Over at Twitter there was a debate that spread out for over a week. Sometimes I think nonbelievers are like pigs running off the cliff with the irrationality, logical fallacies and self-defeating arguments.
I’ll spare you the blow by blow details. But I want to present a “before” and “after.”
How it began (his comment is circled in red:
How he “ended” himself:
He ended up saying he’s a Deistic Atheist.
Deist: Someone who believes God created but is not involved providentially.
Atheist: Someone who says there’s no God.
That’s a contradiction.
Funny with how he starts out thinking there’s a problem with the Bible. He think there’s no need to go deeper anymore with the Bible he knows it all. Then it turns out his position he wants to argue for is at its very core is a contradiction.
Deistic Atheist? Yup, he is a walking contradiction. He states he was born a Catholic and studied a “handful.” Hmm. Handful means “a smattering.” That would accurately describe Catholics in general. Or did he intend the opposite e.g. “extensively,” and just get his adjectives mixed up? I do give him credit for citing salvation by faith in Christ alone and salvation by faith (in sacraments) and works as two contradictory understandings of Scripture. The genuine Gospel is revealed only by the Holy Spirit.
I think the guy is also a handful in another way! He’s a handful and a hot mess! He said in another tweet he has 20 years experience with the Bible and he’s 21 years old🤥. I think you probably have ran into former Apostates over the years who invoke their authority based upon having years in Catholic schools and catechism? It’s astounding how ignorant they are of the Bible and the Gospel and we know why don’t we? They are ignorant of the Bible and the Gospel from the beginning…
RE: 20 years experience with the Bible and he’s 21 years old
What an amazingly intelligent toddler he must have been!
Catholics in general are woefully ignorant of the Bible. I attended Catholic school for 12 and we never read the Bible in class, it was always the RC catechism with maybe snippets of the Bible. The priests and nuns never encouraged us to get a Bible. The Bible was always subordinated to the magisterium and sacred traditions.
Ha ha! Lectures about the bible from a walking contradiction. Deistic Atheist! That is a good one.
Shalom!
Ugh, Twitter really is a dumpster fire. Seriously, though, we live in a world where people can call themselves whatever they want with the expectation that they will never be questioned.
Also. How does “studying a handful” make one knowledgeable enough to have an informed opinion? In all honesty, Satan must think the internet is one of his crowning achievements.
I have no need to reply, James has said it all here!
The guy’s know-it-all at the age of 21 (and becoming a “Deistic atheist just a year ago) makes him a handful in different ways! Sometimes I think Twitter is too much of a dumpster fire, and it is, but then I think “man if people don’t have social media, think about how much silly ideas they never get embarassed as contradictory and wrong” not that many of these folks change right away, we can only plant seeds and there comes a time to not cast pearls to swine. You are right about Satan’s crowning achievement is the internet with what’s being advocated online; so crazy!
Planting seeds is good, and I don’t deny that God can soften even the hardest hearts. I just don’t have the patience for people like that anymore.
Keep it up, though, you are making a difference I’m sure.
Mmm… not sure that the internet is Satan’s achievement so much as he ‘mucks’ things up as usual. Stronger words are available for ‘mucks’ of course.
He has been mucking things up since the beginning, the liar and murderer.
Good observations here, I say so bc I believe that devilish accusations against the Bible will soon move from off center arguments to main stream thinking.
It will gain cultural momentum. The dark tenets already rooted against God’s word in gender, sexuality, abortion, marriage will come to fruition to promote blaspheming God and His precious word.
Good work dear Pastor in defending His unchanging truth.
The positions where people are attacking from the Bible is getting crazier and crazier. The guy even say it’s his identity as a deistic atheist; the idea you can’t attack someone’s beliefs is so post modern and yet contradictions abound when they feel they are right to attack Christians for what they believe. Do you feel the world is always crazy but everything post-2020 is a hyper parade of irrationality and even the celebration of it????
Yes, Pastor, I agree. Today I saw another milestone in depraved culture: major companies are now offering $4000 for their employees to have abortions.. https://youtu.be/BgSqVNnH0R8
God have mercy. There truly is no end to how the depraved mind works.
The problem is the depraved mind doesn’t work. There is a ‘spammer’ in the works!
Satan has been at it for years, but even the criminally insane like Satan can’t get away with forever. A lot of people, the silent majority, think the whole thing ludicrous. All it takes is some good men and women to stand up to and ridicule the nonsense.
Or perhaps even a child to state the blindingly obvious. Like the Emperor’s New Clothes story.
The earth is on the boil and the scum is coming to the surface to be skimmed off from the pot into the fire by the angels of God.
I can’t resist you are so right that Deistic Atheist is a contradiction. Either you’re a deist or an atheist. You could be a deist agnostic, but as James said, “we live in a world where people can call themselves whatever they want…” even if it is illogical and irreconcilable. What a deceived time we live in. Satan doesn’t even need to hide his agenda, it’s out in full force and the masses are eating it up.
