Yesterday Apologetics Central. a South Africa ministry posted this video refuting a famous (or shall I say infamous) essay titled “Why I am not a Christian.” This essay was originally a speech delivered by atheist Bertrand Russell and the speech was turned into a pamphlets that has gone through various printings.
Since this essay’s arguments is seen so often among those who object to Christianity a response to the essay might be helpful. Furthermore it is a good opportunity to see a critique from a Presuppositional Apologetics’ perspective.
The discussion is almost two hours long.
So here’s the video:
Thanks for sharing this great resource. Blessings.
Thanks for the video! I enjoyed the first hour of the discussion re: Russell and will listen to the second half later today. I read Russell’s “Why I Am Not A Christian” in 1982 right before I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior.
Wow did a friend give it to you, or you found It in the library? Or something else?
I saw it at a secular bookstore. I mentioned I was reading the book to a Christian friend at work and he asked to read it but returned it the next day saying it was too “blasphemous.” I forgot about the details of Russell’s arguments prior to this video, but I do recall not being impressed. I completed about an hour of the video and will finish it tomorrow. I’m enjoying the examination.
I’ll have to TRY to listen to this!
Saved for later. Thanks.
You’re welcome, hope you are doing well and away from any hurricane
Little rain and little wind. My community has been blessed with no destruction from any of these storms so far. Season isn’t over but Thank You Lord.
Thanks for sharing! This is really important. If we’re debating with others who are not Christians, we need to be understanding where they are coming from, and not make the assumptions about what others may be thinking. But definitely these arguments are pretty common among atheists or others who are not Christians (at least from what I’ve experienced), so for sure I’ll be watching this a few times haha. God bless!
Thanks Zoe (I’m assuming that is your name) for watching this! I like your blog being called Introverted Evangelist!
That’s my name haha! Thanks for posting the video, super valuable. Also thanks for liking the blog name, I was surprised to find no other evangelist blogs called that
I love the dice analogy in the middle of the video, going to use that for the next time I talk to someone!

His name seems familiar and maybe I’ve encoutered his name in a textbook. I’ll continue watching your presentation tomorrow, Jim! Thank you for sharing; this is an important subject/information for me. GOD bless you and your family!
Maybe he’s cited in a symbolic logic class or philosophy? Or was it in history and government which is your area of study, with how he’s a pacifist? I think Russell is brilliant but simplistic with understanding and defining Christianity. Thanks for watching it thus far! Have a blessed sleep brother!
Just to add, good point in 21:00-22:00. It seems (for now), his understanding on what Christianity is, is simplistic. This reminded me of a Philo teacher in college who was also an atheist. Continuing this tomorrow.
Online atheists still misrepresent the first cause argument just like Bertrand Russell. Some things don’t change
Thanks for this, Jim! I have to watch my data cap, but I’ll try to come back to it when I can watch a longer video.
RG, knowing your data cap, to see you comment on here regularly is something I appreciate and treasure brother. Like a lot!
🙂
Thank you for sharing this clip SlimJim and for constantly pointing others to Christ ☺️
Saved it to listen during the week.
Thank you

Its fascinating to hear of the many errors Russell commits in just a few paragraphs of his essays! Hope there can be a part 2
Good video
