It is such a tragedy to hear the news of the elementary shooting at Uvalde, Texas.
How anyone can shoot elementary school age kids is beyond my comprehension.
It is so sad and so infuriating.
I have been doing apologetics lessons for our midweek studies. Its amazing how people can deny the existence of evil; or they trivialize it.
But then news like this you see people’s response is inconsistent with their profess worldview and ideology.
Evil is real.
Evil acts like this requires a sufficient cause. Obviously weapons are necessary; but weapons themselves don’t do anything. So the sufficient cause is a human sinner going about causing these evil.
We can’t just talk about what’s necessary for evil; we need to be deal with the sufficient cause of evil: human sinners.
How we need the Gospel to be preached.
Amen “How we need the Gospel to be preached.”
Amen Tangie the Gospel is so needed
Very well said. Evil is real. The redeem grace of Jesus is real.
Shalom.
I saw this yesterday and I was horrified and heartsick. Evil is real and the Gospel needs preached, well said.
Amen the Gospel needs to be preached. I sometimes wonder how many shooting have been avoided when the Gospel is preached and the church minister to troubled teens. I do hope your time with your mom, Nathan and PQ is going well. Is the weather pretty fair or is it rainy, cold or humid?
The weather is NOT warm with varying times of rain, wind and/or clouds. I was so sad that we were out of internet range last night! I wanted to hear what questions were asked!!!! What does ministry look like for y’all today?! How are your homeschooling lessons?! I am so thankful for you and Nancy’s desire to truly educate your children in the way of the Lord and how to cope in the world. Praying for y’all!
God’s hedge of protection is slowly being pulled from America. The more we reject His laws, the more evil is upon her. Removing God from the family, the town square, the schools, the government can be tracked with God’s reduction in blessings over time.
After the Protestant Reformation, the countries that became protestant had blessings abundant. Like a high view of women, medical advancements, good education, advances in technology that helped us, even toilet paper and running water. Those countries that stayed predominantly catholic have just the opposite.
Our nation is heading back the way of enabling wickedness to abound, be the norm and the consequences is God’s hand being removed from us.
Those of us born again can see this, and we have peace and blessings upon ourselves but woe to the unrepentant.
My prayers are for the ones mourning, healing upon the injured, prayers for those who enabled this lost soul to murder and that many will become born again through this situation.
I join you with those prayers. Brother I’m glad you are a light on social media in these times of America and the West heading towards a “post-Christian” era. The Gospel is so desperately needed. Keep on sharing about Jesus and the Gospel!!!
Seems like Romans 1 form of national “handing over” is happening
Nailed it on both accounts!
Thanks. Was praying as I wrote this post. I’m praying for your day to be blessed and fulfilling God’s purposes as well
Those who don’t believe in evil have to do a lot of rationalization to cover up the evidence of it.
I agree. And during tragedies like these it becomes really odious and offensive to say evil don’t exist or to trivialize it. It’s also strange those who relativize morality or Make it subjective can express outrage at this time. I’m glad they are not consistent with their worldview. Let’s pray for Texas In these times
As my wife and I were driving yesterday, news of this tragedy found its way to her device. Shocking doesn’t adequately describe our feelings. Only the Gospel can offer society’s weakest links an escape from evil.
It recently occurred to me that there is a connection between school shootings and abortion. By permitting abortion we are teaching our children that there is a class of people whose lives mean nothing and who can be freely killed. The shooters are simply adopting this belief but applying it to a different group of people. Banning abortion would probably do more to combat school shooting than banning guns would.
Thanks for sharing that Clyde. The undercurrent for both evil is that lives are not valuable. A nation that normalize evil with the assumption that some lives are not valuable yields heavy consequences when others then apply such assumptions elsewhere. Let’s pray for this community effected. Thanks Clyde for your food for thought
The devil is still alive on planted Earth. Prayers for all .
