Wow, I slept for 15 hours….I guess I’ve been extremely exhausted from the last two weeks of ministry with planning and preaching for our church retreat, officiating the wedding, our ongoing VBS decorations and regular teaching and preaching.
So here’s a lighter post that I wanted to ask readers the following question:
What are you reading from God’s Word during June 2019?
Do share with us, and I hope you sharing would encourage other readers to read God’s Word.
Personally I’m reading slowly through Mark and also I’m reading through some big books that’s been slowing down my book reviews on the blog (I’m also behind on writing book reviews of the works I did finished). I’m reading John Frame’s Systematic Theology, a book on the history of a heretical version of Christianity, an apologetics’ book on the atheism of Richard Dawkins and a book on the Old Testament.
Reading should be a Christian regular habit and ordinary means of grace for sanctification and growth. For a study on reading check out our “Christian Theology on Reading Series– Audio Mp3s and PDF available free.”
Some of the readers of this blog are also authors!
For instance there’s Fran Rogers and I recommend this book.
There’s so many other authors of various genres like Lee Duigon, RG, and David Kitz (see my review here).
So what are you reading from God’s Word during June 2019?
I’m reading through Ezekiel at the moment. Chris Wright’s commentary’s helping me to get my head round the book and really enjoying it.
Also reading the Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jerermiah Burroughs – its really good.
Wow good stuff you are reading! Props to you for reading Ezekiel, it seems many Christians get intimidated by that book. Thanks for that encouragement
Yeah I was a bit intimidated to face reading Ezekiel – but glad I didn’t give up on it. I think I’d probably have got lost a long the way without Wright’s commentary!
Is this the commentary? https://www.amazon.com/Message-Ezekiel-Heart-Spirit-Speaks/dp/0830824251
I’m currently reading through the NT chronologically (finished the OT a couple months back). I also cycle through a few dozen of my memorized verses from the Bible Memory app every day.
God bless you and all the Pastors! You guys really do a lot of work. I have great memories from Campus Crusade in college. It was an awesome time of ministry, but it could also be exhausting. My wife is serving as a kid’s Bible study leader at VBS this summer. Regarding your question, I read all over the Bible every day. I always like reading Romans and Ephesians. Those are good for a new believer to read too. I recommend eating up God’s Word like meals throughout the day. Just like the Lord said, man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. God bless!
Thanks for the encouragement and also glad to hear you share what you are reading! How has your energy level been recently?
Energy has been a lot better, thanks. I appreciate your prayers!
Reblogged this on By the Mighty Mumford and commented:
CURRENTLY IN 2ND KINGS AND THE GOSPEL OF JOHN…!
Thanks for reblogging this and also for sharing what you are reading! 2 Kings is one of the books I want to study this summer along with 1 Kings. The Gospel of John is a great book as well! Again thanks Jonathan!
May His Spirit be your Guide in everything!
I am constantly amazed at how much you are able to do in God’s strength.
I’ve just started 1 Kings, in the Psalms of ascent (123 today) and 2 Timothy…
Nice! You’re the second person commenting reading Kings (the other person was on 2 Kings)! Thanks for sharing I pray this encouraged others to read God’s Word!
Where in 2 Timothy are you?
I’ve finished now, starting Hebrews today. I don’t go in depth tbh, I probably should start studying more deeply!
Reading through Proverbs for the rest of the year. Starting on the Old Testament in January.
Nice! Proverbs is a good book and practical too! I’ve been reading a lot of Old Testament myself this year…
I think an understanding of the Old Testament helps Christians understand the New Testament more deeply.
Good question! I’m going through Mark myself currently. Also reading a so-so examination of Catholicism and book commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Padres. I’ll send you the Padres book when I’m done. 🤣. On deck is an old library book that critically examines the alleged Marian apparition at Lourdes. I recently wrote a draft post about Lourdes that motivated that selection. And finally, one of my sisters just gave me a new book, The First Conspiracy: The Secret Plot to Kill Washington. Sorry, Jimmy, but you already knew you weren’t going to get a short answer from me.
BTW, I’m happy you were able to get some extra rest!
I’m excited and looking forward to your book reviews and I certainly expected a long answer from you. Thanks for the comment about getting rest, I feel so refresh!! I imagine you got a lot of rest after cleaning the roof and drain?
I was a zombie on Sunday but actually got some energy by Sunday afternoon. Got up on the roof yesterday after work and blew out the gutters with my handheld blower because I knew it was going to rain today. The gutters were completely clogged up again with catkins after I only 2 days.
I am reading in Matthew. I love the teachings of our Christ. I am refreshing my mind. 🙂 Thank you for the recommendations.
Glad to hear you are reading Matthew and refreshing your mind! I hope this also encourages others reading your comment to pick up the Word, Amen?
Amen.:)
Currently reading “ Recovering the gospel” (P Washer). Also reading Psalms
and Matthew. Seem to have more time now that I am not working.
Wow nice to hear you reading Washer’s book! And also Scripture; glad to hear you are able to read more; should I pick up praying again for your job situation?
Because of what happened with my job we now have to move to the country . Hubby wants to retire . I am trusting the Lord has a plan for my future wherever He sends me. I am praying for dirección and that we find the right house.
Just prayed for God’s guidance for both you and your husband
Thank you.
Mark in the Holman CSB. With Spurgeon commentary.
Nice! Where in Mark are you?
Mark 10. I should be in Luke soon.
Thank you for the question, Jim. With writing and publishing in addition to other constant duties, my reading for this year is not as broad as usual. The Sovereignty of God by A.W. Pink has been a second reading, but the main meditations have been through paralleling the Gospels, focusing on the words of Christ and comparing the accounts of His life and words.
Isaiah Chapter 53 KJV!! ❤
