This is a Christian Home School Lesson Series for first graders on the 50 United States.
I typically go over two states at a time since we teach our kids multiple subjects during the day and two states at a time seems to be enough. However if one is teaching one subject at a time I think going over four states at a time would be just right.
Our series’ lesson plan will be in alphabetical order and go over four states at a time.
Are there any other interesting facts you would add for any of the states mentioned? Feel free to leave a comment!
Tools:
- Besides the lesson plan below I also use the ‘‘United States” Discovery Workbook for the 1st Grade as an activity book. Other suitable works could be substituted.

Spiritual Discussion:
Reminder that just because someone claims to be a Christian does not mean they are a Christian.
Go over Gospel and salvation with child/children.
Thanks for the fun facts about each of these states! When Rochesterians retire and move south they generally either go to Florida or North Carolina.
Interesting fact you shared. Why North Carolina? Florida I can see…
I think North Carolina is so popular because it has a lot of coastline and is far enough south to avoid most traces of winter but far enough north to escape Florida’s tropical heat. I never hear of people going down to the two in-between states, Georgia or South Carolina. Maybe there’s a certain “trendy” appeal to North Carolina i.e., you’re not hip if you move to Georgia.

So cool! I knew about the Wright Brothers, but this was the first I heard about the English Colony on Roanoke Island!
Glad to hear you learned something from this post! Also thank you for the reblog brother
Glad to do it, Jim!
Delightful activities and as you are a Christian homeschooler I see why you include some religious facts and approve of that but am surprised to think first graders understand per cent. I would include things about people instead, religious leaders in creation of state and later religious leaders in a state’s anti slavery movement in free states.
