A few days ago I wrote “Anti-Christian latest intolerance: Swiss Christian Chocolate Company.”
I had a comment that was left by someone that reeked of self-righteous virtue signaling.
You might have heard about the phenomenon “preaching to the choir.” That’s not as bad as you think. What’s worst is “preaching hell fire brimstone to the choir.” Basically I’m talking about a message that’s not relevant to the person its addressing and while the content might be true for some other audience, it is disturbing for being so angry to the wrong audience.
Enter this troll. I’m struck by how many “I” in his comment. For instance in the first sentence in the comment he said
Fellow Christians do not like me, because I have a habit of speaking the truth about us Christians and Christianity and our hypocrisy on the subject of tolerance.
I admit I already was bracing myself. What a way to open a conversation. It’s almost saying “Hey you too might not like this but its not my problem…” I was bracing myself because some people have a hard time identifying the real root reason why people don’t like them. And those that have the hardest times are those that often are so sure they know why people don’t like them and the reason has nothing to do with them.
His few sentences after that was grammatically awkward. But I’m going to tolerate that (pun intended). Let’s go to the next item of substance…
We decry the radical extremists of other religions, especially Islam, while we fail to call out and decry the radical extremists of our religion Christianity.
We have intolerant Christians during Christmas for example. They demand that private companies like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts put Merry Christmas on their cups, etc. We demand that all towns and cities display Christmas displays of Jesus in chreches, but are intolerant if any other religious, or non-religious group wants to add their idea of the Holiday season to a chreche? Well we Christians meltdown and scream no.
I’m amazed at the comparison. He points out Christians call out the sins of radical Islamists…while Christians also want Starbucks to say Merry Christmas.
I’ve blogged on here before that I don’t really care what Starbucks does nor whether they want or don’t want to say Merry Christmas, I don’t feel its a big deal. But Christians who want Starbucks to say “Merry Christmas” on their cups is a far cry of a comparison to jihadists chopping people’s head from their body or suicide bombing on civilian targets. He’s going to call out Christians for calling out the evil of murder…because some Christians in his word have a “meltdown and scream no” over Starbucks? The elephant in the room and the log in this instance is radical Isalmists not the guy who wants words on his red Starbucks cups. This troll is confusing what’s the speck and what’s the log in people’s eye!
He goes on to write the following:
Historically? Protestant and Catholic Christians were intolerant towards Pagans, Jews, Native Americans, Africans and many others. Heck, honestly? In our intolerance of them? Of our thinking we were superior to them? We brutally murdered them, enslaved them, tortured and brutalized them. And we as Christians? Have to in fact? Recognize this, accept it, and change it to where this never happens again in the name of Jesus and Christianity.
I admit there are Christians and people who call themselves Christians that have done some evil things in the name of Christianity. I have been willing to own up that those who are Reformed historically isn’t perfect here in this area either. But I’m weary of those who hijack a post that focus on an evil done CURRENTLY to then talk about a wrong done in the past. Some people have a hobby horse of carrying out a single topic conversation even if it goes tangent from what others are talking about. As an analogy it’s as if a modern Japanese American individual was talking about the current horrors in North Korea only for someone to say “Hey, what about you guys in World War Two?” The Japanese guy says “Yeah, Japan was wrong, but I had nothing to do with it, I’m a third generation Japanese American and the conversation was about North Korea right now…” Then the guy tells the Japanese American “you know, most Japanese don’t like me since I have a habit of telling the truth about what Japanese done wrong….” And the Japanese American guy is frustrated but the guy sees that and thinks that’s further affirmation he’s right.
Again I’m not denying people have done bad things in the name of Christianity. But if you read his blog I found it troubling how he blames every Christians for it. That’s not right. Here’s a quote from his blog:
I realize how Christianity rose to power. That all of the denominations are guilty of these Crimes Against Humanity. That if only Christianity had not rose to power on slaughter, on brutality, on torture, on forced conversions of others.
Here he’s saying all denominations are guilty of Crimes against Humanity. He’s specific to say these crimes involve slaughter, torture and forced conversions. This is a big claim. Is it true all denominations of Christians have done those acts? The burden of proof is on him for such a large assertion. But its also obviously factually wrong. There’s some Christian denominations that are pacifistic; they don’t slaughter by definition. Some denominations stress free will and aren’t out to force any conversions. Even still there are those denominations that don’t believe in libertarian free will that don’t force conversions either since they believe its God’s job to open hearts to believe in the truth, and that’s not the job of believers. Then there’s newer denominations that has a short history; certainly we can look at those groups and know they haven’t commit crime against humanity of murder and torture. But I’m digressing. Don’t forget the burden of proof is on him to prove ALL denominations sinned in this way.
