This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Sing with Thanksgiving.
When we sing sometimes at church we can go through the motion. But don’forget we are singing to God Himself during our Sunday worship service as part of one way of glorifying God.
Hear Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
The command is clear: You are to be singing “with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Singing is not about pleasing us first. It is about thanking God. Those who are leading us in songs of worship aren’t there to please you first; they are to please God first.
As application pray right now before you even get to church. Pray to God that you would sing to Him in a way that will glorify Him.
Focus on the spiritual truths the song teaches. Songs that has biblical truths will be good for your soul. It will make you love God more if you meditate on it.
Sing. Sing not for someone behind you or next to you. Sing for God. Ask: What truths have you found from the lyrics of songs from Sunday morning that leads you to love Jesus more? Let that fuel how you sing! He is worthy of thanksgiving and praise, Amen?
Reblogged this on a simple man of God.
Amen and Amen !
Now that is a good word! May it be so.
Make a joyful noise!
Amen! I’m someone who usually have a hard time singing so this is preaching to myself! How was your Lord’s Day?
So far so good! Just left morning service. Eat, nap and back this evening
Your post reminds me of making a joyful noise unto the Lord and being able to sing from that place in our hearts, which is a much deeper place, where we are learning how to abide, rest, and to become totally dependant upon Him.
Excellent reminder.
To God be the Glory.:)
Amen! I try to remind our guys at church that we must go to church for God and to glorify God first before anything else. If you can pray for my church’s spiritual growth and my wisdom with shepherding our members.
In prayer. As always.:)
It is longer the Lord’s Day where I live but will apply this next week!
Didn’t get a chance to read this good exhortation until AFTER church service, but I tucked it into my memory banks for next week. When it comes to worshiping the Lord, may we always be on guard against “going through the motions.”
Amen. May we guard against going against the motion. How long did you ended up being at Urgent care for?
Only about a 1/2 hour. I was the only patient there. Good deal.
This is good!
Are worship teams praising God or putting on a concert, hard to tell. Does God or old hippies really need to hear your heavy metal guitar riff? Some congregation applaud the top notch performances, are they applauding God or the band. Why stop there why not applaud the sermons too. Help me out. I cannot remember Paul’s instructions about when to applaud in a church service. Is it a good thing when the world cannot distinguish between church songs and pop music songs. There is no, ( Col. 3:16), admonishing in modern church songs and barely a modicum of teaching if any amongst the emotional pablum.
Is their just too much solid theology in the old hymns for these seeker friendly congregations to comprehend.
If a pastor discovers that it is the music that attracted most of his pew sitters should he be pleased or broken heart-ted.
Perhaps we should have the church greeters go and applaud the Sunday school teachers and ushers as well.
“He does not thank the slave because he did the things which were commanded, does he? Luke 17;9
Sadly during our shallow happy clappy worship time I remain seated open the bible and answer all of the blanks on the sermon notes before the sermon starts. It not hard to do that either.
But my wife loves it therefore that pleases me.
Amen!
Love it. You are speaking my language on this one:)
This is speaking language too!
Praise & Worship is one of the best parts of the service! It’s so joyous to sing with the other brothers and sisters in Christ.
Amen! That’s a worship spirit that honors God! Do you lead worship with your church?
No I don’t, but I did sing in the choir for many years.
Yes! very close to my heart. I sing for praise with all my heart and strength especially on Sundays, although I sometimes need to rest outside before Church Services were over. I love singing praise from hymnal.

What do we sing about with thanksgiving? 1st timothy chapter 4 says
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
