Our “This Sunday” series will be another a Corona Virus edition. For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Pray for people affected by Hurricanes.
I read on the news about Hurricane Laura that struck Texas and Louisiana:
Laura was the first major hurricane to make landfall this season, barreling into western Louisiana with 150 mph winds early Thursday morning. One of the strongest hurricanes on record to strike the United States, Laura was blamed for six deaths in Louisiana.
“Laura rapidly intensified by a remarkable 65 mph in just 24 hours on August 26,” wrote Weather Underground co-founder Jeff Masters in his column for Yale Climate Connections. “That ties Hurricane Karl of 2010 for fastest intensification rate in the Gulf of Mexico on record.”
Wow 150 miles wind. Crazy that its the strongest hurricane that struck the US. I imagine there be more deaths reported. I think its worth praying for people in these areas affected by the storm. Also pray for the people’s recovery from these affected areas; its already been a tough year with the virus and the political unrest.
Pray for people to come to know Him too at this time.

Praying for the US, Jim, as a Haiyan type of Super Typhoon/Hurricane is there. Praying for the 1) affected individuals/communities that they will be safe and alright, 2) response/USAR/WASAR teams that they will make good tactical decisions and be protected from this hazard, and 3) FEMA, local governments, and those operating the EOCs as they plan or follow their respective EOP/Recovery Plan,
Thank you for your prayers. Wow seems from the acronyms you used you are really familiar with Government relief and response for natural disaster…
Yes, Jim, it used to be my line work i.e. disaster risk management planning. We will be praying also for stronger faith and Godly insight in this disaster for those affected. Btw, there is no such thing as a natural disaster, only a natural hazard. A hazard like a category 5 typhoon/hurricane/cyclone does no damage and casualty on the ocean and deserted land. Disaster comes when there are damages and casualties. And the higher the vulnerabilities (e.g. poor planning, lacking of resources to respond, and area is high risk), and the stronger the hazard the likelihood it is a “disaster.”
Kent, that’s a fascinating thought! I will say “natural hazard” from now on!
Thank you, Mandy! That is just the common explanation from the field of DRM. “Natural” are the geological and mereorological hazards.
Thanks for this good exhortation! I will pray for the folks who were impacted by the hurricane. I saw some people interviewed on the news whose homes were completely destroyed by the winds and water. There’s no secure place in this world other than our God.
2020 has shown us how insecure things is in the world. I’m praying for Bonnie as she lives in Louisiana. I’m hoping and praying we hear from her, that she’s ok. Let us pray!
I’ll be praying for Bonnie. Her WordPress activity has gone way down recently, even before the hurricane.
🙏 I’m praying.🙏
Aww praise God. Anything I can pray for you for Lesley?
Something that’s on my heart so much, Jim, and I pray continually about (as well as God’s Kingdom) is the way animals are treated in our world. We live in the countryside and it breaks my heart whenever I see a truck taking the cattle and sheep off to the abattoir. It’s pitiful to see their little faces peering out of the gaps in the truck. Please pray for God’s Creation to be restored to how it was when He first created it. I know He’s working on this as attitudes towards eating meat, etc. are beginning to change.
Thank you!
We are praying! Blessings.
Reblogged this on a simple man of God.
Praying !
There is so much to be praying about these days, Pastor Jim. Thank you for this post.
Would you do me a favor? The next time you make a comment on Dan C’s “The Battle Cry,” would you let him know that I’ve made several attempts in recent months to leave a comment on his blog. For whatever reason, they do not post. I know the problem is on my end but on another blog my comments are now working.
Thank you and God’s blessings…
(I hope this comment takes.)
