This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Remind someone of our Hope in Christ.
Here’s a passage that stood out to me that led to this application. Hear 1 Peter 1:3: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
In the context this is salutation written by Peter. The main verb here is “blessed” in which Peter is praising God. The reason for praising God include “His great mercy” and that great mercy “caused us to be born again to a living hope.” Did you catch that? It says “living hope.” Living…hope! How do people have this living hope? The last clause of the verse says “through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” But we to trust in Christ. So if we have place our trust in Christ who died and resurrected for saving us from our sins we have hope!
There’s application for us today.
Do you know anyone who is down in your church? It is good to remind them of our hope in Christ. Now we want to be wise in how we share that. But still it is important we encourage others with this hope. Start first by listening. Then when the person is no longer speaking then you share that hope.
But we must also preach that hope to ourselves. Sometimes that means we need to see if we have a misplaced hope in something else other than Christ. We must turn back to Christ. We must be thankful that we have hope in Christ.

Thanks for the good exhortation, brother! We can certainly uplift the brethren by reminding them of our hope in Christ, in good circumstances and challenging ones.
You’re welcome! Its a reminder for me too. What does your Monday look like this week?
Today, I’m going to spend much of the day on “career transition” stuff. I’m getting close to the point of submitting resumes to online job openings.
Reblogged this on a simple man of God and commented:
I was already on my way to church when this was originally posted. After a day of moving to our new (to us) house, and all of the men who came out to help us and pray for our new home.
Then, I was able to encourage some at church with the Church History class I offer each Sunday morning, that it is possible to know truth, defend the truth, and know we are saved (which I get to preach on in three weeks!) in Christ.

Believers need this reminder weekly
Seems I continually find myself preaching to me as much as to my listener.
It’s good that you said we must remind ourselves as well. Sometimes we encourage others with hope in Christ but at times we need to be reminded ourselves too,
Great encouraging post Thank you.
How are you doing?
I am taking one day at a time. Trusting the Lord to take care of me. Coming to terms with the chronic illness God has allowed for me. I have now settled in my apartment.😊Thank you for asking and caring pastor Jim, I pray you and your family are doing well.
In my life group this past week, we studied Isaiah 40. The verses bring out God’s Word which brings comfort and hope to so many. We also explored a couple of connections between these verses and the New Testament.
Wow nice! Isaiah 40 onwards have some incredible future forward looking prophecies. By life group is that the same thing as small group/mid-week Bible study? Or is there more to life group? Asking since I’m new to the phrase
You are correct. It is a church group, which meets once a week. We will be studying more of Isaiah’s verses through Chapter 44. I am looking forward to more.
