There’s a spiritual point I want to make with this.
This was on the news a few months ago: “Woman disguises 911 call by ordering pizza.”
Here’s the video:
The lady was in a dire abuse situation. So she pretends to call an order for Pizza but was really calling 911 for help. The dispatcher is being praised for listening well.
I thought that’s a lesson to all of us: We got to listen well.
We got to listen well and as a Christian sometimes that means we have to be extra patient with being considerate with the other person is saying.
Those in the ministry need to also pay attention to other signs of trouble. Domestic abuse is real even in the church. A sharp eye and attentive ear goes a long way.
But its not just situation with domestic abuse we need to listen well.
We need to listen well during ordinary fellowship. You show someone you care by listening.
You listen well when you are engaged in biblical counseling. Sometimes listening well allows you to find the root of a person’s problem. You don’t want to go by your assumption that’s unfounded. You want to know what’s really the person’s problem.
You want to listen well in evangelism. That way you can bring the Gospel to bear in a better applicable way.
Even with apologetics you want to listen well; sometimes listening well you notice your opponent provide the very own self-defeating refutation. I know that’s happened a lot of time in my evangelistic discussions with someone hostile towards me and the faith.
You want to listen well to criticism. You want to listen well so you can see if its true and grow and change for the glory of God.
It can be overwhelming with everything I’m saying. But start by listening well to God from His Word. Not that I have arrived for I know there’s a lot God is still working in me, but I found that has helped me to be better at listening to others.
Wow! What a great analogy.
Blessings.

I’ve found the most impactful times in my small time in ministry has come from when I listened to someone and brought it up later and asked how it was going. I could tell that they were surprised and were overjoyed that I had actually listened and remembered. Now I wish I could say that I’m 100% on this with everyone but I’m not unfortunately. God still needs to work on me…. a lot lol. I hope you’re having a great day.
That was very insightful with what you shared. A very good application for Pastors actually. Have a blessed day and thanks for the comment. I was wondering if you still have a website since when I click on your name on the comment it takes me to a link not working
That’s weird. But yes I do. It’s thebiblelife.church
I think I fixed it. Tell me if it’s fixed or not if you can. Haha
He continues until we go home.
Amen. Speaking of listening, how is Danielle?
She is well for now. They now thing she has Lupus. Thank you for your prayers.
Thank you. This helped me be reminded that listening well with whatever people’s saying wonderfully works.
Wow! That was an excellent illustration of your point. Yes, the immediate message is not always the more important underlying message.
Thanks! I find it helpful with dealing with an angry person too to do this…to not focus on their anger but what they were hurt about. Sometimes framing it that way already lower the heat in the conversation. Oh how we need to listen better! What’s the total count with the Kobe post thus far?
Hmm. The Kobe post slowed way down. 163 total views
You have written great posts and all of them are excellent, but this is my favourite. This dispatcher definitely loves his job and is caring. Some people would have just hang up the phone. When he told her that you do not call 911 for pizza you could hear a slight choke in her voice which he picked up immediately. It brought tears to my eyes.
We need to really listen. The older I get the more I realized that in everything you do whether on the job or at church you have to listen keenly. This is how you can also pick up the spirit of a person. The Lord said that we ought to test the spirit. Thank you for sharing.
Sister what an honor it is to know you shared this on Facebook. Like you the more older I get the more I see the importance of really listening to others. Watching this made me think about how easy it would be for anyone to just hang up in the shoes of the dispatcher. O how we need to listen and be slow to “hang up” on others in real life too. Again thank you so much for sharing your experience and spiritual thoughts and also then posting this on Facebook!
It was my pleasure to share. Blessings.
What you have written I stumbled across..now I see why, not that I’m blackened or blue, but bruised in a similar fashion, I’ve just started to write a post or two and help I think is needed?
I shared on my facebook.
Yes! Thank you for this!!!
You’re welcome! Have a blessed day today!
Thank you! You, too!
You have really hit a weakness, I struggle to listen well and then when I hear to interpret correctly what I have heard. Great post
Thank you for this post.
I remember this particular instance. Additionally, you have made a great point.
You know, to link this to current events, this post is the antithesis of the Don Lemon hysterical laughing fit that has been so ridiculed by so many.
Thanks for sharing that. I just pulled your comments out of the spam filter, glad I checked! I don’t trust Don Lemon. I am glad you inform your readers what is going on. So many lies out there today. And people don’t listen to listen…
Well, now we know both how to act and how not to act. Maybe then, we can get on the straight-and-narrow of listening.
Very true.
