This is a serious and important post.
One of the most frightening passage from the Bible is what Jesus said:
Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many [n]miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
(Matthew 7:22-23)
The consequences of being a false Christian has too much at stake for eternity.
You want to make sure you really are a Christian. You want to make sure you genuinely will be going to heaven. Of course going to heaven is not by our own works, but the works of Christ. But you got to have genuine trust in Christ’s person and work. You need to be rooted in Christ.
How do you know you are rooted in Christ? Here’s a biblical diagnostic spiritual DNA test.
If you are rooted in Christ your spiritual Father is God the Father. This is what 1 John 2:23 teaches: “Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.” Yet John 8:44 also teaches that some people’s spiritual father is Satan.
Who is your Spiritual Father? It depends if you are rooted in Christ or rooted in Sin.
Which passage is true of our life? Since we can easily deceive ourselves you might want to also ask how your spouse, your kids, your best friend and those who know you would answer this question.
Galatians 5:19-22?
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Or Galatians 5:23-23?
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
The fruits in your life will show where your heart is rooted in. Fruit shows root and root display its fruit.
Christians are to display the fruit of the Spirit. That’s what Galatians 5:24 teaches:
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Notice the verb ” have crucified.” It doesn’t say “might crucify.” In the Greek it is an indicative mood showing a statement of fact. It’s not saying “might crucify.” That would be in the subjunctive mood.
Notice the strong verb “crucify.” That’s a graphic way of killing. Of killing sin. Have you been caught murdering your sins?
If it turns out there’s no power at all in your Christian life, you might want to check if you have truly trusted in Christ as Lord and Savior. If a lamp has no power one of the trouble shoot steps would be to see if it is plugged in to the electric socket. Likewise check to see if you are plugged in and rooted in Christ.
If it turns out you discovered you are not saved, too much is at stake for you to turn away. Turn to Christ now. Confess your sins. Cry out to God. Trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Trust in the promises of God’s Word that those who turn to Him will be saved (Romans 10:9). And praise Him for His grace.
So very well said!
“The fruits in your life will show where your heart is rooted in. Fruit shows root and root display its fruit.”
Powerful, brother, powerful.
Thanks. Posted this in light of a counseling matter and I have to jot down my thoughts. If you can pray for this discussion I will have next week.
I will. I actually wondered if real life had fueled this post.
My, my, my! Hallelujah and glory to God! Let a man examine himself and cry out to God!
Amen. TY.
You’re welcome! I got your number and modified your post so it won’t be online. Your booklets should be coming next week! Let me know when it arrives yeah?
OK have a blessed day.
It is all up to our God who is and who isn’t.
It’s nice to see you are aware of Gods’ sovereignty. Unfortunately there’s far too many self professing christians who think they can quote bible verses to reverse God’s judgement. No one ever stops to think where those who try to justify themselves to Jesus got their justifications.
It’s always the church and the pastor down the road that’s religious, and got it wrong.
Yes, there’s great confusion out there. Along with all other doctrines, doctrine regarding salvation is getting so watered down these days. Many are confusing some type of subjective experience at a religious gathering with genuine repentance unto salvation in Christ.
Yeah I see that often in college campus evangelism and also with pastor counseling: people confusing some type of subjective experience at a religious gathering with genuine repentance unto salvation in Christ. I think I have some major heat push back going over this point this morning but the guy agree to meet with me early next week to talk about his assurance of salvation. I see God working through this though. What doesn’t help is there’s so many people who right away flatter false converts to death and any major sins I point out their parents and even other Christians are so quick to downplay it. Sometimes Christian psychologists are the worst for not pointing out sins and enabling the problem by explicitly saying the clients are still good…and also not Gospel motivated or Gospel driven solutions to problems. Its a lot of religious language non-sense. I might be showing my grief a little here…
Yeah, there are so many snares and pitfalls under the evangelical big tent. One need only turn on TBS for ten minutes. I scan the “Christian Post” website for weekend roundup news items and its like walking through a minefield.
Yes, I totally agree with you. There are a lot of pastors and
“Christian” influencers out there who I’ve heard say stuff along the lines of: “All you need to do is say this little prayer, and right when you’re finished saying that, you’re saved!”
It’s like: “Say the magic word, and Bingo! You won!”
The Gospel has been watered down so much!
And also, notice that it says ‘Lord’ twice.
When we really want to put emphasis on something we put it in all caps or bold lettering; when the Hebrews wanted to put emphasis on something they would repeat it.
So when it says “Lord, Lord”, that means that this is a person that is passionate about this, it’s not someone who suddenly tried to act like they were saved, this is someone who really thought that they were.
Thank you for this great post!
Your comment Elijah is right on…to the T. I especially enjoy your observation about the double “Lord, Lord” and its significance. How we need to be faithful in how we present the Gospel to others and also even teach it within the church Amen? Also God bless your film project Elijah!
Amen!
Well, that actually wasn’t my observation. I just heard it in sermon by Paul Washer. Have you ever heard of him?
I really have to repost this! I hope you don’t mind!! Super powerful post!!
Aww that would be nice of you! God bless you for sharing this post, may the Lord be glorified.
No problem! Amen!
On one side there’s fake christianity and on the other is legalism. Some folks just don’t understand the road between those errors. You have to have a REAL relationship with Christ for your Christianity to be True. It is dependent on Faith to be sure, but said Faith will produce a desire for Righteousness and Blossom with the Fruits of The Spirit.
Your comment is so right on and so rich. The issue is genuine relationship with Christ. I love how you phrased it: “Faith will produce a desire for Righteousness and Blossom with the Fruits of The Spirit.” Sadly we see often the error of people falling in the extreme of two ditch: legalism or being libertine. True Christian faith is driven by love and grace as motivation to be like Christ, bearing the fruit of the Spirit. I hope and pray your comment and my post would be helpful for anyone out there…oh and thanks for sharing this post I just saw that!
I hope and pray to help folks out there as well. And I was glad to share this Jim!

