Someone asked me “Do Deacons Need to be Married?”
I don’t think deacons must be married though if he is married there’s certain qualification.
Here’s my thoughts:

Have you ever wonder happened after the American founding father faded away? Who was the second generation Americans? In this book titled Heirs of the Founders author H.W. Brands look at three key important politicians that come to define the generation that was given the mantle of leading the United States after the first generation. These three politicians are Henry Clay, Daniel Webster and John Calhoun. These three figures were all US Senators and were leaders of their respective regions: Henry Clay representing the West, John Calhoun the South and Henry Clay the North. I got this book to read since from other previous studies and reading I’m convinced that some of the later problems in US history was defined more by this second generation of Americans as opposed to the first generation of Americans (the founding fathers).

Here’s a news documentary that gives one a perspective of how things were going in Afghanistan in days before the collapse of Afghanistan:
It is sobering. I think it shows us a window of how elite units were without support to win, mixed in with untrained and partially trained local forces.
I know there’s many views but I thought it is worth sharing to know the challenges Afghan forces and commandos faced. I know there’s a lot of difficulties with the Afghan military but I also think its important to realize there’s always good units within any military.
One thing I wished the documentary did was censored the faces of these commandos.

For today’s post we will tackle the question the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: When were the stars made?
Here are the answers which the skeptic believes indicate a Bible contradiction:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
“God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. 17 God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.” (Genesis 1:16-19)
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you [a]have understanding, 5 Who set its measurements? Since you know. Or who stretched the measuring line over it? 6 On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy?.” (Job 38:4-7)
(All Scriptural quotation comes from the New American Standard Bible)

This is a series on the attributes of God.
Session 34: The Grace of God Part 3: The Grace of God in Sanctification and Ministry
Review: We have been looking at the grace of God for the third week. We first looked at the grace of God in the Old Testament. Last week we look into the Grace of the God in the New Testament specifically, (1) God’s grace is an attribute found in all three members of the members of the Trinity, (2) and the grace of God seen in salvation of sinners.
Purpose: In this session we shall explore the attribute of the grace of God as taught in the New Testament and also draw implications for the Christian life. Specifically, (1) we will see God’s grace and sanctification (2) and God’s grace in ministry.

Do you want to write a guest post here on our blog?
Nothing as dramatic as previous years when I made a call for guest posts when I went and travel to unnamed country. It will just be for while I’m having a trip. So I’m looking for guest posts while I’m away!
Interested? Here are the details:

A few months ago I wrote a post titled “Teaching Hard Parts of Narratives in the Bible: Examples from Genesis.”
I know there are some hard passages in the Bible that makes some wonder “What’s going on?” and even “Why is it in the BIble?”
Yesterday I had a conversation with someone about the difficult parts of the Bible and it made me think about Genesis 38; that chapter to some can be “weird.” Matter of fact I think many Christian preachers skip that chapter.
So sometimes in apologetics I think its important to look at a passage in its context and that resolves some of the difficulties while also seeing what its suppose to mean and teach us according to the context.
So here’s a recent sermon that I think is worth listening to that might be helpful!

For today’s post we will tackle the question the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: Who was Bashemath’s father?
Here are the answers which the skeptic believes indicate a Bible contradiction:
“also Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, the sister of Nebaioth.” (Gen 36:3)
“Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, the granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite; 3 also Basemath,, the sister of Nebaioth.” (Genesis 36:2-3)

These days as some of us pray for Afghanistan and wanting to find out more news of what’s going on there on the ground it can be frustrating with how little we know, and what we do know is distressing.
Its also been a time that I’ve seen some reflect back the last 20 years since 9/11.
For me it led me to think also about my own family’s history as the events in Afghanistan have been compared to the fall of Saigon. I thought I share this, in gratitude to God, and the kindness of American Christians in America’s Mid-West. By the way this post isn’t political partisan politics, nor a support for interventionist political policy, but simply stories of the human experience, and thoughts about with God and also his work through Christians in America.

The news the last few days that have grabbed my attention is the Taliban take over of Afghanistan including entering into its Capital. I think its safe to say it caught the US and the world by surprise. The United States is trying to evacuate its citizens and have sent thousands of Marines and Army soldiers to help with that.
These appear to be the first footage of the Marines arriving (I haven’t found anything else and I put some effort searching):
There’s always a certain bounce with Marines’ movement. As I looked I can’t help but to think about how 70 percent of enlisted marines are 24 and younger with the bulk joining right out of high school which means most of these Marines are young enough to be the sons of the first wave of Marines that entered Afghanistan nearly 20 years ago.
