I’ll have a busy Thursday with ministry today. Pastoral visitation in morning and also evening with a memorial for a member who passed away unexpectedly.
It got me thinking about a verse. Revelation 21:4.
Revelation 21:4 states:
and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”
This is such an amazing truth.
Amazing since in our time on earth there will be mourning, crying, pain and death.
And here’s a promise that they will one day be no more.
And God will comfort us is the basis for that being one day no more.
This incredible verse must be seen in the context of the chapter.
Revelation 21 is about the New Heaven and New Earth that’s coming one day.
But not everyone goes there. Because of sin we read in Revelation 21:8 about judgment for sinners:
But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Of course we all have sin. But we can be saved! Two verses earlier in Revelation 21:6 it draws us to look to Jesus:
hen He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give water to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life, without cost.
Jesus came to die for the sins of those who would trust in Him. This is a free gift of grace. But you got to trust in Him.
Trust in Him today. You never know when you leave this world and enter eternity. Have you trusted in Him?
The gospel is medicine for a sickened soul, comfort for a grieving heart, and peace for a troubled conscience!
Amen that is a good summary of the application of the Gospel! It’s very excellent!!
[…] Ministry and Revelation 21:4 […]
Thanks for proclaiming the good news this morning. Praying for your ministry.
Shalom!
I was thinking of that verse today before I read your post. My wonderful wife of 17 years passed away 9 months ago, only 44 years old. How can that be, no more crying or mourning? When we are resurrected and with the Lord in heaven, we must be able to know who we were in this life, down here on earth? For there to be no more pain or crying, we can’t have memories of our past lives, can we? For if we would, wouldn’t that cause pain or sorrow or crying?
Maybe the difference would be similar to the earth before man sinned and after. There was no death in the Garden of Eden. So, how did the ecosystem work, with no death, would any plants die and decompose? There would have had to be a great deal of change that took place after sin entered into the earth.
So, maybe in like manner, as it explains somewhat in I Corinthians 15:54 “Death is swallowed up in victory.” But all the particulars and details of how that will work (no pain nor tears), I believe only God truly knows. And one day, I will see the Lord, and my loving wife, daughter, and others that have passed from this fleeting life, to life eternal in heaven with the Lord, where He will wipe away my tears, and from all others who enter there.
Wow that is hard to have lost a wife 9 months ago. I’m praying for you as I can’t imagine the pain that you must feel with your lost.
You are right brother, it is hard to imagine the pain. No one really understands it, until their spouse dies. Though hard to understand, many will understand it one day. For death comes for all spouses one day. For me, this was, and is the worse thing I have ever gone through. I still weep every day. Thank you for your prayers, I need them.
Good reminders from Revelation 21. I trust in Him. May we all do so.
Amen may we do so Frank, amen. Have a blessed Thursday brother
I was just discussing Revelation 21:4 with my cousin this week, Pastor Jim. It is, indeed, an amazing truth!
Wow providential to hear that brother. Thanks for your prayers. With my first visitation I’m thankful to hear the guy trusted in Christ and profess faith a few days ago. This is a bedside conversion and they don’t think he will live long…again thank you for your prayers
You’re welcome. Every pastor needs to be consistently held up in prayer.
It’s always so great to hear about a new believer. I often wonder if bedside conversions are rare or more usual that we would expect. I’m sure in some cases only God knows. What a blessing that you could be there for that family.
May God continue to bless your ministry, Pastor Jim!
Oh, and I pray that God will give you strength for the day.
It is those unexpected that “get” us …every time. God’s will..God’s way..God’s time.
So true. The unexpected is a reality we don’t often account for. How much more we need to trust in Christ for salvation since we can go anytime
Thanks for this short evangelistic message and for reminding us believers our hope in Jesus Christ! I hope your visitation goes well and I pray the family of the deceased member is comforted.
Thank you for your prayers. I’m off to the morning pastoral hospital visitation. How is your day going so far?
Amen! Jesus offers blessed Good News to each of us. His sacrificial death for our sins allows us the one and only road to eternity. In faith, trust to accept Him as Lord and Savior.
A big amen to this: “ His sacrificial death for our sins allows us the one and only road to eternity. ”. Grateful for your GOspel saturated comment! Hope your week has been a blessing so far??
Week has been going well. God has blessed my mother to trust her transition to home care assistance, giving my brother a much-needed break.
This verse must have given comfort to so many for thousands of years
So thankful for there will be a day when death and pain are no more.
Amen. What a day that will be. I look forward to that more and more with the passing of time
I am writing concerning the dream I had last night about the Tribulation. It’s about Hebrews 3:31.
God canot break a promise.
Amen God cannot break a promise! I say again: Amen!
You are His good messager.
What a wonderful day that will be when all our tears will be wiped away. Thanks for sharing.
I long for that too sister! What a hope we have in Christ
Praise 👏 the Lord.
Oh when that glorious day come. No more sin. No pain or sadness or death. Just eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen I look forward to that day as I get older.