Powerful and very necessary.
Thank you as these were jotted thoughts I have for a upcoming conversation concerning someone’s salvation. Thank you also the reblog sister!
You are welcome. Have a blessed weekend in Jesus .
And thank you for sharing your jotted thoughts.

Praise the Lord, Jim. This is much-needed ~ one reason I am preparing to post Sproul’s lectures on Reformed Theology along with The Holiness of God. What was true centuries ago has been distorted by modern religion. Watching the deterioration for decades was at first depressing but brought me to the throne of grace to appeal to the only One who can bring the truth to light again. Blessings as you continue to teach the doctrine of the power of the gospel.
I’m glad to hear you posting Sproul’s lectures on your site as there’s so much biblical and Gospel illiteracy in contemporary Evangelical churches today. I just prayed that God would bless your effort in reaching a lost and dying world and also edifying the saints. May the Lord bless your upcoming weekend and especially your Lord’s Day.
Thank you, Jim. At this stage, I look back to where the Lord intervened with the truth in my life ~ when I was born of HIs Spirit to understand spiritual things. I thought I knew the truth before then but it was only a head knowledge. going through the motions of being good and obedient to HIs Word. What a difference the power of His Spirit makes to do His work in us. This is the yoke, the burden, and the joy that He gives us. While I am able, I desire to preserve as much as the Lord wills for others to be brought to this precious life that is ours in Christ. Blessings for your Lord’s Day.
I like your analogy between the lamp and electric socket and our connection to the source of light and life. It is important that our spiritual Father is God and not Satan, but in addition to having spiritual children, the Bible teaches that Satan and the fallen angels also had physical children: Genesis 3:15, Genesis 6:4, Numbers 13:33, Daniel 2:43. And it’s important for those physical children to realize who they are if they are to be rid of the nature they’ve inherited from their fathers.

This is one of the most important blog posts out there. Please read, and ask yourself, “Am I saved from my sins?”
Amazing post I often tend to think on the same similarities on the same subject as well.
Thanks for your like of my post,”17 Israel – Shabbat – May 31, 2019; I appreciate your kindness..
[…] Sometimes Christian growth and change is like a child’s physical growth and change: You might not realize you are growing and changing. Unless you keep an eye out for it. But if it turns out you are genuinely not growing at all, you might ask if you are a Christian. This is important. Here’s a Quick Spiritual DNA Test. […]
Amazing read 😊
I agree
Every pastor needs to ask himself if and why anyone in his congregation could be this self deceived. I have relatives that are esteemed by their congregation and the elders. Yet by their owns words, i know, they are hostile to John 3:3,16.
They love to do opposite of Matt. 6:1-6. They confuse works before men with bearing spiritual fruit. Their faith is in themselves their deeds before men and public baptism. The 5 solas are repugnant to them.
Thanks for following my blog, and for your likes of my posts. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. Please keep up your good work.
These Scriptures are indeed, reason to pause, examine ourselves before it is too late. II Cor. 7 is worth considering.
May God use your post
