This is a Christian Home School Lesson Series for first graders on the 50 United States.
I typically go over two states at a time since we teach our kids multiple subjects during the day and two states at a time seems to be enough. However if one is teaching one subject at a time I think going over four states at a time would be just right.
Our series’ lesson plan will be in alphabetical order and go over four states at a time.
Are there any other interesting facts you would add for any of the states mentioned? Feel free to leave a comment!
Tools:
- Besides the lesson plan below I also use the ‘‘United States” Discovery Workbook for the 1st Grade as an activity book. Other suitable works could be substituted.

Spiritual Discussion:
Reminder that just because someone claims to be a Christian does not mean they are a Christian.
Go over Gospel and salvation with child/children.
Your spiritual discussion is a good one. My kids ask me that question frequently. “Is this person going to heaven? Is this person really a Christian?”
As for the states, what a fun study! 😊 This year we’ve been doing a lot of memorization and my kids have actually loved it. We often memorize to music, which is perfect for my second grader. I think the Animaniacs might have a states and capitals song, but I’m not 100% sure. It might be worth looking up on YouTube.
Enjoy!
Wow I need to do more memorization with my kids. I also need to find some of those educational songs by Animaniacs to reinforce my lesson plans, when appropriate. Thanks for the tip Elihu, I hope you have a blessed Wednesday
Reblogged this on Talmidimblogging.
Thanks for the reblog!
Yankee Whiskey Bravo 👍😎
Always enjoy these…thanks! The spiritual facts and discussions are great.
Thanks for another set of fun and also spiritually sobering state facts! Of the five states that border New York, I’ve probably been to Pennsylvania more than the other four combined. So interesting to see the Pennsylvania Amish riding their buggies in the road. We have some Amish around our parts as well. They would make an interesting post some day. Have never been to Rhode Island even though it’s relatively close. My wife’s sister did a genealogy study and found a family connection to John Clarke, Baptist minister, advocate of religious freedom, and one of the colony’s co-founders. He would be happy that my wife accepted Christ because Bible Christianity is so rare up here in the Northeast.
“Bible Christianity is so rare up here in the Northeast.” It seems the Northeast is quite a spiritually burned out zone with few real Christians and churches. I’m glad you and your wife are among the believers in NY! Keep on being a light there Tom. To many nonbelievers they probably see you as spiritual Amish in being a real Christian with biblical doctrines, minus the buggies and eccentric wear of course…
Thanks, Jimmy! Yes, we are definitely the “oddballs” and “crazy fundamentalists” to our friends, family, and co-workers. Thanks for the encouragement!
Rhode Island, even though being the smallest state, has the same amount of Electoral votes (4) as Idaho does. Because over here we have hardly any people per square-mile compared to Rhode Island!
Wow didn’t know that! From your comments I’m assuming you are from Idaho? If so I heard Northern Idaho is more rural than other parts of Idaho? Is that true?
Yes, we’re from Idaho. And yes, the largest city in Northern Idaho has a population of about 45,000, and that happens to be the city that we live in! Every summer our city has about 150,000 tourists come to tour, so that’s a huge increase in population every year!
Thanks for this Jim! I’m still trying to figure out how Georgia became the peach state and we didn’t. I’ve been told that they beat us to the punch, but haven’t found anything to back that up.
You’re not the only one, my daughters asked the same question too! Any other interesting facts about South Carolina that you can share??
SC was the first state to secede from the union leading to the civil war. (not really a fun fact but a significant one).