After talking negatively about how bad other Christians are I’m intrigued that he then talks about himself; and here he’s virtue signalling:
I abide by Jesus greatest commandment to live my life, including loving ALL my neighbors, be they homosexuals, Muslims, Native Americans, Pagans, Jews, or what have you.
Talk about showboating his self-righteousness. Guest what buddy: I genuinely strive for that too. I imagine many of the Christian readers here too. We treat all people including nonbelievers with respect since they are made in the image of God. It’s as if he thinks most people who profess to be Christians are torturing and slaughtering people. Its scary how he thinks. Scarier to then see him brag about he’s so different and so superior than other Christians. Quite ironic actually and hypocritical of him.
There’s so much more I want to say. Readers might also want to read my “Responding to Objection against Christianity: Religion causes problems”
Very well said. Thanks for bringing this to light. Blessings.
Yup, the blogger at jesuschristandgospels makes sweeping, broad-brush, condemnatory statements and doesn’t seem to know the difference between Gospel Christianity and historical institutional Christendom. That’s not to say that all genuine believers conducted themselves well at all times throughout history. But the Bible certainly exhorts us to be discerning and judge righteously as with the situation with Läderach and Swiss Airlines. I appreciated your analogy. The blogger at jesuschristandgospels advocates that all Christians must be quiet in the face of evil and intolerance because some faux-(c)hristians (and even some genuine believers) acted intolerantly in the past? Silly.
You hit it on the nail here: “ The blogger at jesuschristandgospels advocates that all Christians must be quiet in the face of evil and intolerance because some faux-(c)hristians (and even some genuine believers) acted intolerantly in the past? Silly.” You captured the gist of my concern in a succinct fashion! Also I notice there’s no compassion from him for the Christians whose Swiss company keep on getting vandalized. So for all his glowing term about how he’s loving he certainly is not very compassionate but it’s a soap box for him to talk of his favorite subject even when it’s tangent. How’s the lobster in the car??
I appreciated your rebuttal. I get a bit perturbed when unknowledgeable folks attribute the wrongs of institutional, faux-(c)hristianity to believers.
Ha! That lobster tail was “rock” solid when I “fished” it out of the car this morning, as expected. You need to get out of that debilitating, malaria-inducing, So Cal climate and catch the next plane to ROC! It’s an invigorating 10F right now!
Hi Jim, If I hear one more “Christian” declare that what they do is declare “the truth” and because they are declaring “the truth”, that absolves them from making accusations without providing documented evidence that supports their accusations or it absolves them from addressing others who may oppose their logic or thinking, in a respectful and tolerant manner, I’m going to get out a pair of scissors, cut my suspenders and literally go through the roof. Well, maybe not go through the roof, but definitely hover. I cannot comprehend how anyone who is a student of God’s Word, can possibly justify that speaking their perception of “the truth” gives them the automatic right to demean, disrespect, make automatic assumptions or infer that anyone who holds a view, contrary to theirs, is not worthy of, at a bare minimum, common decency and respect. There is absolutely nothing wrong in making a case for the supposition or belief that one adheres to or believes in but holding that supposition or belief does not give anyone the right to treat another human being in a manner that portrays the other as vermin. It also should be noted that when a Christian makes a statement that infers that what is being spoken of “may” be applicable to some Christians, or that there is a possibility that that one “may” inadvertently be implicit, it does NOT mean that it IS applicable and it does NOT mean that they ARE implicit and to automatically assume that applicability or implicitly, quite possibly goes against the stated intent of the writer. When we become so thin skinned that even the mere inference to a POSSIBILITY of applicability or implicitly, MAY be justified, something is dreadfully wrong. I can’t find any scripture that says “love your enemy but go ahead and speak of them or treat them like vermin”. There is a distinct difference between discrediting or disproving opposing doctrines, viewpoints or perspectives and character assassination.
I’m not criticizing your response to this comment by one of your readers, I thought your observations were valid and I’m still having a problem locating any validation for the “thousands” of Pastors and Ministers who advocate death for homosexuals, as the commentator inferred. The words that caught my attention from the commentator was “the truth”. Sorry for the rant, thought I would throw my two cents in due to recent exchanges that I have been involved in where I had to rethink how I addressed others. Have a blessed day Jim!
I agree with your comment. It’s amazing how comments allows platform for some who go tangent, slander and even misinformation like the one you pointed out. And they can point to themselves as loving but what’s missing is any love and compassion for Christians who are getting their property vandalized and their means of living being threatened. But they drown that out because other Christians were not loving. The hypocrisy I think he’s blind to because he feels so self righteous that he’s not like the majority of Christians. I’m learning this too and I think you would agree that self righteousness can blind us to the degree we pride ourselves in our self righteousness, amen?
Absolutely, and I know that first hand. Amen.
Let not your left hand know what your right hand is doing is what comes to mind with his boasting of his righteousness. But, we can all be guilty of being self-righteous sometimes.
