RE: Grieving as an atheist – I hadn’t even thought about what an atheist parent tells their young child with terminal cancer about death. Sad and sobering.
RE: A Christian and a Buddhist Walk into a Coffee Shop – Good comparison of the focus of works religionists vs. believers. This reminds me of the words Martyn Lloyd-Jones in Studies in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus exhorted believers to help the sick, the poor, and those in prison, but the emphasis was really more on the spiritual than the temporal. Believers should see unbelievers as the sick, the poor, and those in prison who need the Gospel. Not that we shouldn’t help relieve temporal suffering but that is not our primary focus.
You said: “Not that we shouldn’t help relieve temporal suffering but that is not our primary focus.” I say Amen! I was just reading something last night about World Vision. They have become so big and loss focus on the Gospel in so many ways. They have a policy of not evangelizing the kids they help but at the same time they appeal to Christians to give to be a “light.” They also have used their funds to support Islamic charities. I don’t think its very honest to raise fund as Christian charities and not give the Gospel; how much worst is it when they then give it to charaities that preach another gospel…
Yup, I’m also seeing that many of these once-solid para-church organizations are going the ecumenical, doctrine-light route. Sad.

I hope you have a blessed Saturday sister
