In the United States tomorrow (Thursday) will be Thanksgiving.
There’s many things to be thankful to God for. I’m thankful for my salvation and God’s work of sanctification. I am thankful to God for working in the lives of the people in my church.
I think this year I have grown in my appreciation of my wife.
Maybe its because I have been teaching a lot on relationship and marriage both in the States and overseas but I have been really thankful for my wife and all that she does as a wife and as a mother. Maybe it is also pastoring and ministering to those who are single, courting, newly married and burying someone who has been married for decades that has made my eyes zoom in my own marriage more and see my wife with more greater appreciation…
I don’t think I would be able to be in ministry if it wasn’t for my wife. For her taking care of the home so I can go out and minister. For her being frugal that allows us to give to support the church, missionaries and ministries overseas. For her many Sundays taking care of our kids so I can minister to those at church with preaching, teaching, counseling, encouragement, prayers, questions, discipleship, etc. And there’s those many days and nights studying…
I think she has served me more than I serve her.
I’m hoping that what extra money we have this year will be for her to bless her.
I have been appreciating my wife more each day this year. I think I love her more than when we first got married. I am thankful for God’s sovereignty and grace and love in the gift of a godly wife.
Salvation is already enough. But for Him to overflow His blessing with an addition of a godly wife? How can I not be thankful?
Yes: a godly pastor’s wife is truly a blessing to the pastor and also to the congregation. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! J.
Amen! I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving tommorow! May it be filled with joy, family and food and worship of God
Amen I see that in my church
How wonderful, such a beautiful testimony of a servant who probably serves without limelight or accolades…. bravo!
I think the pastor often have the limelight than the wife. Have a happy Thanksgiving Lisa, what does your Thanksgiving plan look like tommorow?
I’m in Boston st my parents home…everyone’s coming here – and I’m the cook! 😃
Wonderful post, Jim! I thank The Lord for the patience my wife has shown me, as well!
I’m grateful for my wife as well! To answer your other comment I’m glad you had a good time with family earlier than Thanksgiving and I hope you are doing better than yesterday with the struggle with whatever bug you were having on Thanksgiving? I am recovered from Jetlag by Monday; it took a bit longer and I think I was recovering not just with jet lag but the intensive preparation for weeks while in the midst of doing weekly ministry. Thanks for asking!
🙂
Amen
And Amen! Doing anything for Thanksgiving sister?
Yes…I cooked a big dinner for my son and his wife. She only had the one day off. Thankfully he has been home all week but putting in a water line.I haven’t seen them since the end of June. He hauls cattle out west ,big rig, and is gone more than he is home. Life does get crazy busy .Son #3 and his family ,6 kids under 8 yrs. came for a visit after there time with her family. I’m tired and looking forward to a day off tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing! I’m happy for you that the Lord has blessed you with a loving and godly wife!
Aww thanks brother! I think we are both blessed by our wife! Also can you check to see if my comments on your blog might have ended in the spam box?
Thanks for the heads up! I retrieved your good comment and also replied.
What a sweet post
Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Jim, you brought tears to my eyes…and I’m sure to your wife’s as well.
They always say behind a great man is a greater woman…
it takes two…and you are yoked as one working in tandem as one…your marriage is a blessing to those who witness it and to God…for you honor one another…and that is His command…
Yay Jim!!!
Blessings and hugs to you both this Thanksgiving!!!
Aww thanks. I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving and hopefully the Mayor is there for the get together too?

Your welcome brother I’m good thank you for asking tonight how are you doing? Going to have Thanksgiving with family how about you?
Have you heard of the book Speaking of Jesus please look it up.
Never heard of that book. Will look it up later got to answer a call…is it heretical or solid and have you written about it on your blog? Glad to hear about your thanksgiving. Tommorow night I will be with my church for dinner but lunch is with family!
From Amazon check it out. From the Back Cover
Quit defending Christianity.
Author Carl Medearis is not interested in keeping Christianity alive. Not one bit. Carl believes it has grown into something that is rarely attractive, frequently divisive, and all too often embarrassing. He believes you may feel this way too. In his new book, Speaking
of Jesus, Carl gives us a wink and a grin and the permission to stop feeding this thing called Christianity. His offer is that doing so allows us the freedom to relax and feast on Jesus.
So heretical! How did you hear about this book? Isn’t it so sad to see so much heresies out there? I imagine this book is pretty popular?
Yes I agree I got the book from someone I know. I read part of a chapter I think it was about Jesus I was like what?
And this as well. Some of us fear moments when we need to defend our theology. Some of us seek them out. But we are seldom ready the way Jesus seemed to be ready. So how do we draw others to God in the midst of these ordinary conversations the way Jesus did?
In Speaking of Jesus, Carl Medearis draws on his experience of international reconciliation between Muslims and Christians to remind us of the heart of the matter: Jesus. Here he gives us tools, stories, and the foundation we need to move beyond “us” and “them” and simply talk about the One who changes it all.
As Carl writes, “While others are explaining and defending various isms and ologies we’re simply pointing people to our friend. The one who uncovers and disarms. Who leads people right to himself. The beginning and the end of the story. A good story indeed.”
Man so sad the amount of popular sensationalism and the disdain for doctrines. I suspect the Jesus he presents is nothing more than a friend…not Lord and Savior right? How many pages is this book?
I have not read it is 192 pages.
The person how gave me the book maybe didn’t read it so I don’t blame them.
Maybe, that happens often. I have recieved books from people that were heretical but the person didn’t know and figured it was something that looks deep.
Yes.
I have not written about it. Yes I agree sounds like you will have a good time.
Jim, how blessed you are to know what the Lord has done for you, your family and your ministry. At such an early stage in your marriage to recognize this blessing is rare. I pray for many years ahead you may love and cherish each other for His name’s sake. Much love and blessings for you all. 🙂
Wow thank you for your prayers. I just prayed for you and Jerry that God would continue to sustain and use you for His glory. What does Thanksgiving plan look like for you guys this year?
Thank you, Jim, for your precious prayers. At our age, Thanksgiving is an ongoing daily event for His grace and mercy, for His presence and power, for never leaving us, but comforting, leading and providing every need, physically and spiritually. I am doing meditations the last of the year in the last book, of Revelation. The praise, honor and glory to our “Lord God omnipotent” can never be truly expressed until we see Him in His full glory. Like John, we only have visions through His spiritual awakening in our hearts as we prepare to spend eternity with HIm. I pray that much love and blessings fill your heart with gratitude that He has chosen you to serve Him. 🙂
What a sweet post SlimJim, praise the Lord! ☺️
It was a pleasure reading your post. Thank you for sharing.
Blessings for Thanksgiving.
Thank you for reading this Crissy; do you guys in Australia have a Thanksgiving sort of holiday on another day during the year?
Hi Pastor Jim. Unfortunately in Australia we don’t have anything like Thanksgiving.
I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving GP Cox! What does your Thanksgiving plan for today look like?
