With so much going on in 2020 I thought it be good this afternoon I post a second post with something more devotional with focusing and loving Jesus.
Horatius Bonar. The Unwritten Wonders of the Grace of Christ. Pensacola, FL: Chapel Library, January 7th 2016. 21 pp.

Are you in deep admiration of Jesus? This booklet by Horatius Bonar is meant to warm our hearts to be at awe and worship of Jesus. This pamphlet looks at John 21:25 which the beginning of the booklet quotes from the King James Version: “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” Bonar wants the readers to know that the works in Scripture we have are just “specimens” of what Christ has done; now Bonar avoid being speculative and saying things that are unbiblical since I know one can go off the deep end talking about things beyond Scripture; but Bonar’s point is that we should not miss the duty to marvel at Christ more knowing that there’s so much more He has done and accomplished during His earthly ministry. To the end that the author wants one to love Jesus more and admire Him, I think this short work is worth its gold and packs its punch.
The booklet is divided into two parts: “The Wonders of His Deeds” and “The Wonders of His Words.” Of the two Bonar spent a larger portion with “The Wonders of His Deeds.” In fact while I didn’t primarily read this for the purpose of equipping my apologetics I found it helpful the author categorizing the various wonders that Christ performed. This include “wonders of power” that include the subset of creating power, healing power, life-giving power, power over earth, power over sea, power of men, etc. Secondly there were wonders of majesty. The listing was worthwhile to read and think through and I think it might be helpul to be aware of them reading this book if you are involved with apologetics, preaching and teaching through the four Gospels, are interested in Jesus research or simply as a Christian you want to adore Christ more and worship Him. There are nine wonders that Bonar presented. For the second part I really enjoyed Bonar’s point that of Jesus’ gracious words and how much more instances Jesus spoke graciously more than we have recorded in Scripture. I love how Bonar mentioned various words of Grace to His audiences and also what was written in Scripture. This should move us to love Him and for those who are not saved yet, to know that He is worth turning to for the forgiveness of sins through grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone!
Our minds just can’t comprehend the wonders of our Lord.
The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,
Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
Its rising is from one end of heaven,
And its circuit to the other end;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
Psalm 19:1-6 New King James Version (NKJV)
Sorry the formatting didn’t stick. 😦
Brother Mark thanks for sharing that passage! I love that Psalm and I think you do too as I recall seeing this passage more than once on your blog is that correct my recollection?
I did a search and the passage is in several posts. In case you missed this one: 🙂

Jim, thank you. You added more to the great wonder I mentioned in my post.
Blessings as He reveals Himself more and more through his Word.
Blessings to you may the Lord use all that you are doing with serving Him from writing blog posts, authoring books and ministering one on one especially to those who lost loved ones. God bless you Fran!
Thank you, Jim. The Lord is good, holding me up, bringing me through, and with His comfort able to comfort others. Blessings for your ministry.
Thank you for leading us to this edifying booklet, Jim! This reminded us to worship and adorn JESUS, which is part of our sanctification process. What is written in the Bible on JESUS CHRIST, in His ministry in Earth alone, is just a tip of a gigantic iceberg. His “can be seen by human eye”/physical presence throughout 33 years, is probably just like the smallest nation-state compared to the whole wide universe. There are many many things the omnipresent SON of GOD did and will do that shows His attributes. What He revealed is just a brief FYI for us to digest and believe in faith.
Indeed what He revealed is just but a brief preview of His manifold glory and wonders! Sometimes I can feel the Bible is so big and so much theology of what He’s revealed already that I sometimes need to be reminded that yet, there is more to Him than what was revealed in the Word! What an amazing God! Good analogy of the iceberg, the small nation-state, etc. I’m praying for you guys with the storm; is it raining hard and windy at this moment?? Also I saw a friend said there’s an earthquake in the Philippines yesterday, did you feel it?
Right now, it is literally the calm part before Rolly (local name)/Gondi (international) comes. It will landfall by tomorrow predicted at tens of miles from here. Honestly, I did not feel the earthquake though it was felt here and in other parts of Metro Manila (MM). The magnitude is not high despite the epicenter is tens of miles away from MM. Thank GOD, it is not strong.
Thank you for this great book book resource. That we would know the Lord Jesus more and more and more.
Amen may we strive to know Him more! That’s life’s greatest purpose and end! Praying for the Evangelism after such encouragement you shared this week!
Amen and thank you pastor Jim.
Thanks for the review, Jimmy! I downloaded it to my Kindle and to my long queue of reading material. Check that top header again.
Awesome that you downloaded it! Oh man I messed up again! Will fix it. How often you do the walk at the local cemetery?
Because of the sharp stone gravel on the neighborhood streets, we’ve been driving to the cemetery every morning. The sharp gravel won’t be smoothing out any time soon. The cemetery is only two miles away.
Thanks for the wonderful resource. I look forward to reading it.
Blessings from mighty King Jesus.

Do you try to get through one of these a week? It seems like every time I check, you have a new review up. I respect your dedication to reading.
Wow that’s a good idea to read one from Chapel Library a week! Are you familiar with Chapel Library? I haven’t intentionally read one from them a week though I try to finish a book a week as my New Years resolution but I’m a bit behind since this year was kind of weird and I read books that took longer for me to think through. But I think it’s a luxury I can read with my job as a pastor and also for exercise I can’t lift and run like I can when I was younger so I largely walk and read. Thanks also brother for sharing another of our round up of Apologetics’ links!
Unfortunately, I’ve never heard of Chapel Library. But thanks to you, I will be browsing through their books/PDFs. That’s a very impressive resolution and quite an accomplishment even if you haven’t been able to do it every single week. One book every 2 weeks is still quite an accomplishment for most people. Once the year is through, I’d be interested in learning what your top 5 or top 10 books of 2020 were. And you’re welcome for the share. Sorry it came so late!
Grace is one of the wonders that never runs dry. The more I read from the Bible, I feel my faith deepening.