He is alive and active. Let us pray indeed! Hope you are doing well
All true brother. But I might add, we have this epitome of evil bc we have allowed every wicked act culminating into it.
We champion the cause of lawlessness, celebrate perverted sexualities, and protested for the right to abort viable babies. Apostate churches abound. All this after scrubbing God out of our culture.
“The wages of sin is death” – we are suffering this grievous payday.
May God emboldened us to preach the truth.
You are right there’s so much lawlessness and spirit of lawlessness that contribute to this. Sometimes I think of how you are now a member of your church and what your travels to the church is like with all the news I hear of the state of NY being so crazy with violence done against those using public transportation. I am praying for your safe travels on Sunday
Thank you Pastor. There’s such senseless violence and grief everyday.
I picked up a book from my shelf, “Not Against Flesh and Blood” by one of my favorite teachers, Martyn Lloyd Jones. Very short book, but I may post a book review and relate it to the evil today.
I would love to read that post. I am also going to get that book! Also, I’ve been meaning to ask you, have you ever posted on the book you sent me?! That was really good!!!
Call me a senior, but I don’t remember which book I sent you! I often quote my favorite authors but I have hoped to do some book reviews (I love good books that honor God and draw us closer to Him!)
How are the “fun days” going? Sounds fishy to me….hopefully!
Ha! There’s a reason it’s called fishing and not catching! Nathan’s had a few, thankfully! I’ll email you about the book/booklet!
Fishing – catching, good point! 😀
Amen, Pastor Jim.
Thanks for this (sadly) timely post. Evil is growing. On the one hand, a troubled teenager should not be able to buy two assault rifles. I am for stricter gun controls, but I notice that many of those who are calling for stricter gun controls after this horrific mass-murder of nineteen schoolchildren in Texas are also passionately working to defend aborting pre-born babies. Around 1700 babies killed per day via abortion in the U.S.
That abortion Amount weekly is sooo sooo evil and sad. How are you holding up today?
RE: today
Thanks! I finally went through some mail and paperwork that I’d been putting off and then picked up some items that we comparison-shopped for yesterday.
How is your Wednesday going?
(Sorry if you get this twice. I sent the first reply but never got a pingback.
Well said, Slim. One of the worst school incidents was actually in 1927, the Bath school disaster in Michigan, and it involved explosives not guns. I tell people about it so we can gain some perspective, so we can understand that evil has always been with us, that the problem is not guns or video games or mental illness or whatever, but rather unchecked evil taking up residence in our hearts.
That does put it in perspective. What a horrible thing that people can think of such evil against kids! And to think of hurting a lot of kids…mighty wicked
Amen, I.B. I didn’t read your comment before adding my own, but I had the same response you did.
Absolutely! I remember years ago after the bombing in Oklahoma City, our local paper did a “man on the street” piece, interviewing people about whether gun control laws should be changed in light of the recent tragedy. Only one of the people interviewed pointed out that guns weren’t used in that attack. We need to get away from the knee-jerk responses to these events and start with the premise that people are sinful. It doesn’t matter whether the weapon is a gun, a knife, or fertilizer, the evil is in the human heart.
Amen to this with the root cause of the problem. Funny how a political party that talks about root causes never ask about that when it comes to this issue. Good point that you made with that story of the news paper
This shooting was horrible and happened after the church shooting in California and the shooting in Buffalo New York. Mass shootings have just become so common on the news since the 1999 Columbine Shootings. Until the Lord Jesus returns, evil shootings like this will continue as they have been. It is sad and we really can’t do anything about it. How do we prevent evil from happening?
Last Saturday I talked to someone who had family affected from the SoCal shooting. Don’t want to say too much online since the couple wanted privacy. Pray for the family and nonbelievers with the tragedy.
I’m glad you spoke to someone from the Laguna Hills Congregation. I just wrote a post today also on the recent mass shootings. I sadly know there will be more mass shootings this year and the next year, etc.
It is very evil to deny there’s evil
