Archive for April, 2022

Pastors also need a break from heavy theological reading!  Haven’t done one of these for months, so here’s a Batman comic book review!  I actually read this back in January but forgot to write a review!

Do you like the Batman Animated Series from the 90s?  If so this comic might be for you!  One of the screen writers for the Animated Series is one of the writers for this “Batman: The Adventures Continue” series and there’s a feel of the 90s Animated Batman: Its gritty but also not over the top or gory, it has stories that are interesting and other characters are explored including villains.  This trade paperback collects issues 1 through 8.

We hit a new milestone for our blog Veritas Domain: Sometime yesterday on April 29th around 8 AM Pacific Standard Time we had 2.1 million total views!  That’s the total of view since our blog began in September 2006 but with most of the hits taking place the last few years.

It was 7 months ago to get to here from when we were at 2 million.  Took longer for this 100,000 than the previous milestones since it seems we have less hits than before.

Prayer is Mightier than the Sword

I am going to make this post of my thoughts on Exodus 17:8-16 on the importance of prayer in case in the future I preach on it and research more nevertheless here’s my initial thoughts looking at the passage.  The passage overall purpose is prayer is important; its so important that prayer might be mightier than the sword.

The holding up of the hands is an action of prayer; see Psalm 63:4 and 1 Timothy 2:8.

bible_contradiction_what_was_jesus_s_sixth_commandment_resolved

For today’s post we will tackle the question the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: What was Jesus’s sixth commandment?

Here are the answers which the skeptic believes indicate a Bible contradiction:

Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 Then he *said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not give false testimony; 19 Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”” ( Matthew 19:17-19)

Honour thy father and mother.

You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’”” (Mark 10:19)

There was no sixth. Jesus listed only five commandments.

“You know the commandments, ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, Honor your father and mother.’” (Luke 18:20)

(All Scriptural quotation comes from the New American Standard Bible)

bible_contradiction_did_moses_fear_the_king_resolved

For today’s post we will tackle the question the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: Did Moses fear the king?

Here are the answers which the skeptic believes indicate a Bible contradiction:

Moses feared the king.

But he said, “Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and said, “Surely the matter has become known!” 15 When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he tried to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well. (Exodus 2:14-15)

Moses did not fear the king.

By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he persevered, as though seeing Him who is unseen.” (Hebrews 11:27)

(All Scriptural quotation comes from the New American Standard Bible)

apologetics_session_bible_s_view_of_unbelief

Establish the need: What does God think about unbelief?

Purpose: We will look at four truths to have a biblical view of how God sees unbelief.

  1. Creation attests that the Biblical God exists
  2. The Word of God is self-evidencing
  3. Christ is self-evidencing
  4. God’s description of unbelievers

Review: Previous Lessons and how it connects with this session

  • We have to defend the faith (session 1)
  • We can’t be neutral (session 2).
  • We have to have a biblical view of faith and reason (session 3)
  • We also need to have a right view of unbelief.
    • Since we can’t be neutral we need to listen to God’s Word on this subject.
    • We need to hear God on whether He has given evidence of Himself and from there what is God’s evaluation of unbelief.
