Have you had an encounter with the World Mission Society Church of God? You might not recognize the name but then again you might have encountered them since they are better known as the “Mother God cult.” If you have met them you will know this group which is unbiblical is very aggressive to reach out to people for converts.
In the past I’ve run into them while evangelizing on colleged campuses. I would try to find if there’s any information about them online about 10 years ago and I haven’t found much information so this series is helpful.
Christian apologist Mike Winger has been interviewed in Apologetics Studio. It is a two part series and each is about an hour plus long. Check them out below!
I hope this helps equip people.
This is a new one on me.
There’s so many groups out there…but I shared this as I have been seeing them more and more on college campuses with a big following: I do a lot of campus evangelism for years before the virus hit. I think you’ve written on some cults over the years on your blog too yeah?
All this is a one large spiritual whack-a-mole. When you feel you’ve learned enough to counter one, there are three or four more!
I haven’t come across them, Jim, but I’ll make a note of it and make time to watch the videos later tonight.
Seems cults like to spread everywhere including worldwide. I imagine the UK has its share of groups like the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses?
Hi Jim. I googled this cult and it has ‘churches’ in three of our larger cities in the u.k. as well! I’ve watched most of the first video and their theology seems really mixed up. Like the speaker in the film said, it’s as if they make it up as they go along.
Thanks! I have not heard of this World Mission Society Church of God. I will listen to these while walking and cutting the lawn today. There is so little warning about false teachers and false gospels in “evangelical” churches today and the sheep are eager to embrace EVERYONE who names Christ.
You’re right about that.
👍🏻
How did your bIrthday go yesterday?
Hey, it was really nice! Thanks for asking!! How are you and the family? How is the smoke in your area?! In my area of PA for the past 5 days we have had haze in the morning from the fires.
Yeah there’s less teaching on false teachings today. Maybe sometime in 2021 I might cover cults in our Tuesday night study. For now we just started our leadership series. Do you normally listen using an ear piece?
I listened to the first video this morning on my walk and while driving to a few places. Yup I usually listen with my cheap blue tooth ear buds. What a whacky cult with the phony “mother god” former mistress. Total mind and behavior control. I noticed there were lots of references to Walter Martín in the video. It’s good that Martin took such a strong stand against the small cults, but regrettable that he gave a pass (relatively speaking) to the RCC.
Searching for this cult in the web, Jim, I found a reddit post showing that they do exist in the Philippines. Well, there are many Koreans in country so chances are there is a church somewhere. There method of sharing seems like that of JW though much sophisticated a bit. I’ll watch these videos soon to know more just in case they too will join the JW in touring in this community. Here is the link to the article that I found.

Wow they are operating in the Philippines. Seems they are trying to be living up to their name of worldwide. Thanks for the link. Concerning JW in the Philippines do they go door to door evangelizing by knocking on doors to talk like they do in the US?
They do it like the electrolux ad in the 80s i.e. knock on doors, ring out the bells, and tap on the windows too. There was one instance that even in a Christmas party on the park, an old woman tried to disuade us on the Godhood of JESUS referring to Philippians 2:6. Since then in less than 10 times they came, after their “intro” I asked one question i.e. do you believe JESUS is GOD. They don’t answer, they disappered and a new pair comes to visit again. For that reason, a verse series started way back in April was devoted on JESUS as GOD.
Hmm … don’t know anything about them. Thanks for the alert. I’ll try to learn more.
Blessings.
Thank you for information.
You’re welcome, I hear there’s another storm heading to you guys??
Yes. but will come as a tropical storm here. Possible flooding. We are watching closely.
I encountered them a while back. They didn’t mention the church they were with. They sent a 18-20 year female to approach me. From what I was wearing, they assumed I was ex-military. One of their target groups. She started the spiel with a comment about there are many different names of God. This was about 10 PM at my local convenience store. She invited me to an evening Bible study. I declined. I asked if she had a card. She had to ask someone else and gave me a tract with the name. They purchased a closed down United Methodist building. After seeing the name, I researched them online and saw they like to encourage people to stay for late-night Bible studies where they believe they can wear the person down and get them to join the group. It sounds like they get you to give them all your money.
In my research, it appears the founder was supposedly Jesus came back to Earth. When he died, the story was he had to go back to Heaven.
Wow crazy in Kansas they exist! Was the lady Asian? Here in California they are largely Asian though it’s getting more ethnically mixed
No, they were mostly white with an occasional African-American in the mix. The fact they never identified the denomination made me leery. I wasn’t familiar with the group and had they said Church of God when mentioning the denomination, I might have thought it was one of Church of God or COGIC groups. About the only groups we don’t have in the area are a couple of the Mormon sub-groups. We have Mormons and Reformed Mormons. In terms of other religious groups we have a wide variety. In visiting cemeteries, I noticed some reversed swastikas that belong to one of the Asian religions, a couole military headstones with different Native American symbols, and a couple of atheism symbols.
Haven’t heard of them.
Thank you for the information
You’re welcome. I suspect you will eventually run into this “Mother god” cult as they are active in Australia and they are zealous to spread their message…
I must become familiar with this cult so we can be ready.
