No, I don’t have a post describing my conversion experience. Let me just say there was a series of ‘life events’ and ‘coincidences’ culminating in my conversion.
Thank you very much Jim for your exposition on why purgatory is not Biblical. Sadly, more than half of the population in my country 🇵🇭 believes in purgatory and similar extra Biblical doctrines. As I’ve shared with you before, they even have a mobile app and site for prayer requests for relatives/friends who are in that non-Biblical place (as if traffic in the busiest thoroughfare in Metro Manila and summer heat is not already in “purgatory”; a typical Filipino joke). For us who believe in GOD’s grace alone, through JESUS CHRIST alone, by faith alone, have an assurance of sins forgiven, clothed in JESUS’ righteousness, and a glorified body in Heaven. The pain in evangelizing these days is the presence of trolls, but we will just remember that GOD blesses those who have been attacked for righteousness sake. Blessings to you, Nancy, and your kids!
So many good stuff in your comments! You are right these days evangelizing there’s trolls. And you right that we need to remember saints of old have always been attacked for righteousness sake. When you said half the population in PH believes in Purgatory, I never thought about how many Catholics there are in your country though I know there’s many; I’m curious if Protestants make up the second biggest religious group in your country, or some other religious group?
You made me check the data a bit. I’m not so sure what is the figure from our Statistics agency for 2020 but an article citing official stats for 2015 states that there were 10% plus Biblical Christians, Christian Cults, and other protestants (e.g. prosperity gospel). That figure followed the 80% Catholics (my apologies, I thought by this day they are just 70%). So, yes, protestants are second placers followed by 6% Islam. The 10% of 109 million total population (2021) divided by cults, prosperity gospel, and Biblical Christianity in different denominantions and nondenominational, is probably at least 3 million plus Filipinos who believe in GOD’s saving grace. Cults and the rest probably have 6 million plus.
Sitting outside and literally laughed out loud at your Filipino joke so loud it echoed!!!! (I do not care that neighbors heard me!!!). I am so thankful for all y’alls knowledge on purgatory. I never understood this concept until my maternal grandma died and all my sister-in-law said was “I will pray for her.” I was incensed and ready to say something smart back about how my grandma is safely and securely at home with her Lord and Savior and my mom said, “let it go. She genuinely believes this.” So thankful for both of y’all exposing this heinous and heretical lie!!!!
Kent has humor! By the way praying for your lessons for the kids today, the slides looks very informative and helpful Mandy! I’m praying it helps the kids to think of how to think through difficult circumstances!
Looks like it caused a sonic blast 😆 but true, that is how Filipinos see EDSA (Epifanio De los Santos Avenue), a highway where two People Power Revolutions occured. So does a scorching summer heat. With arguebly 70% Catholics in the country, purgatory is a household word synonymous to torture and a fantasy pocket universe.
I am doing well, thanks. Good to be back I suppose. Not sure how long it will last this time. Going to shoot for one or two posts a week which should be manageable. Starting on my doctorate next month and am not sure how time intensive that is going to be but we’ll see.
Brother, I’m REALLY looking forward to listening to this entire podcast during the rest of my commutes this weekend. Will comment again after I finish listening.
Purgatory, going before a Priest to tell my sins and receive forgiveness, praying to Saints and telling me as a child when I first received Communion that it did in fact change into the body of Christ were just some of the many things the Catholic church indoctrinated me with as a child and growing up in the Catholic grade school for 8 years. I never bought it. It never felt as genuine truth-telling from the start. To my core I believe God gave me discernment in this. He continues to give me discernment in many things. His Holy Spirit guides me to all Truth which is found only in God’s Word, inspired by God, written by men, to God’s glory through the Son, Jesus Christ!
I was going to watch the video but for the error message.
Sounds like God has been gracious with you sister. You should write a post of your testimony. I left a few comments over the last two weeks on your blog, hope they went through for your blog!
Interestingly (to me), we came to faith around the same time, though I’m ~20 years older.
Wow that is neat to hear! How did you come to know Christ? Do you have a post sharing your testimony?

Thank you for your prayers! I am excited, nervous and also praying that it will be useful to the kiddos!!!

Excellent. I’ve started watching and will circle back later. Blessings.
Great job on the podcast, hope the audience was blessed.
Thanks James! Hope you are doing well! Glad to see you blogging again!

Awesome! Thanks for listening to this! Praying your shift would go well; hope it’s not too swamp with backlog of work…let me know?
Thanks, brother! I came back to a relatively easy work day today with very little in the queue for tomorrow.
Hope you’re having a good prep day!
The tone of these guys are uncompromising yet fair

Yes they did! I appreciate your feedback!
Thank you, Grand.
Will watch on YouTube.
That is encouraging to hear Maw Maw. Have a blessed Saturday and weekend!
You also.
I was about to watch this but YouTube indicated I had watched it previously, then I noticed the date!
I like the two different sets of puzzles kind of analogy
This is sooo good.
Listening right now.

Loved the slides with the analogy of the different puzzles!

According to traditional Catholic belief it’s suppose to be a good thing but it isn’t it’s more temporal hell
Thank-you for sharing. I’ve had major concerns about this doctrine. Seems no Christians of any church tradition should embrace Purgatory
There’s a lot of Catholics in my country so this is needed
