For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Train your kids to learn to listen to others.
Why?
I want them to be godly Christians who are compassionate and caring of others including the body of Christ.
How?
Talk to them about listening. Tell them God listens to us and we should also listen to others as a way of ministering and encouraging others.
Before going to church talk about it! Also on the way commuting to church remind them what you said to them about listening.
If you are looking for teaching materials on listening you can tweak a lesson with your own input from my outline series on Godly Communication Series Table of Contents
You might have to tweet it since its originally a series on marriage; still there’s principles and applications from it!
[…] This Sunday at Church: Train your kids to learn to listen to others — The Domain for Truth […]
This is excellent brother. Our primary responsibility is to raise Godly children. Learning to listen to others is huge.
Blessings for a wonderful day of ministry.
Great lessons for any child . . . and any adult.
Reblogged this on a simple man of God and commented:
My wife (our Children’s Director) and I (the Youth Pastor) regularly tell the the children/teens that we listen when others are speaking because it honors the God who listens to our prayers and needs, it honors God by honoring His image in others, it honors God and others by loving our neighbor, and (at least at church) it honors God and others so that others may hear the most important message: the Gospel.
This can be true in class, during the sermon, and anywhere else in the world.

Great advice my Brother! Definitely needed today! Just saying. 💗😉👍
Thanks Roland for reading this! How was your Lord’s Day?
Had a great time in the Lord today Brother! Hope and pray yours was also especially blessed! 😉
Thanks for the good exhortation, brother! Many relationship problems stem from poor listening habits. We’re so with our own thoughts that we don’t give space in our heads for others. Good exhortation for children – and their parents.
Listening is the hardest easiest thing to do! You’re right this is an exhortation to both parents and children! How did the Sunday shift go? Just got back and I’m exhausted from ministering today!
Hope you can recharge those batteries tomorrow!
RE: shift
Thanks! I was mostly auditing today. I’m whipped too! We both need to R&R tomorrow!
Very good points! But I certainly hope that, above listening to others, they are first in fact listening to their parents. 😃
LOL that’s true! Very true. How was your Lord’s Day Lisa?
Listening is a lost art form. Quick to hear/listen is truly a life saving command!
Indeed! This is also a topical Bible study outline that I revisit often for my own application!
Raising godly children should be a priority.
Amen!! If one good thing came out of 2020 it was many in our church focused on our kids and being biblical parents. Didn’t realize how much God worked on that until looking bad; needed that reminder from God that He is still working, amen??
AMEN !!
Amen and Amen.
And amen! Hope your Lord’s Day went well!!
It did. Thank you, Pastor.
Good idea. And for (*ahem*) some of us, it’s a good idea to pray that we parents can be good listeners for our kids, too. 😉
Good thing to pray about! I think the only thing I wrote that I actually review often for myself is my topical outline on communication that I linked in this post…Because I need to be a listening husband and father! How was your Lord’s day?
I have a fantasy of someday meeting an extrovert who is also a good listener. 😉
I am not a parent but I certainly would be teaching my children to listen to learn to others before speaking if I did have children. Christian Parents must set the example for child raising. As the current culture of this country is destroying what it is to raise a family.
I suspect if Christians raise their kids well and biblically in all aspects our country might be different…will read your post tonight, been a crazy weekend
I have also written a post yesterday about my 2 older half sisters who are both from Guatemala and are survivors of the Guatemalan Civil War. They were born in the 1970s
Have one of those too, she has her moments
