There has been a lot of recent heated discussions on social media by Thomists (followers of Thomas Aquinas) that those who are into Presuppositional Apologetics as taught by Cornelius Van Til do not understand the Trinity or worst hold to a heretical view of the Trinity. These discussions touch on Divine Simplicity and the operation of the Holy Trinity.
There are some whom no matter how many times I and others have said we do believe in the historic view of God and Trinity and subscribe to Classical Theism they keep bringing this up.
In the past I have written on VAN TILLIAN TRINITARIAN THEOLOGY: IT’S ORTHODOX STATUS AND APPLICATION TO THE ONE AND THE MANY. That piece was focus on Gordon Clark’s attack on Van Til.
I recently found two lectures by former Westminster Theological Seminary professor Lane Tipton. They were delivered in 2020 but seems more relevant now with social media chatter.
Tipton’s PhD work was on the Trinity and here his lectures obviously are way better than I can write or talk about.
Here are the videos:
Thanks! Very helpful. I had seen some chatter on this.
Blessings!
I’ll listen to this. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! I am planning to listen to them more than once today, to give it more attention to the details. I’m grateful for Reformed Forum. Hope you are doing well brother!!!
To God be the glory!
I am puzzled that there would be such an objection based on the Trinity to presuppositional apologetics. Perhaps I don’t understand what is involved. I will try to listen to these today.
Awesome that you would listen to these. Blessings to you brother
I just finished listening to them. I learned a new word: perichoresis. What I found most interesting was this has something to do with the way Adam was made in the image of God having a natural religious fellowship with God.
His book on this topic should be available soon.
I can’t wait! Been waiting for it. Also thanks for all the resources on Enoch.
Life would be so much simpler if we could just ” believe on me and thou shall be saved and love your neighboe as thou self.”
That is a Biblical truth we must never forget!
Praying this isn’t another blowup like EFS/ESS/ERAS
I hope it doesn’t become like the EFS debate…how goes your day today dear sister??? Counting down already!!!
It’s a good day! I am really eager for next week!!! How are you feeling?!
I’m looking forward to queuing at least the first one of these up although I’m guessing they’re over my T-101 head. Those Thomists are nothing but trouble. It’s coincidental but my post today has a lot to say about Thomists. So incongruous that some evangelicals are infatuated with Aquinas.
I’ll be looking forward to today’s post then! How goes your day so far, any ROC specialty for lunch today???
Going slow today. 14F currently in ROC. My wife has her sisters over this afternoon so I went grocery shopping for the weekend and am just staying out of the way. Had a McD’s burger on the fly for lunch.
How are you feeling and what’s for lunch?
Some of this went above my head but its clear Van Til is trying to protect absolute personal theism with his language
Reblogged this on Talmidimblogging.
Thank you.
You are welcome. God truth can get so deep! Yet so simple a child can be saved amen?
Amen. 🙂
