my quick serious answer to this “serious question:”
- I think this question fail to acknowledge the difference between emergency life-threatening situation versus non-emergency non-life threatening situation.
- I guess using the logic of this meme that means in non-emergency situations we can also force Muslim bakers to make Chinese pork buns, a Chinese restaurant should cater for a Klans meeting, an African American shirt designer to make “All Lives Matter” T-Shirt, and a Jewish tattoo artist must make racists tattoos for a gang of Neo-Nazis…because hey, doctors have to save lives right?
Yeah, it’s comparing apple’s to oranges.
Exactly Tom. It’s a “low hanging fruit” argument for their position but I don’t know why it’s gotten the attention it did from their own supporters….
Just thinking out loud: A supporter of same-sex marriage cannot tolerate a viewpoint that views same-sex marriage as immoral/sinful. For them, it’s not an issue of “You have your beliefs and I have mine,” but that the Christian view is akin to racism and anti-Semitism and must be stamped out.
Excellent⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks Crissy; thanks for the five stars. I hope you are doing well down under?
Nice and cold down here Pastor Jim 😊
and have you noticed how in their rush to turn the tables, those opposed to both Christians and Christianity, go for the most bizarre and ridiculous counter scenerios…as in this case.
Good observation. And it seems it is the most blatantly ridiculous stuff that is being presented, its almost as if we are seeing the fulfillment of 1 Corinthians 1:19 before our very eyes with what’s going on in our culture and society doesn’t it?
Indeed, where are the wise?
Good point Julie
It is obviously a most un-serious question. Why pose something so ridiculous? Why not just ask if a gay baker should be forced to make a cake with Romans 1:26-27 on it? Because the pervert lobby knows that no Christian would refuse healthcare to sodomites.
I think you are right the other side knows full well no Christian would refuse the opportunity save someone’s life no matter what their sinful lifestyle is. I thought that’s another good counter-question you brought up: “hy not just ask if a gay baker should be forced to make a cake with Romans 1:26-27 on it? “
Excellent points, Jim! I might add that the bakery didn’t deny all service to the gay couple; only that which was contrary to their beliefs. In that sense alone, this meme simply lost the point it tried to make.
Good point. Did you ever think we get to the point where people would think that people must be forced to provide nonemergency services that goes against individual consciences and religious conviction?
Nope! Never did. But then, I think other laws have gotten passed because Christians never thought they would. What follows is my personal opinion, but I think the infamous “Roe vs Wade” decision was made because few Christians thought it would ever happen. If it had been given the opposition it should have, it would not have passed so easily. There is an interesting point about this liberal cornerstone which (so called) pro choicers tend to ignore. Norma McConvey (called ‘Jane Roe’ in this case) changed her views on abortion years later. As a result, she (the very person arguing for abortion in that case) became a roman catholic activist in the pro life movement. And yet, pro choicers still use the Roe vs Wade decision as their weapon in debate. If the very person arguing for abortion on demand changed her mind, why can’t the Roe vs Wade decision be overturned as well? It isn’t as ‘ironclad’ as they would have us believe.
I may have missed it in the comments, but here is the main reason this meme is a load of horse hockey.
1. No baker ever took an oath to protect life.
2. No baker has a legal obligation to treat all patients regardless of ethical, religious, or racial issues.
3. No baker has to be licensed to practice baking. Failure to obtain and hold a licence will result in criminal charges.

[…] Response to this Meme […]
That sure is an elaborate meme! I find it to be a bit confusing, though.
