For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Pray that the Sermon Would not be Watered Down.
Those who are pastors reading this I hope you don’t feel attacked (I’m a pastor too). But this is something we should have our members pray about our preaching. Even if you don’t shrink back from preaching God’s Word accurately and you do mention things like sin, hell, etc. We can never have too many prayers about this! And pray this too yourself!
For those who don’t preach and teach on Sunday, pray but also consider that this responsibility is not easy. The Word of God has implications for every sphere of life and sometimes people don’t like what the implications are. Or its not easy to speak the truth week after week without being discouraged. I think in my immediate theological circle I think more likely pastors aren’t going to go on the deep end of preaching overt heresies but more likely they get discouraged that their church members don’t want to grow in solid and sound doctrines or deeper into the Word. So they just decide to pour less time into the studies and less effort, for the effort and studies aren’t appreciated. So begins the slide…
I can imagine a few more other scenarios. Fear of man. Rabbit trails away from the Gospel. But it is suffice to say for now this is worth praying about!
Thanks brother. It is indeed worth praying for. We need the power of the Holy Spirit to fill each message. We need more boldness to speak the truth. We need it from the pulpit and we need it in our workplaces. We all have opportunities 7 days a week.. I pray for conversions and discipleship.
Blessings.

Thanking God for your faithful ministry, Jimmy, and praying for you and all those called to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God! May you know the Spirit’s power working in you and may you know the deep appreciation of those who hunger and thirst after righteousness! “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
pax,

Thanks for your kind words. This is encouraging to read before preaching! How is your Lord’s Day so far Dora??
Good, brother, by God’s grace. Thanks for asking.
Reblogged this on Talmidimblogging.
Reblogged this on a simple man of God and commented:
I am fortunate to be in a congregation with elders and pastors who honor the Word each week. I know I try to lean on the Word and the Author.
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15, ESV
Daniel
Good prayer!
Thanks how was church today? Came home later than usual and totally spent! But blessed!!!
Couldn’t agree more, Jim! There are some things that should never be compromised.
Amen! How was your Sunday??
Pretty good for the most part! Hope your’s was great!
As a pastor, I would most definitely rejoice to know that the members of the congregation are praying such a prayer. J.
Thanks for the good (and honest) exhortation. I can see where over time pastors become discouraged and begin to “cut corners.” Lord help you to keep fighting the good fight – 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
Thank you for that passage! To answer your question I had a long day, got home later from church and then a long talked with a missionary for about 4 hours at night when we got back but the talk with the missionary. Pray I get rested!!
Will pray you can recharge your batteries today-Monday!
Thanks Brother! I haven’t preached behind the pulpit in a little while now, but prayers for those teaching and exhorting the Word of God are so vitally important to the health of the Body of Christ as a whole. I wish more members would realize the immense responsibility that rests on the heart of a minister of the Word. We have a lot more to answer to the Lord for, for the Words we speak or even write! Great thoughts Brother! God bless! 👍💗🕊😇🙏
Brother i say amen to your post! It’s a big responsibility to preach! Do you have recordings from when you use to preach and teach?
I have a few on cassette tape. You remember those don’t you? Not to young to remember cassettes? LOL 😉
Pastor Jim, I appreciate your honesty assessment as well as encouragement in our prayers. Sometimes we may feel a bit uncomfortable with a certain sermon topic, but wouldn’t Jesus do the same thing.
The post where you can find your link is called “Reputations and Flying Monkeys”. 😂