Still, this guys sounds like a real nut job.
Amen. The guy was also commenting against your brother but he does a good job holding his own. Yay for your brother, yeah?
What, J-M?
At least some of his comments were in conversation with me.

Agh, hard to read this self righteous assault on the Body of Christ. This venomous vein of thinking leans toward indicting God Himself for His “crimes against humanity” such as obliterating the Amalakites.
This prideful attitude is one of many that will churn and culminate ecumenically against the Body of Christ…joining the all-inclusive one world religion.
I wonder whose truth is he spouting? His version of the truth? Sola Scriptua is the only truth.
Wow I’m encouraged to see you know sola Scriptura. Amen! Do you know the five Solas?
No. Not as such. Please teach me.:)
Jihadist terrorism and Christians boycotting Starbucks are not the same thing. Apples and oranges. Good point and I read the original comment too and he seems mentally unstable.
Seems that this fellow may be one of those folks who use this argument to justify his lack of attending church (of one denomination or other).
Guys like the one you describe do make arguments like that. Praying for you to have strength for today brother RG!
Thanks so much, Jim!
I did not know that you are a pastor!
Yes! I’ve been pastoring since you were 9! Or 8…depending on when’s your date of birth
WOW! So your super spiritual. Amazing!

Excellent response! Reading his blog, he’s a full-on nutcase. A Christian running an anti-Christian blog!
Quite a contradiction…
[…] Earlier during the month I wrote a post “Anti-Christian latest intolerance: Swiss Christian Chocolate Company.” I had an interesting troll in the comments who claimed to be a Christian fighting against other Christians for “intolerance.” I responded in a post here: Calling out a Drive-By Virtue-Signaling Troll. Good job nailing that troll! He must be fuming after this!
You left him in the dust there. Brutal logic.
What’s up?
I found this article very interesting…please read!
Do you remember the blockbuster hit film The Matrix that was released in 1999? You may not know this, but it has deep spiritual implications concerning the times we are living in and Bible prophecy.
It tells a story of how these “agents” are trying to turn us into machines. We are closer then ever before for this to become a reality when they cause us to receive an implantable microchip in our body during a time when physical money will be no more.
You may have seen on NBC news concerning the implantable RFID microchip that some people are getting put in their hand to make purchases, but did you know this microchip matches perfectly with prophecy in the Bible?
“He (the false prophet who deceives many by his miracles) causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name…
You also may have heard of the legendary number “666” that people have been speculating for possibly thousands of years on what it actually means. This article shares something I haven’t seen before, and I don’t think there could be any better explanation for what it means to calculate 666. This is no hoax. Very fascinating stuff!
…Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666″ (Revelation 13:16-18 NKJV).
“Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name” (Revelation 14:9-11).
In the Islamic religion they have man called the Mahdi who is known as their messiah of whom they are waiting to take the stage. There are many testimonies from people online who believe this man will be Barack Obama who is to be the biblical Antichrist based off dreams they have received. I myself have had strange dreams about him like no other person. So much so that I decided to share this information.
He came on stage claiming to be a Christian with no affiliation to the Muslim faith…
“In our lives, Michelle and I have been strengthened by our Christian faith. But there have been times where my faith has been questioned — by people who don’t know me — or they’ve said that I adhere to a different religion, as if that were somehow a bad thing,” – Barack Obama
…but was later revealed by his own family members that he indeed is a devout Muslim.
So what’s in the name? The meaning of someones name can say a lot about a person. God throughout history has given names to people that have a specific meaning tied to their lives. How about the name Barack Obama? Let us take a look at what may be hiding beneath the surface…
“And He (Jesus) said to them (His disciples), ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven'” (Luke 10:18).
In the Hebrew language we can uncover the meaning behind the name Barack Obama.
Barack, also transliterated as Baraq, in Hebrew is: lightning
baraq – Biblical definition:
From Strongs H1299; lightning; by analogy a gleam; concretely a flashing sword: – bright, glitter (-ing, sword), lightning. (Strongs Hebrew word H1300 baraq baw-rawk’)
Barak ‘O’bamah, The use of bamah is used to refer to the “heights” of Heaven.
bamah – Biblical definition:
From an unused root (meaning to be high); an elevation: – height, high place, wave. (Strongs Hebrew word H1116 bamah baw-maw’)
The day following the election of Barack Obama (11/04/08), the winning pick 3 lotto numbers in Illinois (Obama’s home state) for 11/5/08 were 666.
Obama was a U.S. senator for Illinois, and his zip code was 60606.
Seek Jesus while He may be found…repent, confess and forsake your sins and trust in the savior! Jesus says we must be born again by His Holy Spirit to enter the kingdom of God…God bless!
Unlike the troll I see people have benefited from your writing. Cheers
