People say all kinds of crazy things in rejecting Christianity.
Yesterday I saw a Christian share this image who was wondering what a Christian apologetics’ response would look like:
Its strange whoever wrote this call this “God-eating” being “Eric.”
Here’s my response:
- How did the person who said this Eris is a magical penguin even know this Eric exists and also that it is a penguin?
- The guy who wrote this assume the proof for God and the argument against Eric is on the same footing. But it’s not, as the disproof against Eric isn’t the same kind of argument one can then use against the God of the Bible since the disproof against Eric can be done with an internal critique.
- This Eric creature is internally self-refuting.
- First off if this Eric is suppose to destroy the Christian God then the skeptic has forgotten that the Biblical God is immense (nothing can contain Him), Simple (not made out of components that can be broken down and not be God) and Spirit (immaterial) so eating the God of the Bible makes no sense. So analytically, from the skeptics’ internal belief of this being that eats up the Christian God, it is internally incoherent. So this objection makes as much sense as someone saying water totally doesn’t exist anywhere because there’s something out there that eats up everything that is dry, but that’s not an attribute of water.
- Secondly the post said by definition this Eric is a God eating being. Yet this picture also says if God exists automatically God won’t exist because of Eric. How interesting that this being which is suppose to destroy God still depend upon God to define its essence! So if God automatically don’t exist because of the existence of Eric as it is defined (God-eating being), then Eric by the definition doesn’t exist either!
- Given point 3 that this Eric cannot logically exist by definition and also cannot eat up the Christian God therefore this Eric the God-eating magical penguin isn’t a defeater of Christian belief in the Biblical God.
“Anonymous” says it all. No one wants to actually attach their name to this argument. You are a better person than me for making a defense. Great job!!!
Very good point
Yeah, the assertion gave me a cramp in my brain just reading it, lol. Makes about as much sense as most things in this world these days, though.
Great response! So much Eric theology. 🙂
Thanks for fielding this Jim. I must be getting old because it makes my head hurt. Is it just me or have far more people just lost their minds as of late? This thought keeps running through my mind . . .”What is the matter with you people?” Blessings.
I’m with you brother Bruce, people have lost their minds! When you said “ What is the matter with you people?” should I read into that with RC Sproul’s voice? Have you ever seen that viral clip where he says that? Made me think of Sproul when you said it, don’t know if you know what I’m talking about or you are referring to Sproul lol
Haven’t seen the clip but I know who RC Sproul was! Maybe I subconsciously borrowed it from him! Blessings Jim.
With these comment from someone who hated our GOD, the more I’m grateful to GOD for His grace, regeneration, call, justification, sanctification, and glorification to His elect, Jim. GOD’s own knows Him. We can only pray that mr/ms. anonymous is someone who rebels for now but GOD ultimately saves and uses for His divine purposes because of His mercy. Blessings to you and your family!
I love this: “ We can only pray that mr/ms. anonymous is someone who rebels for now but GOD ultimately saves and uses for His divine purposes because of His mercy.”. Love that a lot. Led me to just now pray for the anonymous individual and the person’s salvation! Without the work of God that you mentioned from the order of Salvation we be no different than this anonymous person. I think even of Romans 1 being on display here with this “anonymouse”May your comment preach to someone that needs the Good News that God the Father sent Jesus to die on the cross for sinners who trust in Jesus’ saving work on the Cross, amen?
Amen Pastor Jim!
Great response. Totally ridiculous thought process which only proves that the God who cannot be eaten by Eric is proven all wise when he says: “for even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
I will be praying that the Holy Spirit grants this person a mind to understand His word and a heart to receive it in faith. Thanks .
Romans 1 definitely is on display in this person’s attack against Christianity. Amen! Wow thanks for your comment and prayer! How did you find my blog and this post? Glad you joined our conversation brother!
On my site in WordPress I searched for similar content as my site and found yours. Thank you for being a faithful witness for Christ.
[…] A God-Eating Being Proves God doesn’t Exist? […]
One of my favorite apologetic arguments came from a couple of guys with some cognitive disabilities. The first guy said, “God is not real!” And the second guy said, “Are you real? Because if you are real then God is real and if you are not real, then you probably shouldn’t be talking to me.” Made me laugh, but that is some profound wisdom! We can prove our own nonexistence long before we can prove God’s, the problem being once we cease to exist it all becomes a moot point. “In Him I have my breath and being,” and it’s quite silly to think we can borrow our breath and being from God and then proceed to argue against His existence.
That’s very… “I’m 13 and this is deep.”
Historically, we’ve not uncovered any proof of this Eric the Penguin, so that right there makes me lose interest 100% in even humoring this. And because Anonymous cannot prove he himself exists, then it’s safe to treat him as if he doesn’t 😉
(My goodness, where did you find this?? I’ve seen better arguments on the leftover grease of a pizza box…😄)
Sister you are on fire! Man now I want to eat some pizza lol. I guess through your presence I want Ramen and Pizza lol. So my quick question: would you have Ramen or Pizza?
Oh, that’s easy. Ramen 😄
Thanks for debunking this “Eric” argument. I’ve learned a lot from you regarding the arguments of atheists and pre sup responses.
You’re welcome and thank you for reading this!
Yeah, you can tell from this post I enjoy Pesuppositional apologetics’ and internal critiques. How is your shift at work going for today?
RE: Shift
Thanks! Around noon, my boss gave me a list of special projects for the rest of today and all day tomorrow. A much welcomed break from my training regimen! 😀👍🏻
How is your prep-Saturday?
And some continue to insist there’s no such thing as a stupid question…
Wow. Somebody’s been quarantined too long …
I think the guy’s cheese isn’t all on his crackers if you know what I’m saying…
😅
Are you sure this wasn’t from Mr. Null and Void. Wow. I am too old.:)
My first thought was: “Well, logically, this is stupid. I won’t argue that God exists. “Exist” almost literally means “out of being” or “comes from something.” God is self-sufficient, immaterial, and eternal. Things only exist because He is. Ergo, God does not exist – come from something else. Therefore, “Eric” has no bearing on God’s existence, regardless of his own existence. Now, if we want to argue “Eric” consumes other spiritual beings – i.e. demons – that are often worshiped by others, then he is most like an evil spirit/demon himself and will receive the same punishment in the Lake of Fire.”
Therefore, technically God does not exist, and the argument against His is stupid.
Wisdom from an anonymous penguin brain.
Such wisdom in your answers pastor Jim “ So this objection makes as much sense as someone saying water totally doesn’t exist anywhere because there’s something out there that eats up everything that is dry, but that’s not an attribute of water”
Blessings to you and your family.
Thanks for reading this Crissy! I think anonymouse isn’t all there. I’m sure over the years you have dealt with many atheist like this anonymouse lol
And worse 😆
The Good News of the Gospel brings us nourishment in the Spirit through our grace-filled God’s bread of life.
It takes more faith to believe God does not exist.
Common sense is all you need to know that he does. BE LIKE CHILDREN!
When you said be like Children I thought of the child who dare use reason and called out the Emperor has no clothes. Out of the mouth of Babes!
[…] 5.) A God-Eating Being Proves God doesn’t Exist? […]
A thorough take down
This God eating Penguin got stapled lol
