Yankee Whiskey Bravo 👍👍
Thanks for the listing! I’m limited as a Theology 101 guy, but I appreciated “Math, the Biblical worldview, and the mystery of God” and “Reason and Cause of Salvation” from Lightning Apologetics. I also appreciated your views on Schaeffer. Five years ago, the ecumenically-minded pastor of the church we had started attending, a big fan of Schaeffer, came over to our house to visit. We shared that we were from a Catholic background but had accepted Christ. He said we must really miss all of the grandiose architecture and and religious artwork associated with Catholicism. His eyes almost popped out of his sockets when we told him, like Zwingli, the starker the better. I have nothing against art in general, I used to dabble as an amateur artist, but in Catholicism, the physical (statuary, paintings, stained glass, vestments, implements, etc.) became THE THING rather than spiritual truth. We know about the decorative art of the Tabernacle and Temple, but the vast majority of Catholic art goes far beyond decoration with their representations. Some evangelicals object to illustrations of Jesus in childrens’ Bibles. My opinion is such illustrations are instructive for children and are clearly not meant as objects of worship/veneration. But Catholics are regularly on their knees in prayer in front of statues of Jesus, Mary and saints. Sorry, for the loooong comment. I’m going to have to write a post on this topic down the road.
Sounds like a good idea for a post. I do feel Schaeffer’s book on art is one of best one out there in that it is biblical. That doesn’t mean he’s gotten everything right in his life and theology. Glad you read the various links brother, have a blessed day!
I have never read Schaeffer’s book so I can’t really speak about it. I’m going to add it to my list. My pastor was very appreciative of Catholicism’s religious art, which surprised me. Having come out of Catholicism, I knew its religious art was/is extremely “problematic” for believers. I would soon learn that the pastor’s interest in Catholicism went a lot farther than art – a post I just happen to have in the queue for next week.
Thanks, brother! Hope you’re having a blessed Friday, too!
As always, thanks for the great resources. Much appreciated.
