Our “This Sunday” series will be another a Corona Virus edition. For this week: Pray for the Election.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 states
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity
I know there’s disagreements about the election even among genuine Christians especially when we get more into the details and I’m not going to make this into a debate post on the Lord’s Day. But believers can unite in one thing: praying for those who are in authority and also who will be in authority. Verse here states that clearly we should be praying. In America of course presidents are voted in every four years. So we should pray not only for the president but also for the process of voting for the president. Pray for the voters to be informed, that Christians vote from biblical values and God gives wisdom to all, Christians and non-Christians.
1 Timothy 2 also reveal precisely why we pray for those in authority has to do with our walks with God (v.2). It is so that we live a life in all godliness. But that presupposes we are striving towards godliness and dignity. Brothers and sisters are you?
Let us pray and let us pursue sancitifcation even in the midst of 2020.
[…] Pray for the Election […]
Praying for GOD’s elect worldwide and the American election, Jim! Whatever the result will be, GOD is sovereign and in control of His plans and purposes.
I’m so glad God is in control, we as Christians have assurance and a firm foundation no matter what happens! This is true with international relations and foreign relations and not just with national politics, amen? Magandang Gabi =)
Yes, good evening it is. True, Jim GOD is in control of all His creation including our world and its affairs. Guess what, there is another storm in country. Probably in the same path with the other one days ago.
Prayer and not polls is the source of power that will decide the election. Non-christians may scoff at the idea but a united effort of believers across the world can decide the next president. Not just Americans but across the whole globe, there are no borders in His Kingdom! As you correctly say our prayers should be of sanctification, not just for ourselves but for those in Government and especially for the presidential candidates. In a recent sermon H.B. Charles puts it simply as “praying to know God better,” what a great guiding definition!
Wow you have been listening to H.B Charles? Was it one or more sermons??
I have listened to the one sermon twice, it is so good. I am thankful for your recommendation of him in your book review.
[…] The Church during the days of Corona Virus: Pray for the Election — The Domain for Truth […]
We are praying for God’s will to be done here on earth like it is in heaven. Jesus is in charge. We are focused on His Kingdom.
Thanks for your faithfulness. We join your church today as we all pray.
Blessings.
Thanks for the exhortation, brother! Yes, we must pray for “all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity,” and as you point out, that presupposes we are striving towards godliness and dignity.
I felt we shouldn’t miss the holiness component of the reason for that prayer! What does you Sunday looks like any time with family over or visiting the canal?
I’m just doing little things today – the bills, the wash, etc., and definitely plan to do some reading.
I know you’re busy today and hope yours is a blessed Lord’s Day!
I’m praying that God’s will be done whatever the outcome. 🙏
Aww thank you for praying even though you are over at the UK!
Hi Jim, I think which leaders we have can have an effect on the whole world. I’m praying for stability and peace. 😀
Praying for your sermon and for this election!
If there has ever been a more serious time for election prayer I don’t know about it. God have mercy on us as a nation.
Reblogged this on a simple man of God.
Praying for God’s will to be done. Praying that God’s people will vote and vote according to His will.
God is in control and that brings peace no matter what happens next week.
Amen God is in control and that brings peace. That truth is encouraging. Also I’m encouraged that you who live in Australia is praying for our country. Sometimes we in the US are so ignorant of what other parts of the world and other countries are like politically and we get consumed with our own politics. How are things politically for Christians in Australia?
Our current Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, is supposedly a Christian.🤷🏻♀️. Only God knows.
Our two major parties are Labor and Liberal. Labor these days is more like the Democratic Party in the USA. Since I became a Christian I always voted for the Christian Democratic Party. (CDP). We are blessed to have a minority party that upholds and stands for Biblical values. It is compulsory to vote in our country so having to choose between the two major parties would be a compromise for me.
That’s Aussie politics in a nutshell.
I wish the CDP would run candidates in my electorate. I used to vote for the Australian Conservatives, but they’ve sadly disbanded. (I would instead vote for Family First, but they absorbed into the Conservatives before they disbanded.)
I didn’t realise THE CDP doesn’t have candidates everywhere in Australia.
Thanks for the information JM
They probably have Senate candidates in most states, but they’re more scarce in the House
That makes sense .
Hope all is well in your side of Aussie 😊
It’s going so-so.
Ok !
Amen 🙏
And amen sister, have a blessed day and week!
Agreed! I regularly pray for the outcome of the American and other elections.
God bless you brother, thanks for praying all the way from Australia! And also for your wonderful comments with Crissy, its really educational for me as I confess my ignorance of Australian politics! I am taking “classes” from you and Crissy!
🙂
Some of my prayer time focuses on the weeks and months following the election. May our citizens truly listen to each other, find common ground one piece at a time, and be willing to use compromise.
lol