You are right people want to be whatever they want; the guy also with super irony also said I’m attacking what he identify as; but it’s ok to attack what Christians identify as? He also said he’s a scientist and then later it turns out he’s a 21 year old college student. I called him out on it 🤥. When I saw his tweet that he doesn’t need to study the Bible anymore since his first 20 years of life gave him all the insights I thought about how our dear Mandy is working on her graduate degree having many degrees already. It makes his hubris worse! How are classes?
His hubris is typical of a person regardless of age who does not have enough to do!!!! Have you posted tweets with this guy before?! I’ll be honest, in this post modern society degrees are about worthless. Colleges and universities have truly become diploma mills. Our standards are nonexistent (speaking of standards have you seen the latest news/standard coming out of the army?). I have told numerous young men who are unsure about college to go to a tech school. Everyone needs a plumber, electrician, hvac etc. This young man thinks he’s so enlightened but he’s a blind fool (I say that with NO arrogance), may God intervene in his life.
Good point. Calling oneself a “deistic atheist” is contradictory. He might as well call himself a “non-atheist atheist” to bring the contradiction out in the open.
Indeed you are right with his self-identitification he is in essence a nonatheist atheist, or a theistic non-theist. Walking contradiction! We live in a trans everything world, don’t we, where people celebrate the irrational and yet have the audacity to then turn around and say they reject the Bible for being irrational?
I’ve been involved in many of these back and forths, pastor Jim. One thing I’ve learned in the conversations I’ve been involved in and the ones I’ve read that it is very rare for anyone to change a position they have during the “discussion.”
We can plant the seed as you have here and hope that it receives the right kind of water.
God bless you and keep on sowing those seeds and thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the encouragement Chris you are right with your assessment; I only interacted with this guy after two days on my twitter and only when he started attacking other Christians; for me if people attack me I’m fine, I don’t need the last say; but when they go after other Christians with an air of superiority and demeaning to other Christians while they think they are so smart, something irks me to go all out Presup and press the antithesis. God bless you Chris, I know you have these crazy troll discussions before too!
You’re welcome, Pastor Jim, and thank you for your kind words. I don’t hang out as much in online places where Christians are constantly attacked (particularly evolution/creation sites) as much as I used to or even places like Imonk (which doesn’t exist anymore as far as I’m aware) where I learned a lot about faulty theology. But, there are still the occasional times I feel the need to put my two cents in as well.
May God bless you as well…
Delusion is rampant.
Indeed Bonnie the delusion is rampant. He only backed away with talking about his views after Christians agreed when I pointed out he’s a contradiction and his friends stopped helping him with being a contradiction. These are dark times isn’t it?
Truth, Pastor. We pray and we fight and the ungodly come up from hell with more corruption.:*(
[…] A Walking Contradiction who want to attack the Bible […]
If he (it was he, wasn’t it?) wants to self-identify as a deistic atheist, then I guess we have no choice but to call him a deistic atheist. Aren’t we all free to create our own labels, genders, races, religions, loyalties, and other aspects of our identities? J.
So… he knows it ALL?! I saw a sign the other day that said, “Why is it that people who think they know it all don’t know when to shut up?” 😉
Wow that’s a good quote lol. Perfect for this post! Super right to have this question here lol!
😉
“Those of you who think you know everything are annoying to those of us that do.”

Some years ago, a caller to the CARM show said he was a “Christian atheist.” That is, he was an atheist but liked some of the things Jesus said. (Monumental facepalm.) I keep banging on this drum, but definitions matter. Misotheists like to say that most people in prisons are “Christians.” We don’t know if that’s true, but assuming it is, that’s cultural Christianity. Like the Norwegian mass murderer was a “Christian atheist”, where “Christian” means something like, “Living in a country that is not Moslem, Hindu, Buddhist…”
Yes definitions matter and all those examples you gave are examples of that. The mass shooter wasn’t a Christian once you hear his fantasy worldview! Grateful you are on our side by God’s grace 🙂✝️
Godson is a “Deistic Atheist”? Yoicks! He talks about ‘dipper digging’ whatever that is. I call him a dipstick as in ‘A person regarded as foolish or contemptible.’
Satan was a son of God. I call Satan Loopy Lucy now. Quite mad he is. Dipstick would do as well though.
I like the pigs image. They say pigs might fly, but all they do is plummet. This is the problem when they tell ‘porky pies’ as in Cockney rhyming slang.
Thanks for reading this and sharing your thoughts here as a comment!!
They do not see the contradiction in which they live because they keep blazing what they think is uncharted ground, thus no rules. Yet, they are really travelling down the same road as the masses while redefining the language so that it seems unique for them. I have encountered so many like that. And knowing me, I probably said the wrong thing.
Mark there are so many of people like this guy, and it seems over the years in campus evangelism there’s more and more illogical belief systems and people celebrating it too…so so crazy isn’t it?
Absolutely crazy. They seem all too eager to grasp the myth when the truth is in plain sight.
