For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Explain to someone about the Incarnation.
What’s the incarnation? It is the teaching of God coming down as a man to save sinners. In theology this is called Incarnation. I think this Sunday at church it be good to not only talk about the concept but also let people know the word so it helped them in the future in learning more from books about Jesus.
This doctrine is precious. I suggest studying and reading more about it too. Here’s resources from Monergism of various links on the Incarnation.
You can tell someone as a greeting “I’m so glad for the Incarnation, aren’t you?” You can then be ready to talk about it. With kids as someone who is involved with teaching the youth I can imagine goind straight to the chase and ask something like “Is there any questions you have about Jesus being God coming down as man to save us from our sins?”
Good passages to base discussions and look up passages together include Philippians 2 and John 1:1-14,

I love this! As children and disciples of God we need to make discussions about Biblical references and doctrine common place in our lives. Too often folk are scared feeling that such subjects are the preserve of the few, but that is not the truth…in fact it is a lie of the devil. The Incarnation is so exciting and humbling all at once! Over the years I have often introduced propitiation into conversations, often having the excitement of clarifying it in love.
Wow if you managed to talk to people in conversations about propitiation that is amazing. I think few could do so let along willing to do so; but it’s so rich of a truth about God’s grace! Thanks for sharing that as it’s so encouraging!! Have a blessed Lord’s Day and rest brother
This is a great suggestion brother. We clearly do not talk about the Incarnation much at all. This is a great time of year to introduce it.
Blessings.

Great post!!
Thanks sister! Hope you are doing well
Good idea! A lot of folks know that Christ is God’s Son, but don’t understand what that actually means.
Truth! Yesterday you said one of your son doesn’t believe in celebrating Christmas, is it because they think it’s pagan or some other reason? Hope you don’t mind me asking
I don’t mind your asking. It’s my son in law, and his church has a long list about how it started as a pagan celebration and we don’t know the exact date of Christ’s Birth and how commercialized the celebration is. I’ve addressed each of these to he and his relatives on that side of the family, but what it boils down to is that they are really focused on the Old Testament and the celebrations of the Mosaic Law. They only celebrate what they consider God Ordained celebrations. So they don’t even celebrate Hanukkah because it wasn’t mentioned in the Mosaic Law. I pointed out that there is Scriptural evidence that Christ Himself observed Hanukkah but because I didn’t remember where it is in The Bible (The Feast of Dedication John 10:22-23) they concluded that I must have been mistaken and talking about The Feast of Tabernacles. That was many years ago, but just this year my son in law decided that he and his family would celebrate Hanukkah, which they did. I’m not sure exactly how he changed his mind, but perhaps I did plant a seed all those years ago.
Thanks Pastor Jim for sharing an enlightened conversation starter. Blessings to your ministry work in the coming days. May your labors bear much fruit in the name of the Lord.
Years ago I taught a “religion” class to seventh and eighth graders in a Lutheran school. Those whose families were part of the congregation received this instruction to be confirmed as members of the church; for the rest, it was just one class they had to take. We reached the chapter on the Incarnation of our Lord, which I explained very carefully. But one young man went home and told his Baptist family that I had been teaching them to believe in reincarnation. Needless to say, this led to a phone call to the school and a lot of explaining. J.
Man I never would have thought it be confused with reincarnation and this was both funny and sad. In my context of ministering to Asians I think I should explain very clearly Not only what is Incarnation but also it is NOT REINCARNATION! Was the student ethnically Asian?
No, he was not ethnically Asian. I will say, though, that he was not the brightest student in the class, by a long shot.
Good exhortation! It’s jaw-dropping amazing that God the Son came into the world as a human being (on a mission!)!
It is indeed amazing and shocking! May our heart not be apathetic to this truth; sometimes I think the good consequences of sharing and teaching and evangelizing the Gospel is one’s own heart is filled with affections for Christ! How’s the weather for you guys in ROC?
ROC had some really mild weather last week, but it got cold over the weekend with some light snowfall. A high of only 16F today. How’s the weather in SoCal?
I believe many Christians does not use the word incarnation but it is a good conversation starter. Thanks for the tip and have a great week in the Lord.
Sounds like a good idea for this Sunday!

Practical and biblical idea for even non-Christmas time.
