Thanks for these. Look forward to learning more. Blessings.
You’re welcome. Is your state having any plans to open up soon? Seems ours want to extend things into August!
I saw that about California and LA in particular. Wow!
Our Governor (NC) is moving very slowly. We are still in a stay at home order and can’t have gatherings of more than 10 people. That blew all of our onsite programs out of the water. We’ve moved online but that has a lot of limits. The next phase may go higher than 10 people but we won’t know for several weeks yet.
We’ve only had 3 total cases in our county so we are very safe.
God is good and in a good mood.
Thank you for these links, Jim! GOD bless you and your family!
You’re welcome. Wow I am reading on the news Vongfong has wind as strong and as fast as 155 KM per hour. That is very strong and unimaginable to me. I am praying for the safety of you and your family.
Thank you very much for your prayers, Jim! I really appreciate it, thinking how many vulnerable people will be affected in the midst also of covid19. Thank GOD, the storm weakened before it reached the more densely populated capital. I’m still don’t know impact yet.
I’ve been noticing Eli has been having a lot of heavy hitters for his interviews!
Thanks for the presup. inks. I took my wife to an appointment today and sat in the car and listened to “Ep. 51 – J. Warner Wallace Interview – Part 1,” which was buried in the “3.) Why God is Still the Best Explanation for Objective Moral Truths (Video) — Cold Case Christianity” article.
When apologists start naming names, my ears perk up as you know. In the interview, JWW refers to Lee Strobel as a big influence as well as Frank Turek. We all know Strobel is outspoken in his embrace of Roman Catholicism as a Christian entity, as evidenced by the many favorable references to Catholicism and Catholic apologists in his books. I wasn’t as familiar with Turek so I googled “Frank Turek Catholic” and found his 4-minute You Tube video which includes the statement that the difference between the Catholic understanding of justification and the evangelical understanding is “a secondary difference.” Also in the video, Turek presents the classic evangelical ecumenist non sequitur, arguing that just like attending a Baptist church doesn’t make anyone a Christian, attending a Catholic church doesn’t make anyone a non-Christian. In my google search I also discovered that Turek, like Strybel, had been mentored by Norman Geisler. I also found that Strobel once worked directly for Rick Warren’s Saddleback church and for Bill Hybel’s Willow Creek church, which explains a lot.
As far as I could find, JWW hasn’t referred to Catholicism since his 2014 article critical of Purgatory. Maybe I’m wrong, but from what I can see the only “popular” Christian apologist who takes a strong stand against ecumenism with Rome is James White. There was a shift in popular Christian apologetics that began several decades ago with Walter Martin, AWAY FROM confronting Catholicism’s false gospel TO embracing Catholicism as an ally against atheism.
You need to write a new post concerning pop Apologist flirtation with Romanism. What do you think? I would link it for the round up. You’ve done a good search. It is rather frustrating. Take Turek; sometimes he present arguments that is Presuppositionalist-ish. Then you hear some unbiblical thing he says like what you referred to. I think though Wallace is the more solid ones of the group. He’s spoken out against doctrinal errors of religious groups that’s not biblical. I think besides Purgatory he’s talked about a few other doctrinal distinctive of Romanism in the past too right from my hazy memory. I commend him for that. He’s very gifted in communicating. I also am thankful for his appreciation enough to share Reformed and Presuppositional resources. I’m praying for him actually.
RE: post concerning pop Apologist flirtation with Romanism
Excellent idea!
I’m not very familiar with JWW other than his Purgatory article, but at least he’s not enthusiastically embracing the RCC like Craig, Strobel, Turek, McDowell, Zacharias, and Nancy Pearcy, so yes, we must pray for him, especially seeing he’s employed by the Colson Center. Speaking of Zacharias, I see he has terminal cancer, which I’ll be sadly mentioning in tomorrow’s roundup.
