This is a Christian Home School Lesson Series for first graders on the 50 United States.
I typically go over two states at a time since we teach our kids multiple subjects during the day and two states at a time seems to be enough. However if one is teaching one subject at a time I think going over four states at a time would be just right.
Our series’ lesson plan will be in alphabetical order and go over four states at a time.
Are there any other interesting facts you would add for any of the states mentioned? Feel free to leave a comment!
Tools:
- Besides the lesson plan below I also use the ‘‘United States” Discovery Workbook for the 1st Grade as an activity book. Other suitable works could be substituted.

Spiritual Discussion:
Reminder that just because someone claims to be a Christian does not mean they are a Christian.
Go over Gospel and salvation with child/children.
Thanks for the interesting summaries. I know very little about Montana and Nebraska. As for Nevada, it’s interesting the number of people here in New York who express the desire to go to Las Vegas at least once in their life to experience the mirage. Probably the last place on earth I would want to vacation in. I remember in my studies of Mormonism back in the day that Joseph Smith taught the Garden of Eden was located in the vicinity of Independence, Missouri.
Wow thanks for all those facts of each state. Living in California where Vegas is near by I think it is over-rated there or maybe as a Pastor I wouldn’t want to go there and stumble people with its association of whatever happens in Vegas, stay in Vegas. When was your studies of Mormonism was that during your independent fundamentalist’s days?
RE: studies of Mormonism
The chronology is getting fuzzier as time passes, but I think I became really heavy into studying Mormonism a couple of years before I accepted Christ. The idea of a worldwide religion starting up just 20 miles from Rochester appealed to my interest in history. Some of the materials I was reading about Mormonism from Christian authors, as well as my Bible reading, were also causing me problems with my Roman Catholicism. After I joined the fundamentalist church, I was told my materials on Mormonism were demonic so I brought them all over to a member’s home to burn in his fireplace. But he wasn’t aware of HOW MUCH material I had accumulated and his fireplace couldn’t handle it all. Lots of smoke in their living room. So I ended up throwing out the bulk of it in black plastic bags. I regretted it later because there were some excellent materials included. The knee jerk at that church was to burn stuff like that from your non-believing past. Very anti-book reading unless it was inspirational books from approved authors.

Your welcome.
No not yet you?
Oh yes I agree it’s crystal clear Jesus is the Messiah!

Ah! I spent two years of my childhood in Missouri! Blazing hot summers and icy cold winters with lots of snow. I was young and strong enough to take it back then and I loved it.
Nice! I imagine you lived there up till you joined the Air Force but after your Air Force days you lived in South Carolina?
No, that was when my father was in the Air Force. My childhood was in SC except for the time I was 5.5 years old to 10 years old. I joined the USAF when I was 23 years old (after college).
