Someone in a social media group said this:
Please CONTRIBUTE TO A LIST here of “conversation starter comments or questions” for those of us who enjoy spiritually fruitful and engaging conversations with non-believers and/or nominal-believers (those who would identify as christian), but often struggle to get such conversations started due to being introverted and/or somewhat socially awkward.
Here’s my answer, which is presented below:
1. How are you?
2. Would you consider yourself spiritual?
3. What do you think about the things of God?
4. What is your spiritual influence and why?
5. Who do you think Jesus is?
6. Do you think you are a good person according to God’s Law? (Then use Ray Comfort’s Way of the Master)
7. Have you read the Bible before?
8. What’s your favorite book?
9. Who do you think is the most important person in history and why?
10. If you summarized what Jesus in the Bible is about, what would you say?
11. Have you ever thought about how quick life goes by?
12. Where would you go when you die?
13. How do you think people go to heaven?
14. How may I pray for you?
15. Have anyone ever talked to you about Jesus and what did they say? Do you think what they said is what the Bible says?
16. And…”by what standard?”
So readers: What would you add to the list of questions?
Thanks for the excellent resource! Blessings.
Do you absolutely know for sure you have the Holy Spirit living within you ?? Romans 8:16. Does He speak to you ??
Blessings in Christ, bruce
That’s a good one
Thank you for this thorough conversational guide, Jim! This is sufficient already! But as requested, here are my inputs (probably between 1 & 2) in no given order:
• How do find the recent movie/musical/song/gadget?
• Do you feel something is missing in your life?
• Do you have fears? What makes you anxious about the future?
• What are the things that you rely/on?
• Do you believe that someone is in control of these things we are dependent on (e.g. Oxygen)?
I’ve seen some who are doing this in the malls and I have only tried to witness once with an RC friend and he freaked out. So those above are never tested.
Wow those are good questions! Some questions might freak people out but that’s ok! Then the next person might really have a good Gospel conversation from the same question! For Philippines when do you guys celebrate independence?
Thank you, Jim! Technically our independence days are July 4 (from the US in 1946) and June 12 (from Spain in 1898). Official celebration is on June 12.
I’m going to use the question about something missing in your life with family and friends for the 4th of July
I love question 16. Laughed because you are a pesuppositionalist.
Thanks for this good listing! One that’s similar to #s 12 and 13 is:
If you died and stood before God and He asked you, “Why should I allow you into Heaven?” what would you say?
That’s a good one! How’s your 4th going thus far?
Had a busy day up until an hour ago, but now it’s…ah…sitting on the back patio in the shade and reading! Have you got your fireworks primed and ready to go for tonight? 💥🧨💥

Helpful for my evening tonight celebrating Independence day!
Hey, Jim. This fits with by what standard…but in light of all that is going on I ask unbelievers and young folks, “whose social?” Whose social is defining justice? How does seeking justice for all differ from seeking social justice? How does God define justice? How does God respond to injustice? My other question belonging to the by what standard category is whose truth? Who owns the media outlet you are listening to, watching, reading? How do you know when someone is telling you the truth? Is Truth more of a feeling than an absolute? Thanks Jim for this post! Happy 4th!
Good questions! What are you doing for the 4th? I’m busy sermon prepping
Painted and worked on house. Hopefully we will start moving in Wednesday. I will NEVER rip up tile again. That was brutal! My right hand still hurts! What are you preaching?
Do you have a personal connection to God? What has He been telling you?
Your post just made me think of a “quiz” I used to introduce youth to the idea of the value of Scripture, followed by giving them each a copy. I am going to post it next week. Thanks for the idea!
I guess I should answer your question … One thing I have done when in an elevator at Christmastime (with only a few seconds) is ask “So…what are you giving Jesus for His birthday?” There’s usually an awkward silence, but then when they ask what He wants, I’ll say, “He wants you.” Not a complete presentation of the gospel, but a way to “plant seeds” when there isn’t much time.
Wow that’s pretty witty. Have anyone said anything back as a response of you doing this? That’s a good one!
Very good.
Thank you Maw Maw. Hope your 4th went well?
Yes. Very nice. Blessings, Sweetie.
Excellent list! I would add something about forgiveness: Have you ever given or received forgiveness? How did it feel?
Reblogged this on a simple man of God and commented:
I like this list. Especially starting with “How are you?” Or something similar. I say especially, but I just like keeping it personal and personable. I also like how people like Ray Comfort and Todd Friel ask questions about people’s lives to make it more real and personal.
Daniel
Excellent list! Thank you for sharing.

Always good to use questions
