I made a meme:
I think it captures the point that legalism and license to sin are both enslaving and how license to sin is a false freedom.
Legalism and license to sin often are seen as opposites. In some sense they are; yet actually when we think more deeply they have something in common: Both are sinful and not what God wants for us.
Both legalism and license to sin doesn’t save us. We cannot fulfill the law, hence legalism is weak. God is Holy and will not tolerate sin, hence license to sin is wicked.
How then can we be saved? Trusting in Jesus as Savior who died for sinners who trust in Him.
Once we are saved though we no longer are slaves to sin: “For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love” (Galatians 5:13). But being Christ centered save us from legalism (earning our righteousness by our own attempt to obey the Law) since Christ credit His righteousness to us. Rather knowing Christ’s sacrifice to save us by grace we are motivated to obey Him! So that obedience then free us from license to sin.
This is Good News! Have you trusted in Christ today?
Great insight brother: ” Both are sinful and not what God wants for us.”
Shalom!

Great meme – going on the next Roundup!
Nice!!!! Thanks I’m honored!!
It looks like there is a third cage around that middle one. Good point that obedience frees us from the license to sin.
Wow I didn’t notice the third cage but now that you said it I see it. Have a blessed Memorial Day Monday today.
Thanks for sharing this meme with us, Pastor Jim. It is very creative and true. Both, legalism and license to sin are the results of bondage.
I hope you are having a great Memorial Day!
Amen and I’m glad that I wrote and that meme makes sense. Sometimes late night posts I’m not sure if I’m tired and makes sense especially if it’s a meme. I am having a reflective Memorial Day. I hope you are doing well yourself Chris?
It is a good day for reflection for sure. Your meme is very good so the late night didn’t have any negative effects.
I am well, thanks pastor Jim. My son has the omnicron covid and is just about done with it. I’m thankful that none of the rest of us caught it.

Excellent meme! I went from religious legalism with no Gospel (RC-ism) to legalism mixed with Gospel (IFB-ism) to my “license to sin” prodigal “season.” As saved believers, we should be following the Lord out of gratefulness and joy, not out of legalistic guilt (like in the IFB).
Grateful for God’s grace in your life Tom. May others online read and resonate with your testimony and may God use that to draw Catholics and others to Christ. Any plans for Memorial Day??
Thanks, Jimmy. Monday’s “cut the front lawn day” so I did that but the remainder of the day has been low-key and restful. Just finished a hot dog dinner on the patio.
Did you have any special plans for today?
Great illustration! J.
Thanks J, I hope you are having a meaningful Memorial Day today J
A big AMEN to this. “Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbids” Only Christ can free is from the bondage of sin
Both exalt man and not Christ. Praise God for our true freedom that is found by grace through faith in Christ alone. Hope you’re having a nice Memorial Day!
Amen to this: “Praise God for our true freedom that is found by grace through faith in Christ alone.” A big amen! How did your Memorial Day go sister?
It was a beautiful day with family and friends. How was your Memorial Day?!

This picture drives the point home. Romans 6 written all over it
Excellent post and totally relatable! Thank you for being “one of the good ones”. I’ve met several “Christians” on WordPress who are quite mean.
Glad you are on here on WordPress sister! Thanks also for reading this post!
The thanks goes to YOU! 🤗
