For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel on Thanksgiving.
For those in the US Thanksgiving is coming soon; its on the last Thursday of the month of November.
It is a time where family and relatives get together; of course some do not know Christ. It is an opportunity to share the Gospel. But it isn’t easy to share the Gospel to family.
Yet this is an opportunity to point people to Jesus.
I think it is important in light of the challenges, yet also the opportunity, how we deal with this is to pray. Pray before Thanksgiving come about sharing the Gospel on Thanksgiving. Don’t just pray these things privately but seek others at church on Sunday to pray together about this, both for your family and the other person’s family!
Pray for:
- Family to gather safely.
- Family to gather on time. (I suspect with the state of the economy travel will be extra challenging this year, with canceled flight, fuel costs and other shortages).
- Family to not fight over trivial matters.
- Family to know you love them and family members to show love to one another.
- Family to not have jealousy, anger, bitterness and unforgiveness rob the opportunity of gathering to thank God and thank family members.
- For Gospel to be heard clearly.
- For Gospel to be heard in appropriate duration.
- For deeper conversations about the Gospel during the Thanksgiving season.
- For further conversation about the Gospel that will be born from the Gospel being shared on Thanksgiving.
- For letters, text, emails, messages and social media interaction to family members leading up to Thanksgiving also pave the way ahead for the Gospel to be shared on Thanksgiving and also for the Gospel to be even shared before!
- To be wise of how the Gospel is shared.
- For the hearts of hearers be soften.
- For God to redeem any challenges, trials and difficulties this past year so as to move the person to trust in Christ and the Gospel.
- For faithfulness to the Gospel (the pressure to be silent or compromise is strong and we are weak).
- For ourselves to be refreshed with the Gospel as well, along with members of the family who are Christians.
- For the unity of believing family members to be in one unison in sharing the Gospel.
What else can you add of details to pray for?
Yes, it is more important to put our family connected to God, 1 Timothy 3, I will pray for this program
My Prayer Petition
God help us to live in peace with all people, sometimes we over react when other people approach us wrongly so Holy Spirit must help is to be meek
Romans 12:18
Psalm 34 :14
Wow thank you for your prayers. How did you find this post and page? Blessings to you sir!
Excellent suggestion. Thanksgiving is a great time to spread the good news of Jesus. Some families have a tradition of everyone saying what they are thankful for. What a wonderful time to share the love of Jesus. Or, we can say it on our own to others to say what they are thankful for and then share our message. Seems like so many opportunities.
Blessings for a stunning day in paradise. God is with you and your ministry.

What a blessing! Great list to pray over in preparation for Thanksgiving. 🙏✝️
Aww thanks! Have a blessed and thanks filled Lord’s Day today sister Dora
You reminded me to pray for the following: “For the hearts of hearers be soften.” May we all be surprised to realize who we really are when we see each other in the light that Jesus and the Holy Spirit provide.
Amen. I’m praying for your Thanksgiving brother Frank

Wise counsel, Jimmy! Praying for your sermon today!!!
Your prayers mean a lot Mandy! Is there other church meetings for you guys today other than deacon’s meeting?
Thank you…Praise God!
Reblogged this on a simple man of God and commented:
For holidays and whenever family and friends come together, may we pray for opportunities to share the Gospel.
At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ …— that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
Colossians 4:3-4, ESV
Daniel
Thanks for the good exhortation! Yes, holiday get-togethers are a great time to share the Gospel with family and friends. It’s sadly ironic that many/most will “celebrate” Thanksgiving without acknowledging God. They don’t desire to hear about God on a day created specifically to give thanks to God.
It is ironic indeed! Also If we are nothing more than evolved oversize germs it makes no sense to be thankful for everything if we above is just sky and the height of evolution is us, biological carbon bags originating from stardusts. But given God as revealed in the Word as Creator ad Worker of providence we have much to be thankful for. How is your shift today??
RE: Thankfulness vs. atheism
Ha! Thanks for bringing the pre-sup hammer down on illogical atheist Thanksgiving celebrators.
RE: shift
Thanks! Things went as planned. Worked hard Friday and yesterday, but made sure I got enough help to finish by 2 today. I’ll be auditing (yawn) until the whistle blows.
How is your Sunday going?
I think if I played a recognizable Christian Worship tune on the piano commonly played at church during Thanksgiving, it may bring some reflection for our family. No one initiates prayer or Thankfulness to God when the family is gathered unless it is me. Not even my husband. So many profess to be Christian, but keep thoughts of God all to themselves as a private matter.I miss Christian fellowship, even in my own family. I have lost friends and neighbors talking about Jesus. I think I will practice a song on the piano for that day. Blessings everyone! If we could not share the love of God openly and with words, where would some of us be today?
This is so challenging! I am praying for your family. I am encouraged though for your desire to share the truth and reach others including family and relatives with the Gospel. It can’t be easy. Your idea of the music is also very good; very good Cathy. Can I add that to the list in this post with credit to you???
Sure. Music reaches people in ways words can’t seem to.
These are very deep and thorough prayer points. This is a necessary prayer for our family all the time. Thank you for taking the time to encourage us how to pray for our families. God bless you my brother. Blessings 🙌
Excellent! Thank you! 🦃
You’re welcome! How is your day going???
Thank you for asking. I look forward to hearing from you as I am used to it now and I really enjoy knowing you’re there. Of course, I know how it’s normal for bloggers to chat with someone for a phase and then disappear. But, I understand. I am happy for the moment. 😊
I am well. I hope you are doing fabulous. I have tried to stick to my schedule today and got some needed things done. I want to write another post about God soon because it makes me feel close to him. I have one in my draft but still editing it. 💫
Are you on any other social media sites? I am on Pinterest. I just tried out a few more sites for the heck of it to see what they were about. But what I really need to do is get back to my final draft of my memoir. Lol.
Thanks Jim! This is a great reminder.
I appreciate this discussion, and I feel blessed that my wife and I will observe Thanksgiving with family. All are believers who are firm in their faith. Most importantly, we will be thankful that we can gather as a family after being separated a year ago.
Countdown to Thanksgiving! May we apply this
17 more days!!!
It cannot come soon enough
