Thank you for this set of links, Jim! GOD bless you and your family!
You’re welcome! Thanks for the blessing, I hope you and your family is doing well too; is it monsoon season for you guys?
Yes, Jim! So, timely! It was mentioned in the evening local news that tomorrow is the start of the “Habagat” or wet monsoon; although rainy months have started last month.
I’ve listened to all of Greg Bahnsen’s many debates over and over again and the one with George Smith is one of the better debates. Greg was such a commanding debater that he rolled over most (but all the debates are still excellent!), but George Smith really makes an attempt.
Regarding Fesko’s book, it’s the highest of ironies that the SoCal chapter of Westminster Theological Seminary has the corpus of Van Til’s manuscripts/work and yet have nothing to do with them.
The reviewer seems to think that Presupp Apologetics has fallen on hard times and that the classical method is due for a resurgence; but, this is like trying to state that the two different methods are like “fashion statements”. Presupp Apologetics will always be the true Reformed apologetics because it assumes the truth of Scripture from the get-go – just like Jesus and the Apostles assume it from the get-go.
On the other hand, the traditional method tries to begin reasoning from outside the Scripture (which isn’t possible) to reason to God/Scripture (which only results in probability and not assurance). In addition, evidential apologetics isn’t prepared to challenge the unbeliever’s philosophy of facts if they disagree.
The two methods aren’t “fashion statements” – there is a gigantic difference between the two.
I think the author would agree with you it isn’t fashion statements. He could have worded it better. By the way the Bahnsen and George Smith debates is one that is less known by others and I totally enjoy that debate too! Have you heard all of Bahnsen’s debates? Which is your favorite?
I like the Stein debate as it was Greg’s first but he really made hay pushing that the laws of logic don’t make sense in the atheists worldview.
The George Smith is great.
The debate with R. C. Sproul is just outstanding as well.
…and yes, I managed to track down all of his debates. Oh, the one on gun control is good and hilarious!
Glad to see these links
Reblogged this on My Logos Word.
Looking forward to Anderson on TAG and other worldview issues.
Blessings.
Thanks for another presup listing. I’m going to listen to the James Anderson interview tomorrow and I’m hoping he can make sense of it for a Theology 101 guy. 😞
You’re welcome! How is your Monday going?
My big event yesterday was trying to fix a leaky bathroom sink faucet. Plumbing is not one of my favorites. After a couple of wrong turns I was able to buy the right part and fix the leak. How was your “day off” yesterday?
Thank you pastor Jim.
