For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Honor those who have served at Church for years.
I know in the past I have written Thank someone who works behind the scene. That was nearly three years ago. (I didn’t know I have been doing these Sunday series that long!). But today’s post I want to capture something more than just saying “thank you.” Pray before you go to church for an opportunity to publicly honor someone before others.
Don’t just find someone who is in a visible serving position; try to see if there’s someone who is behind the scene.
This idea came about as we have a family going to go to another church. They have been faithful for decades. They want to leave quietly. But I feel that wasn’t right; we should express our appreciation for decades of serving God. We will have food and others share their thanks publicly.
Maybe this Sunday it won’t be as coordinated and celebratory (and a bit of sadness with the joy). But it be a great aim to honor someone before others.
I think this can be easier to do if you are involved with leadership at church; still I think there can be opportunities that present itself for all of us to honor someone verbally.

I have a youth meeting after church today and this is a timely word of encouragement for me to thank those who have been with the youth for years! Praying for your sermon!!!!!
Thank you for your prayers for my church service! Wow praying for the youth meeting after church tomorrow! Is the youth group with the other church?
The youth meeting was with my church. How was your service? Are you done with Ephesians now?

Good exhortation! While we shouldn’t be seeking the applause of men in serving the Lord, encouragement from brethren can be a God-sent boost.
Amen exactly. Will be a long Sunday ahead of me. How goes the shift today?
Lord bless your day! A pastor’s work is never finished.
RE: Shift
Thanks. Real slow as expected. Zero orders for the guys and nothing for me to audit for the next three hours. Fortunately, I do have a special job in my back pocket for just such occasions.
Good stuff. Hope you had a great Sunday.
I had a great Sunday! Last day for this one family who has been in our church for nearly 30 years, it was emotional but also joyful as I known this guy since high school! How was your Sunday
Kind of a holdover from moving every few years when I was growing up and then in the military but I always hate it when people leave. Hopefully the family is leaving on good terms and off to do something God has called them to do.
I had a great Sunday as well. Church then some school work. Pretty relaxing after working in the yard all day Saturday.
Have a blessed week.
Amen.
And amen Bonnie! Hope you have a blessed week ahead of you, this I pray!
I love the practice of recognizing faithful Christ followers. Our church, which is made up largely of college students and young families, sang “Happy birthday” last week to a long-time member who was turning 89. 😊💕🎂A sweet moment.
Wow thank you for sharing that. What a practical example of honoring a member of the body of Christ!!!
Sunday at church, we had a visiting missionary serving in Myanmar for forty years. It was a blessing to honour him and his wife for all the amazing work the Lord has been doing through their ministry in very difficult and dangerous situations specially since the military took over the government.
Excellent post pastor Jim.
Wow thanks for sharing that. What a testimony this missionary has and also what an example your church is by honoring him. Fits this post very well thanks for sharing this!
You are welcome pastor Jim. Thank you for allowing me to share it.
