Thank you for the links.
Thanks. My wife bought Reza Aslan’s book. After reading the jacket cover, I thought it would be a waste of time. It’s good to read a Christian view in a book report.
Which work of his did she get? Am I correct to assume the one he wrote on Jesus? Asking since he wrote other books. Thanks for reading this round up by the way, and the comment!
The one that you gave a link to the rebuttal thereof, Zealot.
I am always so thankful for the resources. Blessings to you and your ministry.
Thanks for the links, and your effort to put them together.
You’re welcome! I appreciate you coming by with your busy schedule! Are you off work yet or is your shift 12 hours plus?
I am off. I work 8 hours is all. But I am off Wednesday nights. Which is good because last week and this week I had clinicals for my Nursing Assistant course which adds another shift almost. Except that is free work lol
Thanks for another presup listing! I appreciated the articles on Reza Aslan, witnessing tools, Rachel Held Evans, and, with sadness, the pastor who allegedly turned his back on the faith. As I was reading the articles a few thoughts came to mind and I don’t mean them as major criticisms of the original writers, but they’re just a few thoughts that came up.
1. Reza Aslan – Good article, but the writer states that the Zealot political party “was not formed for another 35 years after the resurrection of Christ.” That’s an inaccuracy that’s repeated on the internet based on the mistaken belief that the Zealots began with The Great Jewish Revolt in A.D. 66. But historians believe the anti-Roman, Jewish political Zealots were organizing as far back as 6 AD in reaction the Census of Quirinius.
2. Witnessing tools – Some excellent materials. What saddens me is that there are specific articles devoted witnessing to the Mormons (16 million members) and Jehovah’s Witnesses (9 million members), but nothing on witnessing to Roman Catholics (1.3 BILLION members). That’s no surprise because several of the sites listed at the bottom of the article are run by evangelical apologists who openly embrace Roman Catholicism as a Christian entity i.e., Zacharias, Lane Craig, McDowell, Strobel, Geisler.
3. Rachel Held Evans – I wish Triablogue had more of an opinion to share about Held Evans. He didn’t take the time to familiarize himself as you did with your multi-part review of her last book. That’s okay because we can’t all become knowledgeable about everything, but this article was somewhat of a “non-statement.” I got a chuckle out of his remark that “Pulpit and Pen…(is) like an internet version of the Westboro cult.” I’ve learned to avoid P&P myself.
4. Pastor who walked away – I doubt the person ever genuinely trusted in Christ. I walked away from the Lord for a long “season” mainly out of frustration with fundamentalism, but could never deny Him or the truths of the Bible. I see Bible Thumping Wingnut refers to a similar experience in his life.
Wow very good feed back, where to start! I appreciate Triablogue a lot when they do comment, sometimes Steve Hays might not do a direct refutation but he helps me to put things in perspective. Like how Triablogue haven’t been able to go into details with RHE (because he went after bigger fish to fry) I haven’t done much on Reza Aslan though I believe I have two or three posts on his stuff. Speaking of resources on Rome, you should make a post of recommended ministry for those who are beginners, those you recommend and are sound in their responses. I know you write so much I wouldn’t be surprised you already have written one already before, perhaps it might even be a good Thursday Throwback post for your Thursday series…what do you think?
RE: resources on Rome
Thanks! Good idea. I’ve got a links page but some of the resources are much better than others and many people may not even be aware of the page. I was actually contemplating publishing a post listing those resource a few days ago. Once again we are on the same page! 🙂
RE: I could never deny Him
Correction: OK, I am very capable of “denying” Him in various ways. What I meant to communicate is my faith in Him is as strong as His grip on me, John 10:28. 🙂
