Dr. Vern Poythress is one of those incredible intellectual gift to the Church. He’s a Christian professor, a Reformed theologian, New Testament scholar, expert on hermeneutics, linguist, a Presuppositional apologist and philosopher who was a prodigy that went to Cal Tech before he was 18 and have several doctorates including a PhD in Mathematics from Harvard University.
He’s recently was interviewed for a podcast on the Missions Podcast from ABWE International. It’s a wonderful discussion on multiple things I’m excited about: Missions, Language Presuppositional Apologetics and Theology!
The Podcast interview is interesting for his discussion of his background in math, logic and science and also his wife’s experience as a missionary in Asia. In the interview Poythress explain why language itself finds its source in the Trinity, how missionaries should approach language learning, and how missionaries can use presuppositional apologetics in dealing with pagan religious cultures.

I would like to listen to Dr. Poythress but he’s probably way over my head! 🤷🏼♂️
I think his talk he didn’t go over details for the purpose of a general listening audience though I think you would actually like his writings in his book! I do think so. By the way, was thinking of this but been forgetting to ask: Did snow come early for you guys this year? It seems snowing began in October, is that normal for New York?
OK, I’ll put this one in my listening queue! We had our first big snowfall Sunday night/Monday morning. Maybe 10” to 12”s. But I was outside washing windows Monday and today because my wife has way tooooooo much time on her hands. 🥶 Received Sproul’s book on marriage yesterday. I’d start reading it today except my hands are frozen solid. ☃️
Yikes! That’s a lot of snow. You guys get snow earlier and heavier than other parts of the country it seems! I hope you are able to warm up and warm up your hands! That’s a joy to hear you got Sproul’s book. My wife just finished it and she was blessed by it. With all your busyness you must have finished a lot of steps?
RE: snow
It’s hard to believe but Rochester get’s more snow than anywhere in the US because of its unique position near Lakes Erie and Ontario. Thanks! Warmed up now.
Glad you and your wife enjoyed Sproul’s book. I’ll start it after I finish reading the flying holy house book.
With all the window cleaning I didn’t walk much. Had a long stretch on the laptop today looking for jobs. Only 6K steps. How’s your steps look today?
As someone who want to do missions in the near future, I’m downloading this!
